I wish I could answer your questions, but I have an even worse problem than you. I have a Gateway 2000 P5-90. It is a PCI bus computer which wants to help me out by optimizing a few too many things. Your miro DC1-TV card has 16K of RAM (Random…
Many Thanks for the info on APS. Finding good quality sources can sure make life in computerdom alot easier all the best to you, Tom
It's in perfect shape — it has a "hardware" box that contains the computer guts, an Intel 186 chip ( the one that preceded the 286 and, so far as I know never made it into a PC), software on a master tape, a wand to tape to your VCR…

Sony SLV R1000
Message #4065
Anyone have any experience with the Sony SLV R1000. One of the few Control L- SVHS VCRs on the market. No one (dealer) seems to have one in stock. Story I hear is that Sony had some quality control problem with them and they are trying to revamp their manufacturing…
John: Waiting for NAB may well be prudent. They'll be announcements at NAB (and Comdex later in April), including from both of those "low cost champions." Jeff
>> I am not an editor, but our Avid MSP system is trash. If you had visited the BPFORUM or Avid's forums here on CIS a month or two ago, you would have seen me screaming at the top of my lungs the same thing. 🙂 I looked at alternatives,…
yes your right on the difference in cost between DC1 and MAC cards… However, I still wish the Amiga hadn't gone under, since a German company, forgot the name, Developed VLAB MOTION with the lgood LSI chip… audio board, video board, and all software for $1800 and the reports from…
I am not an editor, but our Avid MSP system is trash. We've been looking at the Cube, and I spent close to 6 hours on it. It's a dream. It never crashed, no rendering of DVE effects, or transitions, or audio mixes, or cg overlays, or most anything! VERY…
The cost of the Sony Hi8 SL-V7000 that does PCM audio is in line with the Panasonic 1970. I've just started shooting Hi8 but so far in using two tapes over and over I just don't see the problem with drop outs (there are some) or overall fragility. Anyway, I…
Charles: >I too have a Direct Ed I'd like to sell. $200 takes it.< What shape's it in? What comes w/it? What's your address, and how do you want payment? Thanks, Tim
Have you seen the Mac do much better at Motion-JPEG with a $600 card? The popular Mac cards are MUCH more expensive (they have a much higher performance JPEG chip). – Jan
There are two different JPEG chipsets from LSILogic. The DC1 (and many similar boards) use the cheap one. It's limited to 320×240 or so with a maximum uncompressed RGB data rate of 8 MB/sec (320x240x30fpsx24-bit=6.9 MB/sec). The expensive LSILogic chipset will do 32 MB/sec uncompressed. This chipset is used in…
John: >The issue as I understand it is tape fragility. The VHS/SVHS tape can withstand more abuse than 8mm. BUT the VHS lays down a control track AND sound mixed with video. So audio dub can only be done to the inferior linear track, which is mono I believe. >OTOH,…

Hi John, Thanks for your reply. who is APS. I'm in the market for a 4 GIG drive and am lookin gfor a good dealer. Prices… All the best, Tom
I have a Future Video 3300 and find it quite easy to compose EDL's with it. It's accuracy depends on the VCR's used. Without time code it reads the control track, and this is fairly accurate. Nothing beats time code, however.
I too have a Direct Ed I'd like to sell. $200 takes it.
PMJI, but given what you say about the DC1's limitations with VGA output what are there advantages to paying a few hundred dollars more for ///FAST Movie Machine Pro with M-JPEG option? These are the two I'm considering for a low end NLE setup. I also intend to use online…

Thomas: You've asked a number of questions dealing with differing issues. I'll a little confused as to what you're primary problem is. >> 2) Also, on playback I consistently get substantial frame drops even when I drop no frames during digitization. Why?
John: >The Sony VISCA decks are about the same price as a comparably equipped prosumer Hi8 deck. It makes for yet another decision point in putting together a setup that I'm not sure how to deal with.< Thanks for clarifying! Hmmm…if I understood you properly, you're debating whether or not…
The last issue of Video Pro had a write-up on it. You may want to check it out. wmc – via Autopilot!
Yes, like the CVD-1000 Hi8 Vdeck. Uses native VISCA protocol for more extensive control than LANC. But you can put a Vbox in front of a LANC deck and talk VISCA to it if that's what's required by your setup (hope I don't have this backward). The Sony VISCA decks…
John: >Here's something I'm considering … go with a VDECK for recording. Still uses the 700 for source. … Is this rational or is there another course you would suggest?< I hate to admit my ignorance, but I'm not sure what you mean by a "VDECK" (I had the notion…
How about Intel's card and Premiere 4.0? Seen good remarks about this in MULTIMEDIA forum. -jts
Hi John, I wouldn't buy the DC1tv again, though I think its a fine deal at the price. I want better image quality and with cheaper bigger drives that can handle the data that should be true at a price I can afford soon 9but not now. Word is that…
These are good specific questions that interest me too. I sure hope some guru answers them! I'm considering the Miro too. Would you buy it again or perhaps ///FAST Movie Machine w/M-JPEG option? Thanks. -jts
You're right. I suppose this thread should be split off into a new subject. Thanks. -jts
Yes, that helps. You raise again the very issues I'm trying to come to terms with. Simply put, spend a little now and use the Mitsu forgoing A/B roll (fades except for fades to graphics). Cost only $500. Or put that towards a machine controllable record deck. And get software…
I should have been more clear on the Sony 1000 deck. I think it's SL-R1000 and is an S-VHS editing deck with LANC. Sony also makes a VCD-1000, if that's the right letter … it's a VISCA Hi8 deck. This is not the one I was referring to. Thanks. -jts

Since the GLOCK+ is a genlock board it doesn't capture video. If Fernando wanted to capture Picons for VD 2.0 or capture video for MM apps what board would you recommend? I don't suppose the GLOCK+ and a video caputer/encoder would both work in the same PC would they? Thanks.…
