Bart, >> Can anyone tell me how to print a single Quicken check on my HP4P?
Gene, >> Thanks for the Boise tip. I haven't tried that one yet

Allan, >> However. I wonder if someone has "nice" grey scale user-defined patterns defined that I could start with.
Cary, If you can tolerate manual switching, I could recommend the electronic matrix switch boxes from Black Box. I use five of the 4×8 boxes (ganged) to switch between 8 PCs and 32 printers in my lab. They pass all 25 pins through in both directions without effecting the signals;…
Tony, According to my information, the 4V/4MV does not directly support either the C6 or A5 sizes, nor can it accept arbitrary (user-defined) paper sizes. If it could, it would know how they are fed in the MP tray and would position the images correctly. Comm 10 envelopes, for example,…
Allan, How are you generating the grey scale patterns? In PCL mode, the printer is only capable of generating 8 different grey patterns to fill arbitrary rectangles. With the newer 600 dpi printers, these patterns are the same as those originally generated with the first LaserJets for backwards compatibility. These…
Vincent, We have approx. 1,000 4MV's in service and I have not had this problem reported to me. In our group we have 5 units and all are working fine. Believe me, I'd be the 2nd to know of any problems . Is this a brand-new printer or did the…
Gene, >> I've found and tried Xerox 4201, which HP says they test their printers on.
Regina, >> It looks like the LPT1 port is not enabled. The connect says LPT1 local port not present.
Nigel, I really can't understand why so many folks are having trouble with the bin selection. It really does work with the 2.1.1 drivers. Some people have found that they have the 500-sheet accessory for the original 4/4M which will not work with the Plus models–this has nothing at all…
Terry, I can't find any way to disable IO switching from the printer's control panel either. Perhaps the I/O Timeout value is set to a very high number which would tend to "lock" the printer to the more commonly used port? – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 12-May-1995, 00:04:39 EST [Troy,…
Regina, >> Why is it always paused??
Steve, Make sure the driver is set to Raster Mode not GL/2. Lotus sends a lot of bitmapped data which chokes the printer in GL/2 mode (which is normally more efficient). – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 11-May-1995, 23:55:25 EST [Troy, MI]
Peter, The part number of the 500-sheet paper feeder for the PLUS is C2083D. This unit will work with both models. The original 4/4M parts were C2083A (Letter, exec, A4) and C2083B (Letter, Legal, exec, A4). The newer tray assembly has a corner hold-down tab that has a larger surface…
Ken, >> The PC is using VGA video drivers at 640 by 480 resolution!
Alex, >> Yea i know that you can set it to mixed bins, and if you lock a tray it should work, but i would call this a "workaround".
Cary, >> thanks for the info. do you think it's possible that printer sharing device could be causing my problems?
Robert, If it shows up again, I'd have the printer serviced. – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 11-May-1995, 00:13:03 EST [Troy, MI]
Greg, >> I'm look for a PPD file for the HP4V printer.
LaserJet 4V Serial port
Message #270773
Barclays, >> 1. Does the HP4V support serial port connection, if yes are both the serial and JetDirect connections active simoultaneously? (We need serial printing for our VAX users, while PC users print thru a JetDirect card.)
#LJ4SiMx Tray Selection
Message #270772
Alex, It's NOT a bug in 2.1.1 or 2.1.2. The driver must be set to MIXED BINS. Then it works. But this is a big secret . Doesn't your NDA preclude mentioning your beta test involvement? (Mine does.) – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 11-May-1995, 00:07:52 EST [Troy, MI]

Steve, You must set the PostScript driver (from Window's Control Panel) paper source to MIXED BINS to be able to have more than one bin selected in a single print job. (Don't tell anyone, this is one of the best-kept secrets in a long time.) – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @…
Jack, It's actually related to the non-VGA video driver being used in combination with 600 dpi. – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 11-May-1995, 00:02:35 EST [Troy, MI]

Nigel, I assume that you are using the 4M+ PostScript printer driver 2.1.1 or 2.1.2. From the Windows Control Panel, Printers, SetUp, etc., you must set the driver's paper source to "Mixed Bins." Then choose the various bins as desired in Word. – Dick Minnick [Ford],74417,51 @ 10-May-1995, 23:41:11 EST…

#HP LJ 4 PCL & Excel
Message #270764
Dennis, Excel is really the culprit and we have been asking MS for several years to make some fixes/enhancements in the area of column widths and row heights (one request: to be able to specify an absolute measurement for each that would be maintained when switching printer drivers). One thing…
