DOOM is playable, but it is slow. The emulation was never designed to be a high speed game machine… if it had been designed for this purpose we would have taken a completely different approach.

Mark's 486DX2 is a 66Mhz DX2 with 256K cache, VESA, etc… it is a screamer (it beats our 66Mhz Gateway machine hands down). MSD does not ID Pentium processors (at least the version with DOS6.2 doesn't). SysChk looks at the machine status bytes to determine the processor type and performs…

You have to remember that the memory on a stock A4000/040 is only 18% the speed of equiv. CPU'd MAC (Quadra 900)! Using a Warp Engine at even the same Mhz can result in a 4-5 times increase in performance.

Using a Retina Z3 and a Warp40/40, we can play LARGE size QT movies at full frame rate, something that PowerMACs have problems doing. I don't see screen refresh as a problem.

EMPLANT's setup program does not alter ANY memory pointers. I will ask Erik about this problem (he has an EMPLANT himself). If VLAB is not seeing all of the memory, then they are not using proper programming. Thanks for pointing this out.

What CD-ROM driver and CD-ROM drive are you using? If the scanner works, that verifies the SCSI interface itself is working. I would say the driver software is the culprit… or termination.
#Amax IV and GVPscsi Message #167509

You won't be able to use AMAX IV's SCSI manager support with any device that accesses the SCSI at low level (which is most all CD-ROM drives, ALL SCSI scanners, SCSI printers, SCSI film recorders, etc.) This is why I put a real MAC SCSI interface on the EMPLANT hardware.

You can NOT convert one type of disk into another.. 400K, 800K, and 1.44mb disks all use different directory structures… the result is that any file exceeding the length of what will fit into an allocation block will be unusable. You could use MultiOSFileSystem and mount the floppy on the…

A 320×200 256 color screen has little DMA (Direct Memory Access) contention. A 640×480 256 color screen has 87% DMA contention. DMA contention is where the CPU is held off the bus (made in active) while video data is updated on the screen. This happens 60 times per second. The…

The MAC's normal video mode is 640×480. VGA is 320×200, so there is less than 1/4 of the data to manipulate, meaning that at very least, the video will be 4 times faster… also, in 320×200 mode there is VERY LITTLE DMA contention, which is the single most limiting factor…
