Jay, Congratulations on getting the erasible optical out the door. I talked to the XYXIS people at Comdex last November and the mentionned they were working on an Amiga version at that time though they made it sound like the decision to market it wasn't final yet. I mentionned the…
For more info on Mac-2-Dos see my review of it in the current issue (April-May) of Amiga Plus magazine. For the record I'm no expert on the Mac but did a lot of research on it for the article……unfortunately most of the above technical info got left on the editing…
Mike, The problem of disk interchangeability between the Mac and the Amiga is due to (as Betty has explained) the fact that the Mac floppy drives operate at a variable speed while Amiga drives maintain a constant speed. The original Apple drives and early clone drives were 'dumb' mechanisms….they were…
#One of the new Amigas?
Message #72672
I just captured the following message off a local bbs: I was down in New York for the UnixExpo and in one of the workstation demo areas I came across a unexpected sight…..an Amiga 2500 with a 68030 board, ethernet board, new fat agnes and ECS chip set running. .wait…

Your discussion with John Foust on IBM scan codes/key codes interested me because I will soon have the need to access remotely an IBM system which is looking for function key scancodes. There is one IBM term program that will send out the function key scancodes (Qmodem) but I would…
Steve, I thought that what it was but I wanted to check before I put it in writing. I think they said the driver was either free or very nominal for exsisting or new Trumpcard owners. Ed

#Mac or Amiga?
Message #62873
John, There is one Amiga harddrive that does work with Amax…..I saw it up and running at AmiExpo in Chicago. The neccessary software was not done by Readysoft but rather by the company that markets the drive. I can't remember the name of the company but I could look it…
#SMALLTALK
Message #57899
David, Someone at one of our local universities has ported SmallTalk to the Amiga. He was able to do this since he has acess to the SmallTalk source code because of his work. However this was all done for his own use only and he cannot distribute the Amiga version.…
Electronic Arts was demoing Deluxe Paint III in their booth and on stage at World of Commodore in Toronto this past weekend. The major features were as you described (64 colours with half-brite and page flipping animation). Projected ship date is March.

Mac Emulation
Message #17812
The emulator attaches to the floppy drive port and hence should work on all Amigas. It uses the 128K roms (available for $99 according to ads in Computer Shopper). It will hopefully be shown first to the public in at WOC/Philly with shipping being targetted for late in the year…

Prior to the release of the Amiga CBM offered Ashton-Tate a sum in six figures to develop a database product for the Amiga. AT turned them down. Ed
Well first of all its not a "personal" project…..I've spent both time and money to try and do something which I think will be good for the Amiga and the Amiga community. And whereas I do admit that your position has some validity and that I could be construed as…
Well I can undestand your position and maybe I should plead guilty to that to a small extent but I don't think people would trmendously object to it after having read the message. However I think your substitution (as I said to Don) was very smart alecky and insensitive and…

that 1.3 is shipping. Well we currently have a thread going sayi: "1.3….Never?" but nobody has seen fit to change that so that people don't get the impression that 1.3 will never ship. We also have messages saying that 1.3 KS is shipping with some 500s. So why pcik on…
#Sysop Forum Censorship?
Message #10967
Don, I have a real flame here over what I consider censorship by one of the forum Sysops (if it was you then you'll know about the rest of this and if it wasn't you then I think you should be aware of what happened). I posted a message #10954…

Message #10954
Well I always thought if you wanted to convey a message to your audience you had to get their attention first. What with Whap! being used, and people reading headers only, I figured the above heading was a good way to get people to read this message. So it isn't…

John, Within Canada data communications are either provided by Telecomm Canada (Datapac) or by CNCP Telecommunications. Rates for both of these services (as well as telephone service) are regulated by the federal government. However international carries such as Tymnet, CIS or Genie (the only three that I know of that…
I know for a fact that when the Amiga was in the development stage CBM offered Ashton-Tate a sum "in six figures" to do a DBase program for the Amiga. Ashton-Tate turned them down.
Acutually having a lot of dongelized programs ould give Amiga owners something new to brag about….i.e. "Well I've got a 10 inches"…."Big deal! I've got at least 20 inches!" . Actually with dongles on the serial/parallel por you could just plub in a short cable and then plug in the…
I agree with you on the unreasonableness of some licensing restrictions, especially when its says it can only be used on a particular machine. Part of my job is evaluating software for potential use in my organization. I will usually try out the software first and then pass it on…
According to Perry Kivolovitz VD0: was substantially done in a day and completely finished in a weekend.
Well I don't think people are arguing that Personal and Pro are the same but it is reasonable to assume that Personal is some sort of subset of Pro….and having bought Personal why should you pay for the same features all over again by paying full or near full list…

Superbase PRO
Message #6880
I didn't get the impression that Personal and Pro were two completely different products. From the product names the sound like two different versions of the same product. Its not like the difference between Wordperfect and Library.
So if it doesn't matter whether or not the power is on…..i.e. it's a matter of static electricity…..then couldn't you blow a chip by plugging in your mouse or a joystick too irrespective of whether the Amiga is powered up or not?
Reminds me of a presentation Jim O'Flaherty of Haitex at AmiExpo in New York last fall……if memory serves me right he was demoing Acquisition which at the time was dongled. Jim was going to be doing his demo on a 2000 which at the time were still pretty new. Unfortunately…

Well I use a program at work that has a dongle. This is a MS-Dos project management package that sells for $3000 US per copy. The dongle plugs into the parallel port and has a pass through for the printer. We have a dozen copies of the program (and of…

Jim, I dl'ed the new version (1.2D) and it seems to have done the trick. I logged on and got my T2400 file set up and collected messages and file catalogues without any problem. Sure wish you had put the abbreviated whap module and doc file before the full new…
