Congratulations, John. (pretty name, btw)
You don't gotta be afraid of me, Bem; I won't hurt you :). Today must be Monday. I never could get the hang of Mondays.
gee, My 3000 travelled allllll the way from OKCity to California with me. Of course, I couldn't USE it while travelling, but.. 🙂 Today must be Monday. I never could get the hang of Mondays.
Dunno, last I heard, she was married with two li'l bambinos. Today must be Monday. I never could get the hang of Mondays.

You're speaking as tho 'responsibility' is some kind of objective absolute. The magazine's responsibility is to itself, the owners, and stockholders (if any). I don't argue that if Playboy makes more pandering to sexuality than beauty it should go in that direction. My point is, if they go in that…

Nope. That's an abuse of capitalism that is self-correcting. Excessive hyperbole, and people will stop relying on the magazine (unless what they _want_ is the hyperbole, which is an entirely different market), stop buying the magazine, and so the magazine changes or dies. Today must be Friday. I never could…

On the contrary. .info did quite well for a long while and had a respectable reputation for 'honest' reviews (even tho they were a bunch of Iowa pukes). It was only a short while before their demise that they began losing their edge… and their readership. Also, they're not the…
I didn't say "Amiga HMI developers". I said "Amiga programmers"… I was just asking how much enthusiasm for cim you thought there was. (I _hate_ it when you get in these moods 🙁 ) Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
Regardless of how you get it, it's copyrighted and the author requires payment. Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
"Yellow". hmm. Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
uhm… nevermind Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
I KNOW I hope that the Amax II Plus can run concurrent with AmigaDOS… but, as I've been informed.. it don't 🙁 Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
It is. I like it muchly. I just wish I had IPX/SPX (whatever it is that's needed for email). I have Ideas for it 🙂 Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
Yup. We have a DMI resolver hooked up to a CadVision monitor (20", dunno who makes it, it's not on my machine 🙁 ). Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Michael, both People and Playboy have a responsibility to give their target audience what they wish to purchase. I used to get Playboy regularly, not because of the articles (chuckle… tho they are good), but because of the way they portrayed the beauty of the female form. When I felt…
Michael, it's not an assumption, at all. It's capitalism in action. A magazine's… function? Design? is to convey information that people will want to such a degree that they will repeatedly pay money to acquire new issues of the magazine as they come out. If the magazine fails to do…
but, john.. WHY should there be a difference? Is the latest MC Hammer 'song' more worthy of review than Beethoven's Fur Elise because the latter is PD (forgetting for the moment that Fur Elise has been out longer). A magazine devoted to Rap might not mention Fur Elise; but a…
… (robert deniro voice) "are you talkin' ta me? are you talkin ta ME?"
Since posting that message, I d/led several dirutils… one of which was DirWorks. It's terrific, everything Utilmast was and more. It has the 2.0 look and feel, far more reprogrammable… it's not easy to get set up, but it really looks good.
right.. so do a comparison of any they happen to know of. If they don't know about a non-packaged piece of software, or even a packaged one, they can't review it. That's life. But to not review a non-packaged product that the reviewer is aware of for a 'theme' review…
Denny, you want I should send you shareware to review as I grab it? Heck, I could even send a completed review (heck heck… I could even do a column…. )
Why don't 'we' get together and make a trade journal ('we' being the group of users and developers in the amiga fora). Lord knows, we could get good reviews of products, maybe even some unbiased ones, and it would easily be able to cover both commercial and non-commercial software. Just…
But, SID is commercial, not public domain. However, your point is still valid, as I don't think the magazines (except maybe .info) cover shareware well enough, either.
Steve, thanks for the full story on HMI. I haven't thought about it for awhile.. which is good for my blood pressure. Offhand, how many amiga programmers do you think would tackle an Amiga CIM if they had access to the HMI specs/libs? 6? 10? all of us? Today must…
Wunnerful! Now I gotta get a bridge for my 3K, the ATop accelerator, and the Amax II Plus… I hope the Amax II Plus can run concurrent with AmigaDOS? Then I could have all 3 O/Ses running at once… need more memory, yeah… still.. wow. Neat. Today must be Thursday.…
Hmm… I like the Amiga's networking… but I really wish it had email capability under Novell (hey, Pat @ Oxxi… you listening? ). Ah, well. Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I dunno bout VM. I've been using it on a 386SX under winders. I don't like it. So there. Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Ben, something I have to compliment you on is the way you not only acknowledge other products, but (IMAO) fairly evaluate them when you speak of them. I've yet to hear a comment about some competing product that sounded (again, IMAO) even slightly prejudicial. I honestly wish I could be…
YOU play with model trains? 🙂 Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Some of us still remember Laura (maxine headroom) Longfellow . Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I was afraid you ask that… I suspect that it's a reference to the movie.. which took place/was filmed around Waterloo, IA, as I understand (can't be sure; when I heard it took place in Iowa, I boycotted it). Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of…
I dunno from MSRP… I just know from the wholesaler from whom I was going to buy PC Ethernet cards, the price was $219. Today must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Utilimaster
Message #56076
The thread regarding FR vs packaged software got me thinking and searching… anybody know where I can find whatever the latest version of the Utilimaster dirutil is? I want to give it a try again, and can't find it. Thanks in advance Today must be Tuesday. I never could get…
I've seen Diskmaster II and Directory Opus used around here recently. I've also seen SID. I still prefer Utilimaster (unfortunately, it stopped working on my 3000… have to test it out again rsn). I think if a magazine is going to review "directory utilities" it should include any PD, FR,…
Mike, PD programs shouldn't cost any money anyway.. they're public domain. Shareware, on the other hand (which should be considered commercial, IMAO) is copyrighted, but freely redistributable. I'm sure you already know this, but there may be one or two folken reading this thread that don't. Today must be Tuesday.…
> I don't think it's good for a magazine to adopt a policy of comparing it to commercial software < Hmm. I think a magazine should review freely redistributable software (whether it be PD, FR, or Shareware). In _most_ cases I think reviews of FR stuff should be separate from…
I second the Notebook files suggestion. (or third or fourth, by whenever you read this 🙂 Today must be Tuesday. I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.
My guess is that when you see the guru, they were attempting to display the info live (why, I dunno). The buggy software I would guess is Dpaint or its equivalent. Today must be Monday. I never could get the hang of Mondays.
Yup, sho' am serious, Michael (as serious as I ever get). I guess they _really_ wanted to get by on the cheap. Today must be Monday. I never could get the hang of Mondays.
Hmm… I've seen a few of Clint's worlds… some of em are pretty close to perfect. _close_. …. Today must be Sunday. I never could get the hang of Sundays.
I tried Term 2.0 awhile back, and dropped it cause of the lousy 'chat mode' that reminded me of JRComm (only thing I have against JRComm). I tried 2.1 to see if they fixed it, they hadn't.. and I couldn't get this one to dial from the phonebook. Today must…
_Which_ software? The folks I worked with were using DPaint II (til I got em to upgrade… they may have a HD by now, even :). Sure looked stock to me. I believe they fed it out to tape via the RF modulator they had, but I'm not sure. It…
Yes, that's nationwide, I think. Cox Cable in OKCity hired me to show them how to use their Amiga for titling and graphics on the preview guide, and they told me that their system (A500, two floppies.. 1.2! and a tv for a monitor) was given to them, as I…
What machine do you think is 'standard'? The majority of machines I encounter are running at 25 mhz (with 030s). Today must be Sunday. I never could get the hang of Sundays.
Jim we have evaluated the Token Ring market every year since 87. Every year we come up with the same answer, "We could sell 3". If you have information to the contrary, please contact us. Regarding XEdit/KEdit.. we'd be delighted to do it… how much money ya got? Today must…
Actually, most of the Amiga Network cards appear to be about the same price as their DOS counterparts… 8-bit Arcnet cards (for DOS) are considerably cheaper, but then.. that's what you're buying, too. Today must be Sunday. I never could get the hang of Sundays.
Steve, I just d/led GadToolsBox yesterday. I've used PowderWindows, and from the little of GadToolsBox I've seen, I'll be using it (and the GadTools library) a lot more than I used PW. Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
What has a high-priority for them, then? Today must be Friday. I never could get the hang of Fridays.
