#134071 PAL on NTSC machine? Message #134217
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Forum Business/Help February 27, 1994 8:32 PM
Thanks for you advice Michael & Shraddhan. A further question; any suggestions on an inexpensive dual voltage monitor for NTSC here and 220V & PAL there?
#PAL on NTSC machine? Message #133908
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Forum Business/Help February 26, 1994 4:11 PM
Does anyone know what problems there are in running US (NTSC) programs on an A1200 PAL machine? I have to go to the Middle East and would like to take a 1200 with me. I could use an NTSC 1200 with Bigfoot to correct the voltage, but I want to…
Tax Software Message #132029
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Personal Apps February 13, 1994 8:41 PM
Bill, I think any difference of opinions is because I use Pha$ar to do my accounting. Because I have all the categories set up in that program it is quite easy to enter them in Pha$arTax – which as you know, can look in Pha$ar for the various categories and…
#131819 CAD Programs Message #131825
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Business Apps February 12, 1994 4:36 PM
I should have added that I would guess that it would take one tenth the time to learn UltraDesign than one of the more traditional CAD programs. The package includes a several neat file conversions and a most convenient way of printing the output. This has reminded me to give…
ZIP Message #131821
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Communications February 12, 1994 4:13 PM
I'm having trouble using ZIP on an A4000. I got the v5.0 UNZIP.LHA from which I got UNZIP. Using this to try an explode a text file from a PC forum I get "program failed error 8000000B". I just used UNZIP filename. ZIP. Any ideas what is wrong?
#131790 #CAD Programs Message #131819
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Business Apps February 12, 1994 4:08 PM
UltraDesign was written by Scott Halbert for some artistic, non tech friends, to design things like jewelry. It is not like any other CAD program and is much easier to use, intuitive for an AMiga user. It worked fine on my A2500, but on an A4000 any change in pen…
#CAD Programs Message #131771
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Business Apps February 12, 1994 10:30 AM
I started with X-CAD in the early days when it was published by Taurus. It had one of the worst manuals I have ever seen. I understand that it is better now that it is published by another company, but once bitten.. After that, I used UltraDesign, which was my…
#130556 Tax Software Message #130743
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Personal Apps February 6, 1994 8:25 PM
Bill, the tax program (called PHA$ARTAX) comes with the PHA$AR package. This gives all the common tax forms, but more to the point, if you have been using PHA$AR to do your accounting, the right numbers get entered automatically. Probably the best route is to order it from Psygnosis at…
#130379 PC emulator Message #130382
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX February 4, 1994 7:57 PM
Thanks for the info. I have ordered CrossDOS with PCDOS this afternoon but will try PC-Task as well.

I have found that PHA$AR is pretty good. The current version is 4.09 I think, and it is marketed by Psygnosis. The new tax version will be available in about 3 weeks.
#PC emulator Message #130323
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Bridgeboard/AMAX February 4, 1994 8:09 AM
Anyone know where I can find CROSS PC or similar emulator, to run a simple MSDOS program? I believe that it was written by the same guy that wrote DOS2DOS. I'm quite happy to buy one.
BaudBandit2.1 Message #129234
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Communications January 24, 1994 2:09 PM
I'm having trouble with Baud Bandit ever since changing from a 2400 baud modem to a USRobotics Sportster 14.4 fax modem. The upload icons for both text and binary do not seem to work any more. Anyone out there familiar with Baud Bandit 2.1? I'm using an AMiga 4000-040 with…

Thanks for your note Eric. I am able to change to 8N1 on the fly, but what you wrote helps to explain the situation. What difference does full/half duplex make, apart from the echo on the screen? I'm looking for some default that I've changed that now messes things up.?

Mike, Thanks for your message. Actually, Baud Bandit logs on and takes me to the Amiga Users Forum automatically. It uses "script pairs" and can be set up to do almost anything. Hence my reluctance to change. I know XModem is v. dated (slow), I just mentioned this because I…
Color Printer Message #123582
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Amiga Hardware December 1, 1993 3:08 PM
Thank you for all your advice on color printers Wolf. I downloaded your file CANV2.DMS (which for other readers of this note, contains a full disk of printer drivers for most of the Canon printers, including an instal program and "Canon Studeo" for printing directly from the file) and found…

Something odd is happening. When I uploaded that last message my term program reported "File size 1247 & Bytes Xfer'ed 1280" (Completed 102%(!)) Further, when I tried to edit it, I was not able to replace a word but got a message "? Unexpected character after end of command." Mean…

Thanks for your comments Mike. I used to use 8N1 before all these problems started, and was advised by Compuserve to change to 7E1. I just tried changing back to 8N1 and even after ignoring the garbage and logging on, I still got garbage. (Well not quite, the words were…

Hi Michael. I think I may be doing something dumb, or, I may have a problem with old software/new modem. Anyway, I would appreciate some help. I have been using an Avatex 2400 (& am now back with it) but bought a USRobotics Sportster 14.4. Straight out of the box…

printer driver Message #122222
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · New Amiga Users November 19, 1993 3:03 PM
I have been looking for a driver for the Canon BJC600 and Wolf Faust posted a message saying there was one on the "CanonDisk2". Looking in the library, I downloaded "CanV2.DMS" (657k !) and also DMS152.LHA. I have never used .DMS and so-help-me cannot get Wolf's program unpacked. Would you…

Several people have asked about color printer comparisons. The Dec93 issue of Byte has two articles worth reading. One thing I learnt was that only the HP1200 and above have pigmented inks, that are better than the dyes used in most of the cheaper ink jet inks. Also, Epson is…

Anyone know if there is an update to "Baud Bandit" so that it can run under WB3.x without losing the RH & bottom of the screen when using "Mode Promotion" to stop flicker? I understand Progressive Peripherals, who sell it, have had a fire.

I'm looking for an update on the Canon BJC600 Wolf Faust wrote that he was writing a driver for it, but I don't know where to get it. He also said there was no banding problem because of "shinglind" but I don't know what that means. MicroCenter tells me there…

Bill: Thanks for your comments about the 17" monitors. According to IDEK, their model MF5017 comes with either a short or long persistence phosphor. I spend a little time making videos and find the flicker is a pain. How long is "long" persistence? Hasn't anyone seen the two that can…

Any better buys than the SupraFax v.32 (includes V42 compression) at about $240? What is in the software package for the extra $60?
Flicker Flustered Message #111981
From: Adrian Ashfield Amiga User Forum · Forum Business/Help August 30, 1993 8:43 PM
You will find that anything that reduces contrast will help. Way back, when I used an A1000, I used to use a piece of smoke colored Lucite over the screen. Dark glasses also work (but not as well). So, you could try the above while you are waiting to upgrade
.DXF file conversion Message #111440

Help! I need to convert a number of .DXF files (release 11 AutoCAD) to some pretty pictures for a video. I have Caligari 24 (which does not convert 3D .DXF files although it claims to) and Imagine 1. I have an A4000/040 with 12Meg. The 3D files are quite big;…

I'm having trouble with a GVP G-Lock. With an A4000 using a Canon A1 camcorder live, the signal distorts near the top of the screen. It first slopes left and then is unstable and slides right nearer the top. When playing back from a S-VHS source the top is OK…

#99863 #A letter to Byte Message #99947
Paul, I understand that Byte would be more than happy to have free lance articles. The reason we don't see more about the Amiga is that there is no champion on their staff & they simply don't know that much about the machine.

Paul, I understand that Byte would publish freelance stuff. I believe that the main reason we don;t see more about the Amiga is because they don't have a champion on staff and few bother to write articles on spec.

A letter to Byte Message #99720
There seems to have been enough faults to go round in the Byte review of the "new Amigas". I, too, thought their review damned the Amiga with faint praise and so spoke to Alan Joch & Tom Yager to find out why. Mr. Joch told me that C= had been…
