2.3.0 install freeze
Message #60830
>Is this the second time you asked this question? I think I just answered >it someplace else??? Sincere apologies. My Autopilot apparently hiccupped and posted it twice. > Anyway, please give tech support a call for help through the dpaint >loader problem. As for the PCP update, it is included…
#2.3.0 install freeze
Message #60160
My Hard Drive crashed, so I'm trying to reinstall ADPro. Problem is, my v.2.3.0 disks won't work. More specifically, the installer script gets up to installing the Dpaint driver and freezes forever. I don't know enough about the script to mess with it myself, but I'd appreciate any help or…
The International Television Association (ITVA) may be an existing alternative. It's focus is non-broadcast/industrial video. It's membership includes in-house corporate, educational, medical, etc., AV depts, as well as freelance/commercial producers, directors, editors, graphics artists, lighters, etc. It does not focus on *computer* video specifically, but on industrial business video in…
#Mac Emulator? (EMPLANT?)
Message #75159
I'm looking for information on the EMPLANT and/or other macintosh emulators for the Amiga. Does anyone have a text file, or e-mail address, or phone/address for more info? I've checked out the libraries here already. Thanks for your help. Steven J. Koster Compuserve: 72020,3342 Calvin College Video Productions Internet: kosts@calvin.edu
Sunrize Opinions?
Message #21511
I've been seeing impressive claims for Sunrize's Amiga audio editor which is designed for video post production. Since spec sheets can say only so much, my simple question is: For those video pros who've actually tried this board, does it work as good it claims to? Is the audio clean?…
Ok, so Amiga Unix can't run concurrently with AmiDos. And it's version XXX, and is $xxx. So, what's the point? What is Amiga Unix *for*? I use unix a little in a SUN station at my college, mostly for Internet access. But I'm fairly unimpressed. So, what would be the…
#Rcommend Amiga Database!
Message #61044
QUICK! I need some recommendations on a Database program for the Amiga! For those experienced in Data management on the Amiga Platform, I need to know what Database programs are worth using. Which ones are easy, powerful, helpful, professional, economical, etc. The urgency is from the end-of-budget-year syndrome :-).
ProPack formats & price
Message #36364
What formats are included in the Pro Conversion Pack? (Or any other extra pack for that matter.) I'm interested in transferrring IBM and Mac generated graphics into my Toaster for video work (corporate logos, etc.) I haved ADPro already, but could use TIF, EPS, PICT modules. Also, could you give…
I'm using a Videomedia VLC-32, which is their high-end edit controller. RGB Computer & Video sells a similar edit controller called AmiLink. It uses some of the same hardware from videomedia, but it works inside the Amiga itself and has direct access/interface with the Toaster. Nevertheless, I suspect most edit…
#JPEG = on all Platforms?
Message #16716
COuld someone tell me if JPEG is its own file format? I know JPEG is a compression scheme, but is a JPEG file the same from platform to platform like a .gif or .tif? For example, if my client has a .TIF logo on his Macintosh, can he JPEG it,…
I'm using a Toaster as a Post-production switcher in an A/B roll, TC based, 3/4" & S-VHS system. My edit controller fires a GPI to activate a toaster transition at the right time. I've quite happy with the setup, and 2.0 will help make the whole thing more stable. Now…
How Quit LW 2.0??
Message #35490
I received 2.0 and have one question. I've searched the nice new manual, but cannot find a definitive answer. The question is: How do you *quit* Lightwave??? The switcher button is obvious, and the shift-click works for Modeler, but how do I quit and unload Lightwave completely??
2.0 disk space reqrmnts
Message #34602
How much disk space will the 2.0 upgrade require on my HD? I've heard the 30Meg figure mentioned–will I really have to devote 30M to toaster software?
When I ordered my upgrade (1st week of January) I was told "towards the end of the month." While I expect this means before February 1st, it might mean "the end of the month, but we won't mention which month we're talking about ." Supposedly the release is late because…
I don't know how much a 7750 costs off-hand. I'm sure your local Panasonic dealer would tho'. As for editing software/hardware, well, there's a *lot* of possibilities. You could look into RGB computer & Video's AmiLink, which runs in the Amiga with the toaster, but I think it would costs…
#ADPro/Dpaint imcompat
Message #31504
I've been having difficulty loading ADPro saved images into DPaintIV. I don't know if it's a fluke or a bug in one of the programs. Generally, I load a 24-bit IFF (From toasterPaint) into ADPro and save it as 16-color IFF for DPaint. When I load it in DPaint, it…
I'm using a 7750 with a toaster, and it seems to work fine. If I were rebuilding my system from scratch, I'd probably buy several–their built-in TBCs aren't the best ever, but they do an adequate job. I would suggest using a simple black burst generator to establish a common…
Yeah, I previewed at the first set of keys, made the changes, previewed again (and watched 20 frames of nothing as the objects went the wrong way behind the camera). I looked at it from another viewpoint and figured out what was going on, deleted and reset the keys (no…
The first key/frame I use in the animation is #1. When I loaded the objects they of course began at 0,0,0 in frame 0. I left them there and moved them to the right positions in frame #1 and created a key for everything, since frame #1 is the first…
#LW ghost key hassle
Message #29023
Mr. Mooose, I have a true-to-life technical question (refreshing, huh?). Anyhoo, When using Lightwave, I animated an object to begin behind the camera and slide out and twist into the picture (much like the intro letters on the "Revolution" tape). But, since my letters were some distance behind the camera…
Alpha4 discussion?
Message #38059
Where is Alpha4 discussed most regularly? I've been using it for a few years, but would like to sit in on others discussions, or even get support from Alpha directly. Is this the place to be?
Pixel3D will take a 2D image and automatically "trace" it, converting it into a 3D object of points and lines, suitable for use in Lightwave, TurboSilver, Imageine, etc.
HELP! r/w error on HD
Message #15015
My Amiga crashed during a download, and now gives a system error when booting that says "Volume work (a partition on my hard drive) has a read/write error" and "volume work could not be validated." I have had this happen before on floppies, but don't know what to do about…
I tried that, but still got an illegal instruction error. What exactly does my disk in the MS-DOS drive have to have on it? Is it supposed to be a system disk with command.com, autoexec.bat, and a dos directory?
I had the same problem–IBeM000 and CrossDos dev–a I also have been unable to get any results except errors.
I can't give you a comprehensive list of Amiga video products, but I can tell that I've been using an amiga for a feww years in an industrial/educational setting. I think your first step should be a definition of "desktop" video. Does desktop include using a computer (amiga) as a…
Toaster Crashes
Message #22346
Mr. Mooose–I'm having trouble with my 1.0 version of the Toaster. For one, it succesfully loads from the workbench about half the time. Sometimes I have to reboot the whole machine 5 times before it loads. It usually flashes like usual for a time until it stops on a gray…
Toaster1.0 crashes often
Message #22035
My Toaster has the nasty habit of meditating with a Guru every time I try to talk to it. I hate it when the machine just sits there with its legs crossed and says "ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmmm." It has been particularly bad since I received the new software. I have been using…
GURU Interpret Questions
Message #8168
I have some questions about the GURU interpreter program "Alert." I DL'd it a while ago, but never used it too much because I couldn't get the CLI window to close once it started. (I was also pretty new to Amigas) I recently DL'd NEWALE.ZOO, but it seems to be…
Where & when do I aim my dish? Are there subscription fees, scrambling, etc.? If the reply is too commercial leave a private message. Thanks
No I don't. I'm just beginning to experiment with amiga music, and haven't found anything like that. I did find a program called MED (music editor) which is a very handy PD program, but I don't think it will load DMCS or Sonix stuff. Works with Soundtracker Mods tho'.
Sound/Intui Tracker
Message #2384
Betty, could you give me some information on Intuitracker? I have DL'ed something like it from a local BBS, but all the info given in the docs is "if you don't know how to use it, call your friend who does. That's what friends are for."
Fear not, young one. Amiga video is alive and well. I am using my Amiga in industrial/education level production all the time. Moreover, NewTek IS NOW SHIPPING the long awaited video Toaster. What an amazing machine–every report I read on the gizmo details some new and profound capability. I hope…
#Toaster Software Prices
Message #18882
Is the price of the Paint and 3D software for the Toaster in addition to the $1600 for the card, or is it included?
#Amiga / DOS
Message #115658
Could you tell me this–How do I specifically ask for my internal floppy drive in a mount list? Is it determined my unit #, Device name (i.e. MessyDisk.device or HDDisk.device) or a combination? Also, is dos 2 Dos more intuitive than MessyDos or CrossDos? Thanks, -SJK
Betty, I dl'd MessyDos, but I've been having trouble getting it to work. I modified my MountList according to the sample provided, and made sure the MessyFileSystem and MessyDisk.device were abvailable, but I can't mount a Messy Device. I'm trying to use my internal 3.5" drive, so I assigned it…
#PCPatch 3.5/MS-DOS
Message #115282
Can Anyone tell me about the PCPatch program in the toolbox? I dl'd it and tried it, but it won't format disks. It starts, but before it finishes the first track it says !error -4!. The doc gave no explanation. Any ideas or better ways to read/write/transfer amigados & MSDOS?…
Font Survey
Message #36913
I dl'd yer fonts, so here's yer answers: 1. Amiga 2000 2. 3MB RAM w/fat agnus, 40Mb HD (2091a card) 3. 15 Fonts or so. Definately want more for video graphics work. 4. Yes, Iuse color fonts. I Intend to purchase more if I can find them. 5. Senate fonts…
I don't know about Turbo Silver in particular, but I have been told that the 2091 card cannot save overscan files when an overscan picture is being *displayed*. Whenever I try, the system freezes and crashes. I was also told the solution is to go to a non-overscan screen and…
Could you send me some info on your fonts? I'm just starting to look for fonts for professional video production, and yours seem to be well recommended. Thanx -SJK
Mr. Moose, You may have misunderstood my question. I am *not* wondering if the Toaster will control VCRs–I already have an editing system to do that. I am wondering if the Toaster can be *controlled* by my editing system. Can it simply be told by another computer what to do…
#Toaster Control
Message #17517
I have two questions. 1. Will the toaster be able to accept control commands from and editing system much as a Grass Valley 100 or Videotek Prodigy would (accepting key, cut, dissolve, etc. commands on a serial port)? In other words, can I use it as a post-production SEG? 2.…
2090A/Overscan Problem?
Message #108643
I recently read that the 2090A HD interface will not, for some reason, save overscan files. In fact, trying to do so could corrupt the entire drive. IS THIS TRUE?!!? I am developing a 2000 with a 2090A drive for video applications, and this little tidbit spells T R O…

Video Toaster (again)
Message #33791
I work for Calvin College in Grand Rapids. We're a small (4000 students) Christian Liberal Arts college. We produce and edit on S-VHS and 3/4" U-matic. I use the two formats interchangably. I don't have the equipment (yet) to maintain S-video throughout the chain, but IMHO, S-VHS looks as good…
Does the Super Gen 2000S have S-video outputs? Does it look good? And could you be more specific about that software?
Don't worry. I have no real intentions of throwing out my Super Gen. But doesn't the Toaster gen lock the Amiga to an incoming video signal? If it does, then it should be easy to integrate it into a cuts only editor. If not, well…..that would be bad. Not to…
I'm using a Super Gen (SG-10) from Progressive Image Technologies. Am I correct in assuming that since the Toaster is a SEG and all that it will gen lock the Amiga and therefore I can throw my Super Gen away? BTW, I'm sure glad you guys are around. I'm so…
#Video Toaster (again)
Message #33234
[CONTINUED] (sorry for the jump in Sections here. I'm still trying to figure out CS Information Manager.) Anyway, This all has to do with the toaster because, when it comes out, we supposedly have the money ready and waiting for it. And, if all our upgrades solve our errors, I…
#Video Toaster (again)
Message #33232
Gee Mark, since you asked, I'll tell you my long and sorry story. I work in a small liberal arts college in Michigan as a video producer. Last year, the college purchased an Amiga 2000 with a 2090 Hard drive and a Super Gen gen lock for use by our…
Video Greetings
Message #33169
Hi There! I'm a new member here and I saw your name & interests on the member directory. I'm trying to develop our Amiga 2000 into a high-level video graphics work station, but it's turning into a major lesson in computercomputereese. At any rate, I thought I'd give greetings from…
