Hi Bob! Which PBM do you run? Loyd

Steve Jackson Games relies on our Amiga to run our company BBS system. If you're interested in something like that, give me a call at 512/447- 7866. Loyd Blankenship
#32592 Algorithms wanted Message #32751
A number of years ago there was a PC Turbo Prolog package that contained the source for Chess, Go, and some other games. I found it a very good way to learn some basic game theory. You'd have to port the algorithms (I'm not aware of an Amiga Prolog package),…

The problem turned out to be an insuffecient number of bitplanes picked in PLANEPICK in the image structure. Thanks to Vic Wagner for hunting it down for me! Loyd

This is a short routine that *should* dump the pixel values of the image in the window iff_window. It works fine for a 16-color image. But when it reads a 32-color image, it does fine for colors 0-15, but thinks colors 16-31 are 0-15 again. What am I doing wrong…
Hmmmm. The "US" command seems to be broken here? What happened? Loyd

Help! Is there a library with a *reliable* (under 2.04) IFFtoWindow routine? Or does someone have a chunk of code they'll share with me!? I need a function that loads an IFF ILBM file into the window of my choice. I need it yesterday, to make matters worse. 🙁 The…
#28843 Selling the Amiga Message #28910
Trying to glean enough information to program using them vs. the ease with which I was able to get info (and implement) Adobe support. But the main point is that Adobe is real-world industry standard in printing/publishing. The only places I know still using Compugraphics are ancient dinosaurs that will…
#28711 #Selling the Amiga Message #28838
"except for font usage" Unfortunately, that's a very, very, *very* important part. 🙁 One of the things I'll never understand is why C= didn't bite the bullet and license Postscript instead of these godawful Comugraphic thingy. Loyd
#28751 Selling the Amiga Message #28837
I don't have a copy here at home (I don't have *room* for any more games! :-), but my recollection is that the player upon whom the card is played gets to pick. Loyd
#28732 Selling the Amiga Message #28836
It's not a computer game at all — it's a boxed card game. If you've ever played the game _Illuminati_ (which we also publish), the mechanics grew from it . . . Loyd
#28675 Selling the Amiga Message #28699
Nope — he's talking about our boxed card game, _Hacker_, that was released earlier in the year! Phreaks! Narcs! Net Ninjas! Pizza! Jolt! Everything you need to be an unruly computer thug . . . Loyd

🙂 Well, the high Amoeba hack rate is due to the 3000 sitting on my desk here. RHIP. 🙂 I'm putting _Hacker II: The Dark Side_ tentatively on the schedule for 2nd quarter 1993. Loyd
#28418- #Selling the Amiga Message #28531
Good questions. Recently I made the sad decision that I can't afford to buy any more Amiga hardware. I've owned a 1000, 500, 2000 and now have a 3000. The buck stops here. What will I buy next? A Quadra (or its big brother.) The hardware has a little bit…

#63776 #Commodore Responds Message #63904
Nick: I have to agree with you. I just laughed when I read C='s response. They're revitalizing the market, huh? And one day all god's chilluns will wear shoes, too. Me, I'm looking at a Quadra 950. Loyd
#23911 Amiga->Mac->Amiga Message #23938
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · Ramblings May 27, 1992 5:38 PM
Yes. Mac-2-Dos is a software package that lets you hook a mac drive up to your amiga. It's about $100 w/o drive. Amax II turns your Amiga into a great Mac simulator (and uses the Amiga drives). It costs about $400 with the Mac 128K roms included. I've also seen…

From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · Ramblings May 26, 1992 1:47 PM
There are several ways to go from Amiga->Mac (Mac-2-Dos, Amax, etc.). You can use the same path back. If you want to *work* on the file on the Mac, I know that PhotoShop has an IFF saver/loader. Loyd
#23853 Handyscanner HELP! Message #23886
The "Handyscanner" is a hand-held scanner (its name is listed on the hardware as "Handyscanner" and on the disk as "Han-d-scanner." It is for an amiga, and the software has "by IMPULSE" on the disk (although the person I talked to at Impulse denies knowledge of it… Loyd
#Handyscanner HELP! Message #23788
I have been elected to figure out how to hook up a friend's "Handyscanner " hand scanner to his A500. He has the hardware & the software, but no docs. If anyone can help me here, I'd appreciate it. Loyd

From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · Ramblings May 11, 1992 11:49 PM
Yes, Imagine 2.0 supports DCTV directly. IMHO, armed with Steve Worley's Imagine manual, it is very learnable. I like true ray-tracing, so I haven't really considered Caligari. Loyd

This seems as likely a place as any for info. 🙂 I use my A3000 as a UUCP node, so volume "w:" (where I have it set up) gets a *lot* of work (it's a Quantum 105, chained to the Amiga 55 meg HD). Lately, I've been coming home and…

Is it possible to do a flood fill of an area using the draw package in Presentation Manager. I'm halfway through the manual, but am on an incredible deadline and would like to bypass as much experimentation as possible. To elucidate, I wish to load an IFF image as a…
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming February 24, 1992 12:58 AM
One simple way to do it is to store the desired picture in an Image structure, then use DrawImage to plop it on the required screen. It saves mucking about with ViewPorts. Loyd
#19716 #Help! ILBM Loader! Message #19861
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming February 1, 1992 8:38 PM
Thanks, I'll check them out. I'm at my wits' end at this point. I've been trying to hack the code to Plop to fit my needs — but it doesn't seem to be working. If anyone has a working subroutine in the form of loadiff (Window, filename), I'll gladly pay…

Help! ILBM Loader! Message #19571
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming January 28, 1992 9:03 AM
When last seen, our intrepid programming crew had just learned of the myriad complexities of prototyping functions. This hurdle conquered, they leapt on into . . . the ILBM zone. Now that I can munge a window with DumpPixel, I have the problem of getting what I want *into* the…

Augh. I'm glad I asked, as I would have *never* caught that one. I automatically create void prototypes at the start of the file, and then forget about them! That sounds like it might be the solution. Thanks! Loyd
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming January 21, 1992 6:58 PM
In my quest to learn C as I program, I'm having a bit of a problem. So far I've got a bunch of windows open on a screen, all of them displaying the little pictures that I want. My goal is to have a subroutine that spits out the color…
Firecracker & A3000 Message #33891
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Vendor Forum · Impulse January 17, 1992 10:36 PM
Does the Firecracker (2 meg version) work with the 3000? If so, what kind of monitor do I need to support it? Will my IBM Samsung SVGA monitor work? Loyd
If you have a standard info pack, please fax it (512/447-1144) or mail to it me: Loyd Blankenship, c/o Steve Jackson Games, PO Box 18957, Austin, TX, 78760. Thanks! Loyd
We'll be putting in a Novell net at work (15 nodes), and I should have at least 2 Amigas installed there by then. It should be interesting to see how everything works together! Loyd
Sounds great. My question — is there a way to link a PC into the net? I'm thinking specifically about my house, which has anywhere from 1-3 Amigas and 2-4 PCs, depending on the time of day, weather, moon phase, and temperature at the lake. Loyd
#18069 Xenix and Progress Message #18081
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · Ramblings December 21, 1991 11:36 PM
I had Xenix running successfully on a 10 mhz 286 with 4 megs of RAM and an 80 meg HD. If all you want to run on it is Xenix, 40 megs will be plenty. If you want to do *any* DOS/Windows work, you'll need a bigger HD. Hell, if…

Congrats on the job! This Xenix — is it SCO Xenix, or SCO Unix? Xenix is (to put it mildly) buggy. I gave up on it after many hours of trying to get uucp to function correctly. If it's Unix, I hear they did a bit better job… Loyd

#Screen Image HELP! Message #17641
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming December 11, 1991 4:29 PM
I'm having a bit of a problem popping a custom image up on a Screen. This is slightly modified from Andres' C Manual. When I add in a bunch of stuff for opening a window and use DrawImage (main_window, &titlescreen_image,0,0) it works fine, and draws the custom image on the…
#C Help Needed! Message #17493
From: Steve Jackson Games Amiga Tech Forum · C Programming December 9, 1991 5:13 PM
The Problem: I need load an IFF picture file (non-HAM) and dump a color value for each pixel into a text file. In other words, if I load a 16-color picture, I would start in the upper left corner and work across, writing a 0 through F for each pixel.…
I spoke with y'all two weeks ago and was *assured* my subscription problem had been fixed and that the newest issue was winging its way to me. Still no sign. For those watching, it has now been 8 months (app. 240 days) since the charge was made to my Visa.…
#30408 DML Help Please!!!! Message #30713

A 900 number? Evil. I hope Oxxi continues to work with SBPro as far as upgrades go. Do you know if future versions are going to be cross-compatible with the Windows version? Loyd
