Serge, Point well taken. No question you are the most prolific IPAS author and you, along with every other IPAS programmer on the planet, deserve an enormous amount of credit for breaking new CG ground and advancing our medium. In "3D Studio IPAS Plug-in Reference Volume 2" (scheduled for publication…
>> Hello ! I want to upload a lot of files in IPAS section of AUTODESK forum, I have already uploaded one but without seeing it in the forum. Is there somebody to tall with (a moderator or else) for this forum ? Please let me know ! In a…
>> Dear Terry, I went through the tutorials that came with 3DS several times. I bought "Inside 3D Studio", "3D Studio Applied", "3D Studio Special Effects", "3D Studio IPAS Plug-in Reference", and "3D Studio Tips and Tricks" books, and read them. I live in Staten Island, New York. I think…
>> I wish that a nice gentleman who is experienced with 3D Studio teach me how to use the program very much. Jeffrey.
>> Terry, In your early opinion would it be better to think about a Dual Pentium upgrade or the GLINT hardware graphics card. If the software is really fast then maybe the Dual processor would be better a route because of the increased multi-tasking for Dual-aware programs. What are your…
>> Hi Terry, Thanks again. This forum has been invaluable to me. I haven't experienced any other place where busy professional people take time to share thier knowledge and offer guidance to struggling beginers like myself. It's very refreshing. The software is cool but the people who are associated with…
>> Dear Terry, I don't have the money to buy Civil Detailor and Detailor programs. Jeffrey.
>> Hi Terry, Thanks for the helpful input. I guess I must reveal the true saturation of my greeness. I looked through all of my reference material and have a very rookie question. How many colors are in 8, 24, etc. bit "mode" ? Thanks. mark
>> Dear Terry, The files for AutoCAD are *.EXP and *.MNU files and the files for 3D Studio are *.PXP files. I tried to compile the menus but I got an error message saying "ACADR12.LSP not found". AutoCAD R13 has ACADR13.LSP file. I tried the *.PXP files in 3D Studio…
>> Dear Terry, I will try installing the Civil Detailor program and telling it that I have AutoCAD R12 but what if the AutoLISP programs are not compatible with AutoCAD R13? Jeffrey.
Epson Stylus

>> I've read that the Epson Color Stylus isn't actually able to produce 720 DPI. What resolution can it actually do?
I hadn't realized, before Siggraph, that you were working with Aleksey and his group. They're doing some very interesting work. I'll have to check out the docs for Refraction mapping. Its a lot of work doing a good manual. Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates
Adobe Premiere will read MOV files and can output TGA, TIFFs, etc. For less expensive options try GO GRAPHSUPPORT or the file finder GRAPHFF. Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates
Have you checked the axis of the revsurf for degenerate faces? These are faces that run from pole to pole and have only 2 vertices. This often occurs along with vertices that don't _quite_ meet at the poles. That is a common problem with revsurfs and can really screw up…
Mark, I would recommend that you run the wireframe/3Deditor in 1024×768 8-bit mode. Set your rendering resolution to 640×480 24-bit, and leave the materials editor at 320×200. For rendering it is much more important to have a fast full color image than a slower or lower color image. Terry Gilbert…
>> Thanks, I recieved LenzFx a few days ago and it's great. The upgrade should be cool too, but how were those pictures made if the upgrade isn't available yet (I hear it will come Sept 15th)? – Neil 102226,3566
SigGraph '95

Ernie, As near as I can tell their lineup hasn't changed. The overall sound was very close to both "Un-led-Ed" and to "5,000,000." They played in our city about 4 years ago and I didn't find out until the day after! This was the first time I had seen them…
Yes, you are right. I remember that now. I suspect there are a lot of other things that I've forgotten about Siggraph, too. Maybe I should stick to drinking tea?………nah! Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates

Aleksey, Yes, there will be an IPAS Reference II. Of course the name will have to change and maybe there will have to be two volumes, one ofr MAX and one for r4+. Terry Gilbert Forcade & Associates
>> Hello, I'd like to order the book, too. Is it possible to order it from germany and how long does it take to deliver it? My local bookstores told me that it takes approximataly 6 weeks to get it and I don't like waiting… To order it, can someone…
Gary, How could you stand it? Knowing what you had planned for so long and listening to us bitch about things that you knew would be fixed or non-issues in 3DS-MAX? Such control. I'm really impressed, but not nearly as impressed as I was by the result. MAX = WOW!…
Dennis, You may not want to hear this, but we recently upgraded from 486/66 machines with 4MB-36pin simms to P100 mobos that take 72pin simms. We were able to us our existing ram by stacking it onto simm-towers. This gave us 2 16MB-72pin simm-towers that could be mixed with normal…
>> To anyone who uses LenzFX Lumina. I'm thinking of buying it, but every example I see shows the glints off of the flare as six sided objects, as opposed to circles. Is this just an option, or can you not show circular glints? Also, I've seen some examples of…
>> While we're on the subject, can you tell me if this book is srictly a "buyers guide" or if it has tips on using popular IPAS routines? If the latter is true, could you give me some insight on how in-depth it is? Thanks Mitch Gates
>> I'd like to order the book. Some info, please. Thanx BP

>> Is it true NT uses 20 megs of ram by itself alone? I have four 4 megs simms know and am trying to save up for four 8's. Does this mean when I get 3DS MAX and 32 megs that I'll only have 12 megs leftover for MAX? That…
I was at the 3DSMAX press conference that Jonas mentioned. They were showing MAX on a dual pentium machine without hardware acceleration. It was very fast. Interactive screen updates in shaded perspective views with no noticable lag. The dancing chocolate kiss with the purple haze soundtrack playing did not miss…

There is DeBabelizer and DeBabelizer Lite from Equilibrium. We have used the regular version (Mac) and it is a very good translation program. We have never found a listed file type that it could not handle (some translators say they translate a format but only work with a subset of…

Brian, Due to all the recent confusion about the version of Diamond Stealth 64 cards, I did come checking on the Diamond forum (CIS:GRAPHB). I found this synopsis of card versions. These people are seriously into variations on a theme. I don't envy Vibrant's task in keeping up with all…
>> The bands of material differences are very disinct. The object is a square column with radiused corners and a hole punched in the side. The bands start and stop crisply at mesh lines. Probably a useful effect for some situations, but not what I need. -Scott
>> I have the stealth with the S3 968 chipset.2 meg VRAM.I believe this is a new card .I heard this card worked with 3DS until they made some update.Vibrant and Stealth tech were no help. I had to select VESA compatible to get it to work at all under…
