Jonas Ruikis [Adesk] informs me that the Spline-Based Modeler listed in the _official_ Autodesk announcement but omitted from the distribution for 3DS, will NOT be provided free to R4 upgraders if it becomes available. Is this correct?

It's really too bad that there's not better news about an NT version of 3DS – especially since DECs Alpha PCs are quite fast and fairly reasonable – and I believe they've just released a chip running at 275Mhz. E.
I've had Photostyler for awhile… just got Photoshop – there seem to be more plug-ins and 3rd party How-To's about it. And… I need all the how-to I can get!!! 😉

Seems to me there's a file in this forum called AMR.TXT [Advanced Modeling and Rendering] that describes a book/software deal. I think the software called Mirage, will raytrace a .3DS file. There was also something about if you buy the book now, you'll get a break on the final version…

Me neither! I'm not sure what MSoft actually bought – and I _think_ Will Vinton has his own enterprise, too. The reference to 'Promation' was recent so maybe there'll be an announcement soon.
I think I've heard/read that Playmation will reappear as Promation. You've probably also heard that Microsoft bought this product. You might want to GO GRAPHDEV and see what's going on there — look for the POV ray-tracing forum.
I'll have to take a closer look at that. Does it also throw off 'drops' from the material that the projectile object splashed into?
