I could not agree with you more. Personaly I don't use macros. Cut and paste work fine . I once looked at a program that was (I'm guessing) 80 to 90 percent macros. Totaly un-good to me. I like straightforward lots of comments at the start of a module and…
Thanks I will keep plugging away. I guess in my case my work has never been all that brilliant but… I get it done and it works Keep on pluggin
Fail Safe! Whew scary movie… And no killer aliens in it.
Ok so let me see if I understand. ICDs gadget will let me operate 640*400 in 16 colour mode un-interlaced? That would be great.
One thing that Amiga MAchine Language did was clue me in to what was really happening But I tend to agree that as it stands it's a perfect example of how not to program a large application correctly. They sure make those Includes cryptic! Whats the point (is my point)
Ok Jim, Thanks much for your reply. I will make my conversion a lot "cleaner" Best to you and yours.
Search! Ok will do. Thanks!
I found that out right away . Well I don't have a problem with having lots of Includes. In fact I think it's great. However I also think its stupid to "hide" things (if thats the only reason) to make things any more obscure than they have to be. The…
#Searching .i files
Message #39286
I've been plowing thru the work of converting my program. I wonder if there is a tool that can scan all my includes looking for the right one? I may have exaplained that badly. Lets say I want an equate for OPEN. Which .i file do I use? "I" have…
Uhhh.. Ok so the include files will have them. Stupid me! I just assumed this was all C structures. Ok, I'm using the Devpac3.0 kit and used to use A68K. I've got my Old Developer stuff from 2.0 days (I hear we are up to 3.0 now?!?) The Abacus book…
My thanks! I'm not sure I understand. Is there and equate file for example that knows that MEMF_CLEAR is = $0100? Thats really that part that got me veged out. The doc (that I can find) never get around to what the values are. And I suspect that I am…
#DiskReads & Size?
Message #39264
Another AmigaDos question. I am porting over the part of the program that reads in a disk file into a 16K buffer. I understand that I can set my block size to 16K and just keep reading. Question is how do I get the files total size? I guess I…
#ECS to 31Khz how?
Message #130143
Hi I am reserecting my 2000 for a programing job. I wonder if anyone can help me with a stupid question. I want my machine to come up in 640*400 noninterlaced mode. I do have ECS and can figure out how to do it. I'm trying to use a 31Khz…
#AllocMem quest.
Message #39255
Hi folks. More dumb-o questions. I'm trying to grab some memory from the system. The call that makes some sense is AllocMem Correct? The sample in Abacus Amiga Machine Language has an error. It uses A6 twice (one after the other) I "think"it means to load the Mode into D1.…
Thanks I will! I got over the no totaly nothing stage a few hours ago and started to remember some of the things I almost knew back when I got started in Amiga'in
Boot in 31KHZ?
Message #39233
Hello again. I have the ECS chipset and wonder what tricks (if any) are needed to get it in 31Khz mode and keep it there. ie it boots in this mode (or very soon afterward). Thanks for letting me ask another dumb question. You guys are great!
I was trying to use AMIGA.LIB so hummm I will have to re think the whole thing. This always happens to me when I do a switch from one machine to the other. I'm always sure that everything is broken and its just a short between the headphones. BTW I…
Ahh of course. I looked thru the manual enough to find the one paragraph info on the demo's and figured that was it! I kind of thought it was cockpit trouble…. The Blink I'm having problems with it the downloaded one. I will retry with Devpacs tomorrow and see what…
#Help!
Message #39226
Hi folks, I'm working on a programing project for the Amiga (first is a long while) and I'm having cockpit troubles. At first I was going to use A68K and Blink. Then I decided to splurge and buy DEVPAC 3. I got it and reinstalled my 2.05 system (to be…
Yes thats the problem thanks for the letter tho. I'm muddling thru it….
I converting some code to run on the amiga and I was having major problems understanding how it worked. The author of the original code clued me in and told me afterward. Don't sweat not getting fractions with binary numbers. If I don't work with them for a while I…
Funny you should say that. I coming in from the cold so to speak also. There is still the same old source files in the download area
#Bin Fractions
Message #39128
I'm having a major bad hair day trying to understand binary fractional numbers… Anyone have words of enlightnment? Thanks.
They are very good but I can see why they don't appeal to the mainstream. Very technical but not geared to a specific computer. Now if the cover said Dos 6.02 compatable of course every zombie would own the set. And probably not notice that it never mentions MSDOS at…
Which explains why my circle of friends have not heard of them
You are only the third person who has even HEARD of this series of books. Excellent book tho a tad dry. I used it to set up my dual liked memory lists. Great stuff.
Program code.
Message #39001
Is there are place to look for program in discriptive form. Thats not the right word but I can't think of the correct one. You know a detailed explanation of how to do a bubble sort. Not C source or Assembly but the hows of a program. Right now there…
Good luck. And don't get discouraged. "I" would but I'm also vegged out.
I've been thru some of this in the past. The TI34010 is a graphics processor. You can get complete data books from Texas I. Look in the local yellow pages for a TI rep and they will be glad (I think) to send one (or more) out to you. Now…

Looking for a speed up card for my amiga 2000. Cost is a important factor.
No I have not. Can you tell me more? Does the Elan Invision software work with the A squared hardware by chance? That would be terrific.

Hi Freddy. My wife taught in your country and really REALLY loved it. She is always telling me I have to go . Anyhow I'm quite interested in DSP as well. I have an application in mind but don't quite know where to start. I would like to feed some…
Grabbing screen help.
Message #47983
This may seem totaly dumb. I upgraded to 2.0 and the newer version of AVT. How do I grab pix? When I try all I end op grabbing (or having the option of grabbing) is the Workbench screen. I know this is somthing dumb that I'm doing but I can't…

FASTEST Ram clearing?
Message #26825
Whats the bestest fastest way to clear a large block of memory in 68K? Its larger than 64K (for sure). Do you guys (or gals/whatevers) think the scheme using multipal registers set to zero and "saving" them on a register (stack like) is the best? What are your ways? THANKS!
No line numbers? Ack! What do you do about error messages. Syntax error in line 1082 could get a mite tiffy. How about a MACRO key? Those are the two MUST haves for me. Oh and multiple files open. So you can cut and paste. The old TxEd works "ok"…
Ben I can make some up for you. They can be VERY large. However I can make them in a smaller demension. Tell me what to send (and where)
Hi Ben, What CD rom is it on? The GRIPS disc? I just picked up a drive for the (uggh) IBM. I use one for some mundane things. The grips disk has some nice things on it I wonder if thats what you are talking about?
Your comment brings up a request I have had for YEARS. Why WHY W H Y! won't someone make an assembler that lets you make a list file with cycle times (as an option). Then you can look over the code and make informed decisions. Looking it up in a…
You might NOT want to do a lot of disassembly. If you do you might get the idea that this or that is the way that its supposed to be. Make up \your own mind (at first) and form some opinions. Then try to find some different code and REMEMBER!!!…
My advise is don't worry how it "looks" and TRY to avoid overly cute programs. This alone will help you a LOT! I think that the first example is just fine. I couln't be much more clear as to what you are doing. And as far as taking up program…
2.0 Upgrade wanted!
Message #20244
Hi I'm looking for a dealer that has a 2.0 upgrade kit for the 2000. Both of my local dealers have been blowing me off for months. This is getting weird! EMAIL me your Phone and lets do biz!
sorry that did'nt help. It should have worked. I do believe that if the device did not work you should have gotten an error from SCSI tools. Say did you partition the drive from within tools ok? Try checking to see if it "remembered" it was partitioned all right.
I talked to my mfg and we had a long disc on sending back bizzaro codes for scsi inquiry. Naughty! Looks like a new rev before they ship. Thanks for you help! As always anything I can do please call.
#HDTOOLS Error/Help?
Message #24076
Hi I have a question about HDTOOLS. When I try to read the parameters of a new drive we are thinking of marketing we get the messageUNIT IS NOT A DISK (TYPE 7). Ok there is a dip switch that lets us switch between type 0 and 7 and I…
Use HDTOOLS to define a new drive. Read the drive parameters. If this fails try entering the info yourself from the mfgs spec sheet. Then PARTITION the drive from HDTOOLS. When you PARTITION it you will have to name it somthing. Lets say you name it HD0. Quit HDTOOLS and…
A seperate shack sounds kinda nifty. I also like the upstairs idea. Personaly I hate basements. I was forced to live in one for a looooong time and always opt for the clouds. But airconditioning may be a MUST. Yes the dirty so and so's on 325 (or was it…
