#192976 #3DS benchmark Message #192995
Rick, wow, we could get really deep into this analysis couldn't we? I'm pretty much satisfied that you're getting most of your performance from the new cache design. Something to consider when buying a new system – ask for the super ruptured pipeline cache . the next step would be…
#192867 #3DS benchmark Message #192879
Rick, I did some more tests on another machine at my office and your times aren't that far out of line. I suspect your cache type is reponsible for a slight 4-10% speed increase over my system. I remember Gary Yost saying that that new cache design could boost performance…

#select/deselect faces Message #192857
From: MARTIN G FOSTER Autodesk Multimedia Forum · Scripts September 27, 1995 2:02 PM
can one select/deselect faces with the PXP tse? I'd like to select 30% (then 70%) of the leaves in a Schreiber tree for deletion – maybe just go ahead and delete them without the selection. PXP sounds like the ticket for such a job. Can it do that? TIA.
#anistud and NT? Message #192856
will the new release 1.1 run under Windows NT? I don't plan on getting Win95 ever. I'm running NT 3.51 with the Win95 shell and would be interested in the upgrade only if it will run in NT. TIA.

#192687 #3DS benchmark Message #192719
Rick, I think that you should have Metal shading on. Those results are out-of-line with what one would expect from a Pentium 100.
#192670 #3DS benchmark Message #192718
Terry, I favour the idea of a second system for sending test renders to and a dual-processor would probably fit the bill. Don't buy anything yet since everything will change by the time MAX sees the light of day.

I did the 2 tests on my generic brand Intel chipset m/board Pentium 90 w/32mb ram: 1024×768 all on EXCEPT mapping, pixel 1.1, no display, no save — 2:33 640×480 all on, pixel 1.1, no display, no save — 1:48 (faster than a comparable Micronics based system I had by…
#192546 Hard Drives, etc. Message #192553
Mark, PMJI, but could you give me some (very) ball-park prices for Alpha motherboards featuring the fastest processors. I'm interested in single and multi-proc boards – I've heard around $3k for a single 300mhz m/board. You can e-mail me if you like but I don't think a vague ballpark should…

Chris, I already gave you all the phone numbers I have – 4dvision (formerly Schreiber) 800-252-1024. You could ask about student discounts, but don't hold your breath.
#192365 #3DS benchmark Message #192373
everybody, you should all make sure you post your pixel size (typically 1.1 to 1.5) because this really has an effect on speed.

Mitch, there's only 3 places I know of where the e: drive would be looked for: 1) 3ds.set 2) 3dsnet.set 3) 3ds.exe's pharlap configuration I'm guessing #2 might have a reference to e: Try searching it.

Chris, sounds like you are looking for a freebie – I can't help you there, but I can suggest either 4D-Vision's (formally Schreiber) nursery if you have lots of RAM or Yost's Silicon Garden for lower ram usage trees. Other than that search the internet or build your own -…

Continuation of last message #191640, I just uploaded the pseudo-code for converting camera roll/tilt/pan cameras to .vue file. The file: mov2vue.txt (I think) should appear in the libraries shortly (maybe tomorrow). Have fun!

Ian, I just uploaded (last night) my vue2key.k3d script. It's the part that converts camera data in the .vue file to keyframes – the easy part . I'm going to bug the senior programmer for some sample code or pseudo-code for the more complicated .mov to .vue process.

Mark, thanks for the useful info. Be sure to ask about double buffering when you are talking to glint/3d board makers. It's pretty important to have it to get smooth animation in shaded modes. shame about the P6 multi-procs. I'm going to talk to Intel about this.
