#58907 Commodore stock Message #58953
From: Dave Lipshutz AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors July 26, 1989 9:52 AM
Commodore stock is down because the company issued a press release stating that they were expecting a loss for the June quarter. This loss, if you read into the release a bit, ought to be no more than 30 cents a share or so. The official statement was that for…

You may be smiling soon…if what was in the editorial section of Info magazine is true. According to info, in their rumours section… , and with all the proper disclaimers attached….it says that Hewlett Packard has discussed Commodore as an acquisition target. The name has come up several times, and…

Commodore, in my opinion, has a broad range of opportunities, and doesnt NEED technology advances as much as it needs respectability and better marketing distribution and support. What you mention is necessary but wont mean squat unless marketing improves. Why is the Amiga selling overseas now? They have marketing and…

Ethan… No one really knew the dollar WOULD drop. If everyone KNEW that the dollar would drop, it wouldnt have risen in the first place. I work on wall street, and everyone I knew thought the dollar would go through the roof. Commodore deals in a dozen or more currencies.…

Sales were up 5% in the March quarter in DOLLAR terms, after currency translation and adjustments. If the dollar had stayed flat with the previous year, sales would have been up probably around 10-15%. The higher the dollar, the same number of marks is worth less.

Commodores announcement was unexpected. But my opinion is that things should be back on track soon. The dollar did rise strongly, and affected sales in DOLLAR terms, but the german mark is back down now, to around 186 from its high of 210. The reason the dollar had been so…

Ray, Peter Lynch heads up the Fidelity Magellan fund. He really has nothing to do with any of the others. Fidelity International has a large block of Commodore, so basically we can already tell that he himself was not responsible for the full 7.3% position. Perhaps the "screwy" advertising and…

FMR does not do takeovers, and in order to do a takeover, that assumes someone is interested in doing a takeover. Neither Apple nor COMPAQ have been taken over, nor were they taken over when they were much smaller and much more vulnerable. I dont think that the PC industry,…

There are different fidelity funds, probably about 10 or more, each managed by different people. The 7.3% stake is most probably a result of different portfolio managers reaching the same opinion. Id say anyone who buys 2+ million shares of a given stock CERTAINLY singled it out.
