> James, I don't have the Matrox card but I experienced a simular problem with my ATI Ultra Graphics Pro during a RAM upgrade. The fix was setting my video memory above my physical RAM. There is a nice little utility with the Mach32 drivers that allowed me to define…
#Lines in Editor
Message #196992
Help, All of a sudden I have periodic "spurious?" lines running across the viewports in the Editor and the Keyframer. The lines are not signal interference of any kind. They seem to be generated from the meshes themselves. They appear in any number of situations such as after a bolean…
Keybrd Contrld Switcher
Message #196991
I just installed a new Rose Electronics "ServeView" Keyboard Controlled Switcher. I am impressed with the quality of this product, the documentation is excellent and installation is a breeze. I work on four computers at the same time and desk space became an increasing issue. Another reason I tried out…
Brent, You bet. Randy
Brent, I stumbled across this process for using 3D Studio and 95 on the same machine. It is the only way that works for me, ( that isn't to say there are not other /better ways) we have used this process on all of our machines with no problems so…
Kevin, Thank you. I'm on my way right now. Randy PS We enjoy and learn from your contributions to this forum. Thanks!
#Par and NT
Message #193199
Dave, I've been trying to find the 1.37 NT drivers for the PAR. I cannot access the DPS ftp site because I don't have a password. This is discouraging particularly because I'm a dealer for DPS. Called DPS today and the said the drivers are on their BBS. If they…
Lyle, I find it very useful to run the PAR from WFW 3.11. I also shell from 3D Studio to the PAR. This saves time when I need to preview what an image(s) " really" looks like on the TV screen. Anything that saves time in the "Tweaking Process" is…
David, I have to second your application of a fan to the open insides of the computer. I've had a couple of crashes with the PAR\ 2 Micropolis 2217A's but since I opened the tower case and directed a 10 inch fan at it no problems. We use the PAR…
Peter, I also run a Gateway2000 486- 66, 40M-RAM w/ ATI Ultra Graphics Pro. I use ATI Video drivers in Windows at 1024 x 768 60 some thousand colors and all is fine. I've rendered 420 frames at 756 x 480 seq. .tgas with KPT filtering (Gradient Designer " What…
Page Fault/raytrace
Message #135733
Hi Jonas, I am following up on this request for help I submitted from a couple of weeks ago. The solution was reloading 3DS with new disks, his original disks were corruped. I quess this weird thing of massive paging only when he rendered with more than one spotlight with…

Hi Jonas, The client has 16 meg on the notebook and 24 meg on the tower. The last time I spoke with him, Friday 10/21, he said that normal rendering was now starting to page and that on the 24 meg computer he can't remember that happening before. I told…

Thanks Jonas, I will call the fellow in the morning and have him send a copy of his version of stripped.
Hi Jeff, I'm going to jump in here to sugest a solution to the hardware lock problem, some of our machines have 5 dongles after bending a port one of my clients brought a little box over to the studio that will hold up to 6 locks and can be…

I left the block limit set very high while messing around to see what effect it had, if any, on image quality. I hadn't noticed any difference so I left it. I was working on deadline for a local TV spot. We had to call DPS to find out why…
Network Rendering/PAR
Message #112767
Hello Everyone, We have been hearing references to network rendering to the PAR over the last couple months and for life of us we cannot figure out how this could be done. We have 4 workstations and a file server on a Novell 3.12 LAN. Are we misinterpreting what is…

>> does your upper left viewport frequently not redraw with the others, as in returning from a render screen?
We use PROCOM PLUS from Data Storm. Somewhere around $90.00 for the DOS version. Works fine through an icon in windows. Zmodem works great! Good luck.
>>i just installed a PAR_DPS HD recorder and i am speechless. it is unbelievable. wooowwww!!!
Hi Tomas, Have you or your brother looked into Autodesk's AutoVision. You can check it out at your local Autodesk Multimedia dealer. Good Luck, Randy
Congratulations Greg & Susan!
William, If you determine what the problem is please let me know. I'm checking the drivers as Nik suggested. I may have different DOS versions loaded on different computers. This feels real familar and this does not happen on all my computers. !?!
Hi William, Sorry to butt in here but we have the same problem sometimes. Havn't really looked into the cause but we just leave a disk in the cd drive at boot-up and that irritating problem of manually addressing the drive went away for us. Hope the band aid helps…
Don, Thank you very much. We have made some adjustments to the wiring confiuration and things have improved considerably. As humiliating as this is I'm going to post what we were doing here for all to see. We were using a Y-type RCA adaptor cord to split the signal to…
Thank You David. Rendering to NULL did the trick. It took care of the problem I posted to the Hware\Opsys\Video section also. We design and install CATV systems and have run into some pretty strange magnetic induction effects and I was hoping that this wasn't one of them. (See-PAR,TARGA NTSC…
Thanks John, I enjoy reading your responses in this forum and appreciate your quick response. The problem is solved and I will paste the solution below. It was solved in the 3DS section under" Render Switching". I thought these two problems were separate and probably are but rendering to NULL…
Cesar, I've sent messages and about 50% of them never make it to the forum. I just chalked it up to unknown cicumstances. But it does get irritating when I havn't had enough sleep. By the way I can't think of what SW means, what is it?

Message #104661
I forgot to add this to my earlier request for help concerning the PAR in the Hware/OpSys/Video section under" PAR\TARGA NTSC Distortion" but I think this one is more of a 3DS3 situation so I'm sending it here. We have the render resolution set in 3DS3 to 752×480, aspect at…

Problems with ATI Mach64
Message #104400
"abnormal termination:page fault." "ATI Graphics board, EMM386" Nik & Matthias, Good answere Nik! I have the same card and it's great. I believe that the slow boot is due to EMM386. I've experimented a great deal with boot configurations and a stripped configuration is by far the fastest boot. I…
