Steve, I just received my AM v.3 upgrade notice via snail mail today and I have a few questions. 1. What other improvements beside Unattach and Insert Control point have been made to the modeler ? Any other tools ? 2. What is variable patch resolution ? 3. Would you…
Charles, I'm glad you got it solved! I was getting worried for a minute there . Jim Jonah
Steve, Thanks anyways! Guess I'll have to wait for the good stuff after school. Why is everything great after school? Can't wait to hear about the results from the customers. -ANDREW
No Problem…We can still move it if you wish. Bruce Herzog Forum Staff NY 15-Feb-95 at 5:30p EST
Steve, That's kind of what I figured. As far as Warp, I can't really see the point of buying one OS to operate another. The only reason I would try NT would be because if I can get a job this year, I would look at buying a DEC Alpha.…
Hash (Steve?), I have a coupla questions regarding A:M 3.0. 1. Are the Goraud and Phong options available in the renderer or as preview only? 2. If not, can you give me any indication of how much faster the ray tracing is? 3. Are there still plans to release a…
Thats a tough one! IMHO, NT is only suited to Pentiums with 32MB+ Ram…. I have no experience with OS/2, except it's a ROYAL pain to configure…. You may want to wait and see what WIN95 brings… Steve, Hash Inc.
Sorry, Andrew…. I know 200.00 is alot especially for a student! but we've poured mega effort into this new version and we think you will find it's worth every penny! Steve, Hash Inc.
Dejan, I have notified Hash of the files and they are safely in a private section waiting for thier attention. They will be in tocuh with you directly. Regards, Jenee
Particles??? How??? Grady III
Thanks. See you at NAB! We'll be in the Newtech Pavilion.
THanks for the heads up. Won't do it again. So far haven't had any nasties coming in. Alex Imbastari
#OS Upgrade
Message #4254
Steve, I just found out that there is no upgrade from Windows 3.11 to Windows NT; I have to cough up about $290 which I'm not sure I want to do. I would like to take advantage of a 32 bit OS, but I'm not so sure that Warp is…
#AM and OS2 WARP
Message #4251
After a few false starts I have Animation Master Running well under Warp. But why you may ask? I often have the need to render multiple batches of animations, sometimes executing a program to alter textures or other attributes within the files [thank you HASH for providing ASCII files and…
#Version 3 New features!
Message #4250
Steve, WOWSERS! Looks great, but I thought the $100 upgrade was a lot for A:M 2.0 (had a coupon for A:M when I got Playmation 1.47 at SIGGRAPH ''93). Now it's going to be $200! You guys wouldn't happen to have a student discount would you? Please, Please, Please !…
Steve, I'm sure I read it in the "Inside Track" of PC Mag a couple of issues ago, but maybe they got their facts mixed-up. I'm glad to hear that Hash is Microstuff free!!! Have you talked to Jenee about the file upload situation? I haven't tried to upload anything…
Charles, So… the PMac wins!!!! (this time ). I'm glad you got it solved, don't you just hate that 8.3 file name business? I feel for that one myself a few times :). Jim Jonah
#Version 3 New features!
Message #4237
Version 3 New Features February, 1995 Over a year has been poured into this new version. It is a complete rewrite in C++ to accommodate an integrated interface. Below is a slight description of the new features I can remember. I hope you will be as pleased with it as…
NO! Hash and Microsoft were dealing in the summer of '93 but we felt uncomfortable and the deal fell apart… Hash Inc is a solely owned corporation. No part is owned by anyone in any way!!! Ah, the pleasures of being solvent…. Steve, Hash Inc.
Alex, This is a public forum. Your Phone number in the signature is a BAD idea…let us know if you wish it moved to a safe area of the forum by replying to this thread. It's your call. Bruce Herzog Forum Staff NY 13-Feb-95 at 3:23p EST
Steve, Glad to hear that Hash and Microsoft are on seperate paths. Just a curious question: I read in PC Mag that Microsoft had purchased the right to Hash's spline based coding. Is that correct? As for allowing more freedom in uploading, read message #4154. -ANDREW
The "relative projects path" system of filing has been completely redone in version 3…. users who have had troubles with projects will bless us for this I think… It is basically just like any othe file chooser dialog now. Steve, Hash Inc.
Alex, A:M unfortunately does not support rendering directly to a PAR drive, you must first render to a DOS drive, then move the files… Version 3 will support direct to PAR drive rendering. As for your output problem, I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, that's how we have ours…
Thanks, I was starting to suspect that the problem was related to the Project structure. I'll do some re-organising. This makes new interactions between characters developed under previous Projects rather hard work. Any plans to change the Project system in the next release?
The projects path is VERY important when doing figue substitution…. make sure that the figures you are substituting are in the same project folder as the rest of the pieces of the figure that has the substituted parts. This means some careful manipulation of your previous projects, but it's the…
>>Are there any plans for a competitive upgrade or a CD-rom based application of your Animation Master or Playmation for under a $150 like Imagines $99 package.
Glad to hear you aren't running off anywhere 🙂 I wish there was something I could do to get a little more freedom in what is allowed in uploads… BTW I wanted to let you know that Hash Inc. is no longer affiliated with Microsoft in any way! Steve, Hash…
#Rendering with PAR & AM
Message #4212
Dear Hash Inc et al, I have a P90 with a DPS Par card installed. From the render module, I am trying to render directly to the PAR hard drive. After it renders one frame it trys to save it and it comes back saying "Unable to save file" Do…
I have forwarded this message to Jenee Burns..She would never have read it otherwise. Jenee Burns [70007,3367] Bruce Herzog Forum Staff NY 12-Feb-95 at 8:10a EST
Hartmut, Place both the camera and the camera target on the same path. Next change the target channel so that the target is about a frame ahead of the camera itself. I did this myself so that I could follow a spaceship through an asteriod field. I had the spaceship,…
TO: ALL!!! Jenee, the person responsible for moving our pics to other forums, sent a letter to me in response to a question about the reason for the constant moving. His response stated that the rules of CIS have been recently changed. We can now upload our pics to the…
Thanks for this helping tips … I am from Wuppertal (near Dusseldorf) and using AM for 3 month or so. I have had Strata Studio Pro PC, but after i have got the update, i asked kodiak if i can get AM and they agreed. So AM was not that…
Peter, I wrote you a reply to e-mail, but it disappeared from my HD when I saved it. This isn't the first time this has happened with CIS. I tried sending all mail anyway, and it looked like something was sent, but I don't know what it was. Let me…
Thank you for information Dejan
Hartmut, Do the following:create the path that the camera needs to go in direction. If you are done with that save the cho file. Then remove everything excluding the paths that are supposed to be used. Save this file under a different name and append the original animation into direction…
Michael, You can't seriously mean that, do you? What about us desperate users overseas, that are looking for help and don't have access to the internet or AOL? I agree thAt CI$ has some strange ways to handle things, but I am most glad that via Ci$ I have the…
Dejan, I've forwarded your message to the Forum Librarian. For future reference, you might want to use CIS Mail as the route to post problem files. This is usually a day or two delay when posting files to the forum since they must be virus checked, etc prior to releasing…

Camera-Path
Message #4087
Sometimes it is needed to create a camera-path with the camera looking in the same direction the camera moves. By example, when a walk through a house has to be made. What's the easiest way to create such a camera-path with the target-path? Hartmut
Grady, Hash has a place on AOL that is what this area should be. Michael S. Flynn
I've just recently started using AOL… I might upload a portion ofa n animation I am doing… It is a hallway with a flickering light… It was so easyto achieve with the Channels… Grady III
Steve, I don't like using CIS. I think they are very inconsistant, and do not follow their own policies. If it weren't for the fact that almost everyone that uses Playmation or AM hangs out here, I wouldn't be here. AOL costs less, has higher speed access at no extra…
Figure Substitution
Message #4045
Dear Hash or anybody I'm trying to do an animation of two dancing figures. I used the figure substitution procedure in the A.M. manual, that is, replacing a couple of dummy "Ghosts" with my chosen figures by editing the .fig file. Everything worked great, the new two-character Figure loaded in…
Steve: Drop a line some time and let me know exactly what you are asking for. At the same time, I'd like to know the primary business of Hash Inc. Sincerely, George
CD-Rom based software

Are there any plans for a competitive upgrade or a CD-rom based application of your Animation Master or Playmation for under a $150 like Imagines $99 package.
Mike, Glad you liked the pic! I had a lot of problems with the glass at first, but asked Steve for his advice. With his help I decided on these settings which worked very nicely: color = black Ambience = 20 Trans = 95 Mirror = 0 Spec = 100…

Andrew, I checked out prftab.jpg. That's a really nice piece of work. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that would like your settings for the glass; it's some of the best I've seen. Most of the stuff I do doesn't call for glass like that, so I haven't…
Hi Lee, I should explain …I work in Hollywood. When you apply for a job doing CGI in hollywood, very few people look at you as if you know anything if you tell them you run a PC. The same is true for Mac people in desktop publishing in L.A.…
