If you are just using your SCSI HA to run your CD-ROM, SCSI-2 or 16 bit should not make a difference, the CD-ROM is going to be the bottleneck. Even the molasses-slow SCSI HA on my PAS 16 will xfer much faster than my Toshiba 3301 CD-ROM… -Bill
You can use a 1/8" stero cable and run it from the headphone jack of the CD into to Audio in on the back of the sound card…4 bucks from Radio Shack… -Bill

If I recall from the 'fun' times I had getting a mismatched controller and CD-ROM going, the CD-ROM LED *always* flashed on POST, even without MSCDEX, even when the controller couldn't see the drive. Hopefully you've got hardware problems- have you tried swapping drive, and controller??? -Bill

I'm quite happy with my 3301, it tests out at 295 ms access rate on my system, and runs multimedia quite well. $400 sounds like a good price. I have heard that the 3401 is due out in February. -Bill
