Alex, From a cost/performance effectiveness point of view you may be better off going with an accelerator with ram expansion capability instead. PCMCIA ram is not only $$$$ but slowwwww, so I've heard. Bill
John, If this monitor will synch at 15hz (native NTSC/Amiga) I'll take it. Please confirm and I'll email shipping instructions. Is UPS COD OK? Thanks. Bill
Gary, Many thanks. I'll look forward to it. What other cards do you use with yours? Bill
#75 Mhz BridgeBoard
Message #197409
Gary, I am very much interested in more information about converting my 386sx BB to a 486 as your earlier message describes. Please email more info if you can. Thanks. Bill
Somewhere (sorry, but don't recall where) I read that the PCMCIA slot is 16bit which adversely effects any memory or other peripheral used there. Bill
John, The issue is not the model of the HD. It's the SCSI card that you're using. I know that you must "format" HDs used on GVP cards/accelerators with GVP's own software. I'm not sure about "low level format". Bill
My recollection is that originally Commodore was a business equipment manufacturer or distibutor. It went into the computer business in one of its earlier "nine" lives. Bill
Gary, This home is either in Buffalo or Rome isn't it? Bill
Don, My subscription is coming due. I need to choose my renewal option. Will The AC Guide be published this summer? Bill
Paul, Many thanks. That's exactly what I was hoping. I gather you have one. Do you have any problems with it? Bill
DKB 3128 SIMMS?
Message #193219
What type of SIMMS are required with the DKB 3128 memory expansion for the A3000/4000? Bill
Aww, come on now Jerry. Tell what you really think. Bill
Mark, I have it on good authority that the A5000 will not be available until April 1. Announcements of its availability appear every year on that date. Bill
Hank, Yes, mine is an internal unit and the only documentation deals with how to insert and handle discs. These units are sold by Apple dealers as a "dealer to install" piece of hardware. I don't know of any reason why that would be true since CDROMs are not the…
Hank, Thank you for your reply…but how does one turn it on or off? Bill
#Apple 300i termination
Message #185313
Are there any users of an Apple 300i CDROM drive that can tell me how the termination is set? The manual has NO technical info because this unit is supposed to be installed by an authorized tech. I want to add it to my Emplant. Thanks. Bill
I suspect …
Message #179660
I suspect that the creditors are not particularly excited about any of the current offers for rights to the Amiga and any other remaining asset because all of the offers are such a small percentage of the total debt that they are going to eat. If the estimates of debt…
Carol, you have the perfect setup for an EMPLANT (provided you have an empty Amiga slot). Excluding system and application software and the Mac roms they cost $350-400 with all ports (serial and SCSI). The roms are pretty cheap these days (Mac II/IIx/IIcx/SE30 required). In fact if you have one…
John, I recall a few presidential candidates who were winners but were actually losers. The opinions expressed above are strictly my own and do not reflect the opinions of my wife. Bill
Dale, 1.2M floppies are 5 1/4", aren't they? Do you mean that Amigas ever came with them? Bill
Joe, I think that's a Brit expression used much like we use the term "major" in college, i.e., an area of emphasis. Bill
300i CDROM ?
Message #163160
Has anyone here installed a 300i CDROM internally in their Amiga? I am thinking of getting one to use with EMPLANT in my A3000T because they are a pretty reasonably priced unit ($225 at one local outfit). However, they tell me that there are different mountiing kits for various Macs.…
Jerry, It seemed that a lot of the single unit sales went to people who didn't have much of a clue. The pros could be seen bidding up to whatever they were willing to pay. Then there almost always seemed to be two or three who would keep going until…
Dale, The prices you speak of seem typical for my two experiences with Ross-Dove auctions. I have seen PC equipment sold for Sears Business Systems and excess inventory sold by Apple. In both cases there were few bargains..particularly for single units. Somehow these guys are able to attract a lot…
Retina H-E-L-P!
Message #162975
Steve, The US distribution of this product is now done by Noahji. Their phone number is listed in the latest issue of one of the Amiga mags..I don't recall which..at the end of a review of something else they distribute. I also have a Retina and called them for the…

Old Amigas
Message #161090
John, Most of the fossils I know live in Florida, the Ozarks or Arizona. I don't know any that moved to Alabama. Bill
John, I have used an EMPLANT SCSI for a B/W scanner and it worked great with OCR. I can't imagine why there would be any problem with color and Photoshop. Bill
Kevin, I didn't mean my other note here as a comment on your posting. It is encouraging at least if not as definitive as most of us would like. The mention of the name Ali in the article triggered my other not. Bill
Bob, I have removed blanker entirely (so far as I can find it) entirely from my DH0 drive. It still happens. My WBStartup drawer is empty. I have set EGSNight? to 180 seconds but the screen goes black before that. $%^&*()_+ Bill
valid/chksum probs?
Message #156855
I keep getting "SYS not validated" messages or "Checksum error at Block xxxx" when booting my A3000T/40. After repeated tries it finally boots properly and I can proceed. I just reformatted (low level), repartitioned and reformatted the drive hoping to cure the problem. It recurred the next day. I have…
#remove blanker?
Message #156730
I can't seem to remove or change my screen blanker. It justs turns the screen blank after 30 seconds no matter what I do. I hvae removed it entirely from the "Commodities" drawer after trying to edit it (and its icon). I want to use the EGS Spectrum blanker instead.…
Mark, ParNet is an Amiga to Amiga connection via the parallel port. It allows one Amiga to take complete control over the other. There have been ethernet devices for Amigas that will enable them to be used on networks. I'm not sure if they are currently being produced. Bill
Michael, Thanks for the clarification. There has been so much conjecture that it is best to make note of what few facts we have available. Bill
BTW, how does one get MacWeek? I guess it's not on newstands. Thanks in advance for info. Bill
Jerry, Was this the 486 emulation that the article spoke of? It sounds like it. To add to all of the speculation that is going around absent any hard news, perhaps a potential buyer of the Amiga technology is discussing the purchase of the entire Emplant system. As I recall…
Doug, Memory World has (or at least has recently had) them. They advertise in AW. Bill
Hilary, I'm not sure that if I've ever seen a black one, but external SCSI cases are readily available. I've seen them listed in Tenex's catalog. I suspect most suppliers that advertise in AW/AC would also carry them. On a local level dealers that sell Macs would also carry them.…
#EGS/monitors ?
Message #84819
I am about to reinstall my EGSSpectrum in my A3000T/040 using either of two monitors. One is a NEC 3GFe and the other is a Nanao 550i. Which would you recommend as preferable? I believe that the NEC requires some sort of adapter. What is it and where can I…
Dale, I have been running an A3000T/040 with 16 meg fast ram for several months and haven't had any problem. Bill
Ron, I've been told that all the keyboard takes is a PS/2 adapter. These are readily available in the PC world..and cheap. Bill
Jerry, "Are you saying that other people are entitled to post only messages that you agree with?" Hardly. See Andrews comment. Bill
Andrew, Well put! and thanks for the comment. Bill
Richard, Not a sysop here, but ADPro does a great job on the Amiga side. On the PC side Hijaak will read IFF files as will Alchemy (a shareware program). Good luck. Bill
Jerry, What exactly is your purpose in being here? If you are into Macs and/or PCs there are other forums for those. Those of us that are here and read these messages have an active interest in Amigas. We (at least I) don't care to spend $ downloading a continuous…
David, The Emplant board is not a Mac emulator until you add a Mac rom image to it. The answer to your question is "yes", you will have to buy the board plus the PC emulation package. Mac users have to buy the board plus obtain Mac roms. I have…
Mal, You haven't check market share lately. The imports including the Japanese have slipped a lot in the last 3 years. A Buick Century is not a good example of current American cars. Try a Regal, a LeSabre or the new Riv. Personally I'm biased toward the Chrysler line myself.…
Joseph, Actually keeping up with technology can be a real bargain IF you are willing to be in the second row. After being burned a few times a few years ago by state-of-the-art equipment because of cost/ depreciation, lack of software that took full advantage of it, and buggy stuff,…
Paul, Your comments about UU's board are most interesting, but your comment about Emplant and its release makes me finally comment about something that I've thought for a long time. To me, the most famous prolonged gestation period of Amiga hardware was the now well-loved Toaster. Newtek had this thing…
Jerry, Agreed on both points. Perhaps part of the "charm" of owning an Amiga is the mystery of it all. This sort of thing has gone on for so long… Bill
Jerry, I would suspect that this sort of action might be undertaken in federal court. If so it could be in any federal district in the country. A search would have to be made in every district for the case. This could be an expensive and time consuming project. If…
