#25692 BlackBelt Fiasco Message #25790
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile January 20, 1993 5:52 AM
Well, THAT hasn't changed! Bus drivers barely care if you've got the right of way… when they want to pull away from a stop, god forbid if you're driving on the left lane next to the bus! What's always nice is cutting off a bus; like a giant, they need…

I can vouch for Peter on this one: NYC Trains are clean as a whistle. Some stations are also looking great. I doubt it'll ever become standard, but it sure is an improvement! Here's another thing: the buses follow their schedule! Mig
#25581 DPaint 4.1 problem Message #25680
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Audiophile January 16, 1993 7:21 AM
This is going to sound strange, but is your SHIFT key sticking? Back when I was a regular DPaint user, sometimes my SHIFT or CONTROL key would stick and it would change certain tool's functions. Just a thought… Miguel

#Babylon 5 and E! Message #48391

Folks: Anyone get the E! network? It's a cable channel that deals with TV/Film/Video happenings. Alot of fluff, although the new Howard Stern Interview show is real funny. Anyway, this past week they had a Behind The Scenes look at "Babylon 5" They interviewed Ron Thorton and he gave a…

Thanks for the quick reply. The serial # is MC10087. I'd like to upgrade the board no matter what, I'm sure it won't be too much and I always prefer the latest and the greatest (I bet CBM loves hearing that!) Thanks again! Miguel
Old MegaChip? Message #47696
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Vendor Forum · Avant-Garde November 29, 1992 1:26 AM
Hello! I just acquired a DKB MegaChip 2000. I bought it used in perfect, untouched, good as new shape. However, the board is probably a few years old. It's copy righted 1990, and it's Rev. C. IS this the latest? If not, what would it cost to upgrade? If it's…
#78525 #SCSI/SyQuest Hell Message #78621
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Forum Business/Help November 21, 1992 1:57 AM
As a tech for an all-mac DTP firm, I can only wearily agree with you that the Mac's SCSI is not the best. Despite what the official Apple line is, their SCSI is NOT standard SCSI. So many devices act very flakey on a mac, and function just fine on…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware November 2, 1992 5:56 AM
I just ordered 7 more MO's for my company, and there's been a bit of a lag since I placed the order. I hear it's because MASS is upgrading their drives. In what way, I don't know. Cross your fingers. Anyway, I read the review as well and might try…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware November 2, 1992 5:43 AM
I've seen the ad, but they are definitely non-standard. I wouldn't trust any claims of compatability unless some mag runs some tests. Mig
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware November 2, 1992 5:42 AM
HD Toolbox will query the SCSI device you are working on and try to deduce it's parameters. This is what I mean. Since 128MO's are still new, CBM did not include a parameter setting for it within HD Toolbox. Therefore, you have to get the settings from the drive itself.…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware October 29, 1992 12:31 AM
All this talk about 128 MB Syquests fails to address that MO are very stable as opposed to Syquests which I have had go bad on me every now and then. Also, let's assume you pay 3x more for an optical (at this point in time) the media is close…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware October 29, 1992 12:23 AM
Tom: About $1500 for the MASS drive. Yep, you just plug it in, load it's specs through the HD Toolbox, low-level format and then standard format. Nothing simpler! Miguel
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware October 20, 1992 1:15 AM
I don't know if this really answers your question but there's no need to buy the DMI Optical Drive. I have a Mass Microsystems 128 MO Drive and am very happy with it. Any good Mac magazine has various adds on 128 meg MO drives. Of course, they won't have…
#22322 #AMI anims to MAC Message #22365
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Animation October 5, 1992 10:47 AM
a rough way of doing it would be to save your anim as individual IFF frames, bring them over to the Mac side and then read them into Photoshop (they have an IFF plug-in somewhere) and save them as whatever (PICT I suppose). THen use a quicktime friendly program that…

THanks for the info. Yes the SPD8 allows bulk dumps… that was my intention ; to save the entire set of sounds at a time. I guess ROLAND might have created a driver for this device already but maybe it's in ATARI ST or MAC format…. mayeb there is a…

Hello I'm new to the MIDI world and though I think I have grasped most of the basics for the life of me I can't figure one thing out: I have a Roland SPD8, a drum pad with 112 built in sounds. It of course has MIDI capabalities. The question…

THanks for the info. I get a little daunted looking at all those mod files and wondering whether they're all worthless. Your criteria on what makes a good MOD echoes mine to a T. Now I feel a little better getting some of those mods. MC

It's considerate of you to post such an informative message. Maybe next time you or someone in your company could keep us users informed on other important developments as they progress (ala the sorry but frustrating demise of the Tech Journal). Thanks, M C
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Vendor Forum · NewTek April 15, 1992 11:05 PM
Anyone know how one can get through to Newtek and purchase the Revolution video on Laserdisc? It's available (at least their ads say so) and I'd really prefer that to inferior videotape, provided that it isn't too expensive. I called their 1-800 number a few times but never get called…

Just out of curiousity, is Nic Wilson on CIS? I have a question for him regarding Sysinfo. It tells me, whenever I first execute it, that it has to adjust the EXEC because it is reflecting improper information (I'm paraphrasing, of course). I'd like to know if there is any…

Using the first four function keys you can switch between pairs of octaves. This is for the amiga keyboard. A real keyboard I don't have a clue but I would take a guess that it should be automatic once you turn MIDI on within MED and assign a channel. MC
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 18, 1992 5:29 PM
Just pop over to the Apple Developers forum here at CIS and you can d/l it no problem. Regardless of the name, the forum seems to be open to one and all. Wild Magic has yet to crash on a program that will accept QT movies.

I swear on the Bible that if I had the resources (a good 4 million dollars) I would hire Steve Bennett, Leo Schwab, Jay Miner, and all the others to come on and build, build, build!! Go nuts! Create the absolute best! I could only dream of the results of…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 13, 1992 8:54 PM
Exactly my point. CBM seems too slow in implementing what is necessary to keep the machine going. Granted their fiscal situation is nowhere near Apple's, but it still is frustrating to see this QT happen and us Amigazoids not have anything to best (since it can be done SO easily!).
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 13, 1992 8:51 PM
The most familiar demo is one where you would send a letter to your folks on your recent trip to Africa. You would talk about how much fun you had and would include a little video clip showing some of the sights and sounds. Printing of frames is not supported.…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 13, 1992 8:49 PM
Whoops! again! MS Word 4.0 can also import QT movies! By using a kludge called Wild Magic practically any application that supports the clipboard can also hold a QT movie. Wild Magic is what has made QT accessible to all Mac users. I think what you've gotten confused is that…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 13, 1992 8:42 PM
It can be done… Put simply: There is an extension called Wild Magic developed by the people over at Apple France that will plug into the Clipboard functions of a Color mac and allow it (The clipboard) to support and hold a QT movie clip. I've pasted several movies into…
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 11, 1992 6:48 PM
Of course I understand that QT has added '100s functions to the MAC OS'. That's NOT my point. My point is simply this: On a mac, open ANY file within ANY program (okay, make that 90% of the programs out there) and you can PASTE a QT movie into the…

From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Arts Forum · Videophile February 10, 1992 3:37 AM
I know I'm coming into this conversation late, but I think all the responses to the original question have missed a very crucial point. To wit: QT on the mac is now *UNIVERSAL*. Simply pop in the QT extension into your Mac and you can play any qt movie practically…

If I may butt in here. I have been a regular customer at Abel supply. They go now by the name Computer Shoppers Networ, but they're so well known as Abel, so they still answer to it. Give them a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed. They've been around…

From: Miguel Chavez Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware January 20, 1992 12:04 AM
I'm pretty sure that when it comes to syquests and hard drives, drivers are not an issue. I say this because I've yet to hear of a specific syquest driver for the Amiga and because I have an 80 meg Apple HD in my Amiga. No problem whatsoever. I think…

re: BBS/CBM/Ham-E Has anyone else besides me noticed that in the latest INFO they talk about CBM's plan to have a CDTV unit out soon that will support 400,000 colors or somesuch? Is this coincidence or WHAT??? Very anxious… Miguel C.
#46278 Syquest Drives Message #46427

MacUser or MacWorld did a comparison of various 88mb removable cartridge drives a few issues back and the ETC 88mb drive came out ahead in almost all categories in terms of price/performance, durability, speed, etc. They seem to be the way to go. The syquest engines are all the same,…

Ben, I'm hoping this is all just a simple misunderstanding, but I was recently at an Amiga-only store called Amigination here in NYC. I went in asking about the firecracker board. Bless them, the guys there are very helpful and I really appreciated their attention to my needs. Anyway, near…

#32775 #Scanners Supported? Message #32814
From: Miguel Chavez Amiga Vendor Forum · ASDG January 3, 1992 8:58 AM
Most scanners will let you scan in anything except transperencies. However, in the world of publishing and others, transperencies are sometimes made of color pictures (think of it as a large slide). Scanners that can scan these are extremely useful. MC

The more I think of it, the more I feel that the NYU folks here are using something they created themselves. The reason? Their show is almost always crashing on them. Maybe only 1 or 2 people get to actually navigate around the av script with their touchtone pads before…

I wonder if that phonelink thingy is what the folks here at New York University are using when they run their interactive cable-tv show. It's some sort of AV script, all weirdly done, and you can call and by pressing certain keys you can control the presentation. For those of…
