But I think of the screen as the paper, no? There is a very good book on Media Aesthetics by a guy named Herbert Zettl. He has written the most famous book on TV production, and his Media Aesthetics book refers to the depth axis as the Z-axis.
System crash: PC Imagine
Message #61110
Mike, I have had another series of abnormal program terminations with Imagine 2.0. All crashes have occurred during rendering. If rendering to .flc file, file corruption occurs, resulting in crosslinked files and lost clusters. Here is the exact sequence of the last crash. Rendering the Porsche in a 100 frame…
Loaded A3000
Message #108875
Amiga 3000 25mhz. One floppy drive. Two hard drives: 50 meg quantum and brand new 345 meg Fuji SCSI. 16 MEGS (!) of 32 bit fast ram. 2 megs of chip ram. Latest roms. Workbench 2.1. 200 watt power supply. Case can accomodate original version Toaster cards. $1900 includes shipping…
>If you really feel that way, where is my check? :^) In the mail, as always! I did my A3000 transplant just fine only to find out that if I had been willing to wait, I could have stuck the new 4000 in there with no hassle. But I guess,…
Toaster for sale
Message #108709
I have an almost new Video Toaster with the 3.0 software for sale. $1175 plus shipping and c.o.d. charge. Please leave private e-mail if you are interested.
Thanks for the Imagine tips. I was deluged with good advice. Hopefully my feeble mind will do something useful with all the good info. BTW, I sent you private mail about my problem with Ron. All problems have been resolved but I am still a little ticked at NewTek.
Rick, I copied the tips on Imagine's path to disk for later review and learning. Thanks a lot. BTW, on what basis does Mike think the depth axis should be labeled Y instead of Z? Is there some esoteric branch of math that graphs 3D space this way?
Jeff thanks for the tips on Imagine. I have been having many crashes on my PC version of Imagine 2.0. I hope 3.0 is more stable. Everything I do eventually ends up in DCTV 3 or 4 bitplane anims, so your tips about generating DCTV frames makes a lot of…
Thanks, John. I saved the answer to disk. Slowly but surely I am getting the hang of it.
Well, you are right, I am sure, John, but still Creative has a lot of gall selling something that they advertised for $899 just one month before for $1695 (albeit with 4 mighty megs added). Kind of reminds me of the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.
[>] thing holding you back is refinement on the interface and manual. If I wanted to make it tough on myself, I would have used POV-RAY.

Mike, I got your address. Now we can communicate better. I posted my first message to some unknown Impulse person. In the meantime, thanks to Tony Ramirez, I am actually creating animations. First of all, let me compliment you on a very powerful and reasonably priced product. Just so you…
I called Creative. It was enough to take my breath away. $1695 (!) for the Mercury 35 mhz with 4 megs of ram. I will wait until PP&S wises up and runs another load of them. It is bound to happend eventually.
John, I own a copy of Steve's book but I'm letting a poor amiga buddy of mine borrow it for the moment to get him inspired. Thanks for the tip.
Tony, thanks, as always. Even though I truly can't afford CI$ (it is a long distance call from Dover, DE), it is guys like you that make it worth the cost. T: I am going to assume you need ALOT of help, ok? Hoo boy, you are on my wavelength.…
#Imagine problems
Message #60835
Okay, I have a few questions for you. #1. I am using Imagine 2.0 on the PC and the Amiga. I have just started with the PC version. I am running DOS6, emm386.exe not in use, dblspace in use. Computer is 486-33 clone. Problem: After a session of rendering with…
#Imagine starts working!
Message #60778
I moved this thread from the NewTek forum over to hear. Peter, thanks for getting me going. I finally got to page 172 in the Imagine manual and found out that I had to click on the "NEW" button in the project editor window to get to the output choices.…
Hmm, well, I just bought a used Toaster 2.0 about a month ago for $1400 and now I am faced with the same upgrade choice that you have. Given that I paid $1400, I don't feel too bad. I reason that I can get the new board and software for…
>T-Rexx will do this trivially. Okay, but I wish that it would take the job more seriously .
John thanks for the further help. I have 16 megs of ram, so I should be okay. I think my fingers are too fumble prone to load and fade all this manually. Also thanks for advice on the accelerator.
I will see what I have in my settings under fiel format. I think I have rendering method now set to "scanline" and file format to DCTV, but when it chucks up the image, it is HAM.
>I called GVP and PPS and >neither are making 3000 accelerators any more. Creative has none of
#Snappy framestores?
Message #60662
I have this little job that I am doing for a non-profit outfit in town here and I need to be able to load and fade between a series of 7 or 8 framestores in 30 seconds, direct to tape. In other words, fade up from black to DV1, fade…
#Whoops
Message #60661
Peter, I figured part of my problem out. Rendering method was supposed to be scanline, right? But still with DCTV at the "quickrender preset, I do not get DCTV output at the end of a quickrender. Is there some way to do this?
Peter says: 30 minutes per frame rendering times lately. And this is for a 5100 frame Anim, I am NOT happy. Well, I have Imagine 2.0 and when those guys say "Quickrender" I say, "How slow???" Seriously, I have a question for you about using Imagine. I keep playing with…

I am looking at accelerating my A3000 to 040. Is there any better game than the GVP card with its $900+ price tag? (Hell, at that price, I could sell the 3000 and buy a 4000) And will an accelerator in the 040 take a zorro slot or does it…

Message #108005

DCTV for sale

#DCTV/RBG for sale
Message #107535
I have an almost brand new DCTV/RGB combination for sale. You can generate 24 bit paint files and view them on your regular 1084 monitor. If you have the right software (Imagine, others), you can also with a little finesse generate real time 24 bit anim files. $350 includes shipping…
Tom, Iknow you guys would like to get all excited about Montage hitting the stores, but I need to make a more down-to-earth suggestion. You guys need to focus on a multi-tasking version of BT that will work with genlocks like the G-lock. BT is a great product (the best…

#Toaster in a 3000
Message #59146
I have just bought a used Toaster with the 2.0 software. I have installed it in an Amiga 3000 by cutting the back of the case of the 3000 with tin snips to make room for the #1 input. I did not upgrade the power supply of the 3000 and…

Joe, I am not sure what your question is, but here goes… I am porting my .TGA files generated in 3D Studio over to the Amiga and converting them to 24 bit DCTV anims. My video card for the 486 is a Cirrus Logic Vesa Local Bus card that cost…
>No, I wrote the documentation for versions .9 and 1.0. –Rick Then we can speak freely . That 2.0 manual is quite an interesting book. But it is not a manual for 2.0. I did get Steve Worley's book and I am now actually beginning to understand the program. Since…
Rick, I can corroborate your findings on 3D Studio vs Imagine. I run 3DS on a 486-33 vlb and I have Imagine on an Amiga 3000 25. Both machines have 16 megs of ram (and of course the Amiga has an additional 2 megs on Agnus while the 486-33 has…
Wayne, I may get back to you when the drive arrives. I took you up on your advice about the power supply. I ordered a new 200 watt one for the A3000 from a company in Nebraska. Thanks for the help.
Jim, thanks. The whole machine is coming open this week for some surgery — A Toaster 2.0 implant! So at that time, I will see what I can do with that fuse. Thanks so much for your time and kind consideration.
James, Once again you are my guru (and I don't mean a software bug ). Thanks so much for the tip on the Fuji drive and HD International. I hope they are as helpful to me as they were for you. I got a great deal on the drive (345…

Thanks, Jim. If you figure out the location of those fuses, I would appreciate a buzz from you. I have the schematics in the back of the 3000 manual but that is one tough read for non-rocket-scientists. I guess if I can replace a the clock battery on a 386…
