Level 2 w MSDOS?
Message #91035
I've got an ISO Level 2 CDROM that I'd like to be able to use on an MS-DOS machine. There's a couple long directory and filenames on the disc that don't work well with MS-DOS. For example, there are directories named like "VEHICLES_LAND" "VEHICLES_AIR" and "VEHICLES_SPACE". These all appear as…

Thank you for response. The problem is evidently EMM386. Any suggestions on what parameters to try. Must have expanded memory.
TELEPHONE CD-ROMS?
Message #52955
There seem to be several telephone CD-ROMS on the market. I am interested in getting one to use with DOS and preferably in a DESQVIEW window. I would appreciate suggestions as to which to get and where to get it, online. Regards, John Ausland/Oslo, Norway
CD-ROM test software?
Message #52921
I use Norton Disk Doctor to check all distribution disks before installing software. Not often, but once in a while, I come across a defective disk and have it replaced. Is there a need to do this with a CD-ROM disc? Is there a reasonably priced util for this? Should…
Mike, Can you give me some more specifics about exactly what you've tried with the 31A driver, and how it is failing? Are you trying to install OS/2 2.1 off of the CD-ROM, or do you already have it installed and you're just trying to add support for the 31A?…
Street Atlas question
Message #52895
Do you know if the Street Atlas USA sold at the Price Club is the latest version? The CDRom is marked ED 1.0 with XMap, I heard they came out with a version that did not work very well and needed to be modified to work properly. Thanks
James, Thanks for taking the time to give me the info. Is there another driver also needed (in addition to MSCDEX)? I assume there must be an ASPI or proprietary driver. How much memory does it take? Does the "single disc" driver come with the drive? How much memory does…
Kevin. FYI the /L is optional, if omitted MSCDEX uses next available drive letter. Glen
Wendell, I have a tosh3401b and PAStudio16 running OS2v2.1 and it works fine. All the drivers you need come with the PAStudio. Good Luck! If you have any other questions, check out the OS2SUP forum. Jerry

Anyone know where this file is not located?
Are you trying to obtain audio through a sound card or from the line out/headphone socket? If you are trying via the sound card have you linked the output from the CD drive to the audio input socket on the sound card? Paul
Randy, Sorry for delay in replying and the fact that I don't have any further details. I've got some German PC magazines but the firm is not listed. Perhaps you could contact the original sender of the forum note? John Stapleford (Belgium)
Robin, MSCDEX increases in size depending on the number of drives letters installed. I don't have EMS so I don't know if it would be smaller with the /E switch. The standard driver makes each disc a seperate drive. There is another driver that will use one drive, but you…
I found it in the OS2USER forum. Unfortunately, allow I have added it to my config.sys I still don't have access to the drive. There are no error messages. It just doesn't work. I suspect that there is something else I have to do.
I would like to receive the driver myself. I tried faxing Totoronik to on avail. I can never get thru. Can ypou help?
Hal, Aaaarrrrgh! 130 kb! How can that be? Are you saying that MSCDEX takes up 130 kb or that there is another driver that goes with the -604 that take up that much? What are your MSCDEX command line switches? I was about to spring for a -604, but I…
Will your driver work with the 8 bit 002 drive? Joe Greer
Sony CD-ROM 7205
Message #52773
I need a driver for OS/2 2.1 For My Sony CD-Rom #7205, Could anyone tell me where i could get one or make one availible if they have it. Does OS/2 2.1 Have Driver updates?
Steven I would make sure that your audio cable from the drive to the controller is pluged in. Even if you don't use the audio out on the back the headphone plug will not work with out it. The cable is a very small cable with four wires. It may…
my brother has the NGME working with sound and vidoe now. the DMA changing didn't help. he went with IRQ 10 for mvsound and miracles upon miracle it now works. i think he has IRQ 3 for the sndbk. anyway, IRQ are the answer for this one. IRQ 5 is…
Bill, I just spent two weeks looking at the same error message trying to install the OS/2 2.1 update from my Creative Labs CD-ROM drive. Don't despair. It will work. You need to download the beta drivers from either the Creative Labs BBS or here on CompuServe in either th…
Brian, what is the name of the file you uploaded and what Library is it in?
Mark, As a first try, change boot files so that that the CDROM driver and MSCDEX are NOT loaded high. Glen
Mark, I'm sorta surprised it works at all; at the least, you need to specify the drive letter for the CDROM with the /L: switch for mscdex. To make the drive respond as E: (presumably, if you have one HDD and are using doublespace from dos6, both C: and D:…

#DOS 6.0 Problems
Message #52685
After I installed DOS 6.0 on my clone (Midwest Micro Elite), my CD software stopped working. Microsoft Library, for example, loads the opening screen and begins to access the drive, but responds to any search that there were no matches for the criteria entered. There are apparently equivalent problems with…
I have the 486-66 with the VESA bus, and you apparently have the EISA bus. I don't know whether my pathto getting the CDU31A running under NT is going to work for you.
I can only guess. You didn't say that you saw the 'MSCDEX' in memory. The DOS 6.0 loadhigh command is strange. On my system, what it does is undefined if the program won't fit into high memory. Sometimes it loads the program low, and sometimes not at all. Try removing…
PS/2 and DOS
Message #52661
I am looking for the appropriate device drivers to connect a Toshiba 3401 CDROM drive with an IBM PS/2 Model 95 and a model 57, running under DOS. The model 95 has an embedded SCSI controller (on the motherboard) and the Model 57 has an IBM MCA SCSI adapter. I…

Hal, You might want to try the DRD608 driver. It lets you use all 6 disc of the 604x as 1 drive letter. You just use the xdisc program to select which disc is active. I don't use EMS so the /e switch doesn't help. The DRD608 driver is on…

PAS & Beethoven
Message #52647
Gary, I'm in a worse fix yet with MM Beethoven – can't get the program to see the CDROM (Pioneer Multiplatter, DRM-604X). Any ideas? Thanks –ed
Thanks Dave, will try (though i hate to give up more real memory). –ed
Jack, You're right about ST:M – though it was not causing problems with Groliers, it did hurt video in some games my daughter likes (esp. Mission to Mars). Current system (after major thrash) is unstable with Stealth anyway… Thanks –ed
Glen, I talked to Groliers tech support, and they recommended changing irq on mvsound.sys line to Q:5. That totally locked my system, and, apparently did something bizarre, perhaps damaging other hardware, as my primary (esdi) harddrive cannot be seen when boot from floppy. Still no sound through the PAS from…
Jorge, I've tried all of the things you suggest – terminations are correct, heads are clean, tapes are tense (G) – but thanks for the thoughts. I haven't tried juggling the order of things on the bus because the particular physical arrangements inside the box are quite constrained, so options…
Brian: I appreciate your concern in correcting the problem quickly. Take care – Rich Bowers, sysop
TODD Enterprises sells the card you need. It is not a SCSI card. The 1503s based on Hitachi's own bus. TODD's number is 800-445-TODD or 718-343-1040
Steve, I used to have problems similar to yours. I don't know excatly which of the following actions fixed the problem, but here is what I did: Open up the Wangtec, make sure the internal cables are properly connected. [A [AUnder DOS (NOT OS/2) use the switch on ASPI4DOS that…
#WIN3.1 % MSCDEX
Message #52623
When I attempt to load a CD-ROM cache (CDSpeedway) using that programs configuration manager, Windows reports "MSCDEX not loaded". When I check the loaded drivers from the DOS prompt within Windows, it shows CDSpeedway loaded high. The MSCDEX is in the autoexec.bat PATH statement. Any ideas? I am using 486/33DX…

Message #52621
When I try to load a CD-ROM cache (CD Speedway) using its configuration manager from within windows, I get a message that says "MSCDEX not loaded", yet when I go to the DOS prompt (still in windows), it shows mscdex loaded high. Anyway I can get Windows to recognize that…
Thanks for the info! I will look into the new drivers –Mark
Cecil, >> When will the FINAL RELEASE of the DRIVER for this CD Drive be released?>Will there be any improvements? What?>Will you post on CIS more detailed information on the installation and use of the current BETA DRIVER? For example, the IFS file, the right version for MSCDEX, and etc.>But,…
Guido, Yes, I received the driver (not beta) last week, and it works great. Eric Veldhuyzen
Steven I have a Mitsumi internal CD ROM drive and am able to play and hear audio CDs using playcd.exe. I would check out the most obvious first. 1) Volume control not set to minimum. 2) Headphone to headphone jack connection OK. If you are still unable to hear your…
#CDPLAY.ZIP
Message #52608
Sorry about the double upload of CDPLAY.ZIP, the first upload had a minor problem. Thanks for your promptness on posting uploads. BB
I just uploaded a file, freshly downloaded from the IBM support BBS, which purports to be a Beta (April, 1993) version of the OS/2 2.1 CD-ROM device driver for the Creative Labs CD-ROM drive. I don't know how well it works, but good luck with it. I plan to install…
