VXL30 Message #74120
From: Ted Weiss AMIGAUSER Forum · Amiga Hardware October 21, 1992 9:49 PM
Does anyone know anything about the Microbotics VXL 30 25Mhz accelerator for the A500? I'm thinking about getting one so I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone has used one at all TED

Thanks, I wasn't going to tape RIGHT on the connector ! I will put a shield between. As we say in the theatre "if you can't do it with a staple gun and gaffer's tape, it can't be done". I think I have the "electronic legos" game prety well sorted…

John, "print a single character at a time" – you mean only one character per page?? Since I am running a 2500/2.04/HP LJIIIP/my driver, I haven't seen any problems. Wonder if CBM changed something in the hardware. Could it be a handshake timing problem? Are the towers the '040 or…

Well, thanks everyone for all the help on my CD ROM install. Although I now have far more grey hair than before, and my dog knows several new colorfull swear words, I now have a working CD ROM drive. Thanks, everyone!!! OK, OK, stop complaining already! I'll tell you what…

From: david lewis AMIGAUSER Forum · Amiga Hardware October 21, 1992 5:20 PM
I did and it works great. The price was very reasonable. As I said.. its not the latest or the greatest but for the price it seems to offer a very good bang for the buck.

All, I've run into something interesting. I am using a PanaSync C1381i with CBM's A2320 display adapter. In the deinterlaced 640 by 400 (actually overscanned to 740+ by 420+ but the same happens even in non-overscanned) mode, I have a problem on the right edge of my screen. It seems…

Dom, I think I see. You're saying the company bought directly from Commodore? In that case: I'm sure that they were told what they were buying and bought it anyway, not knowing any better. It was probably cheaper. I'm sure it wasn't kept a secret, but the problem is probably…

Dominick, Commodore doesn't sell Amigas, dealers do. Think about what you said, "Commodore has no business selling a discontinued model." Well, the reason it is discontinued is because Commodore isn't selling it. That's the definition of discontinued! Sounds like some dealer took advantage of your boss who didn't know better.…

Hi, I've got a strange compatibility problem. For the past 18 months I've been happly using A2000 w/45 Mb HD. Last night, however, I installed a used A2620 into my heretofore happy Amiga, and now, if I try to boot into the 68020 it says my boot partition has a…

Unfortunately, neither that model of the 2500 nor that model of hard-drive controller are being made anymore. The standard is the 68030 model 2500 with 2091 controller. Additionally the current 2500s are shipping with 5MB ram, not 3MB. Basically, you were given older technology. The 030 is appr 2.5x the…

David, The October 1990 issue of AmigaWorld has a review of the EXP-8000+. It seems that three out of four A500s they tested it on had problems with "brush" operations in DeluxePaint III and Digi-Paint 3. . .'problems' meaning 'crashing mightily'. . . Greg M

David, I've got 6 megabytes of fast ram and a 40 megabyte hard drive in my ToolBox (running off an A500). The ram is on a MicroBotics 8-UP SIMM expansion board; as 1 megabyte SIMMs are going for around $49 – $70, it's very easy to upgrade. I had to…

You can do likewise with the Mega Midget Racer. It plugs into the 68000 slot, and the 68000 plugs into it. It provides socketing for 68020/030 and 68881/82 as well as 500 K of 32-bit ram and a card connector to add more 32 bit ram. The card does not…

I had a mouse that would only move horizontally. Suspecting the 8520, I swapped the chips. Then it would only move vertically. Turned out both 8520s were busted. I also had a bad Fat Agnus; I don't know if that caused/was caused by/contributed to the problem. 8520s are less than…

Betty, I agree with your assessment of the situation. The machine definitely is new in terms of prior usage. I suspect that Commodore had some old machines left over with the old boards in them that they hadn't sold. I'm fairly certain that you couldn't buy the old boards separately,…

RODIME DRIVE Message #575
From: R. B. Nielsen AMIGAUSER Forum · Amiga Hardware September 12, 1990 11:56 PM
A number of Amiga users have experienced problems with the Rodime hard drive and 2090A controller. These problems include unexpected drive freeze or shutdown, uncertified bad sectors, unusable disk space, etc. The shutdowns are only fixed by a cold boot – not much of a fix for RAMDISK users -…

Vic, Two programs that consistently fail are IntroCAD and UltraCAD. Both of them fail while rendering drawings on-screen. Almost everything else runs fine. (I frequently have files in RAM: that are at least 1 week old. – generally, I only reboot by choice for a specific reason.) Hope this rings…

Rob, it sounds to me like your 23 pin cable is defective in some way. There have been some pretty dubious cable designs published. A properly made cable attached to the 23 pin connector should not affect the flickerFixer display. You might want to check with Redmond Cable. Peter.

Dave, The Reujevenator is an add-on internal board designed by Greg Tibbs that allows the new enhanced chip set (ECS) to be used with the A1000 and it also gives it the ability to add a Flicker Fixer (from MicroWay) to the A1000 also. Yes, it has the new chips,…

Larry, Improperly written software can choke on long pathnames (or anything that ends up being larger than the author thought the largest possible would be).
