#Breaking glass w/Explode
Message #197044
I'm trying to do something I thought would be relatively simple using Yost #4's "Explode" AXP IPAS routine: shatter a portion of a piece of glass as if it were hit by a rock, and retain realistic gravity and obtain pieces that are of various sizes to simulate how a…
Thanks, very much!
#3DE.EXE (?)
Message #196005
I can't seem to find the "3DE.EXE" file mentioned in my docs in any of the 'logical' directories/libraries – i.e. 1, 3, or 7. Where is this located?
I suppose you're right … I'll give 'im a ring!
#Release 4.0 upgrade ?
Message #131234
If'n I still haven't received an offer to upgrade my copy from 3.0a to 4.0, how should I act? … My dealer is out of Columbia, S.C. and I'm in the hamlet of Mount Pleasant outside Charleston, but even out here I figure I should have gotten a mailing by…
I have, Chuck – unfortunately, none of the *.FLC files were created with the 1.0.4 version, so I don't find anything that applied to me – did I miss it? (I'll read it again, just to be sure…) I immediately had to go backwards to the 1.0.3 version becuase of…
hmmm… I'm sure I will sooner or later, but after examining the flyer it looked like "DEFORM" was more what I was after, although having both would be nice, of course! I'll purchase the rest soon, I'm sure (if I want to do any serious work, I'll need 'em!)…
yes, after playing around with it for a day, I got pretty much a 'good start', as noted in my previous msg to him. Sure wish you'd have 'em make that a user- selectable parameter (i.e. how fine the bounding box is around the original object), though! Since I've not…
Actually, I've had limited success with DEFORM_I.PXP – enough to get me to the point of doing what you indicated above. Using a combination of 3×3 and 4×4 boxes helped me smack things in the desired way (mostly) using a tangled web of five or six deformation sequences until I…
Heck, I'm not really talking to myself (just yet), although it may seem so! Anyway – also, is there a way to 'bend' something from a straight object to a crooked one, again, for example a car that was hit in the door, to deform the wheelbase. (I know -…
#Yost group 6 (Deform)
Message #129528
Gary (and friends), I bought the Disk #6 recently (yesterday?) through Schreiber and found the "Deform" didn't really seem to give me quite what I want … Am I missing something, or is there no way to 'rp – sorry – no way to replicate the destination grid to be…
He did… Or rather John did (first) – I've got it!
Much obliged!
OK – just more samples and things, then, I suppose? Could you post the updated files here, perhaps?
OK – I see. How can I tell, then? Mine's 2106216 bytes (3DS.EXE, that is)… Is there a patch upgrade here somewhere I missed? (I've probably got the 3.00 version since I purchased it soon after it was available, but how can I tell?)
hmmm… Always a pleasure, Gary!
When should we "send $" … I'm ready and willing! (haven't seen any offer or mail-out, yet)
#3D Studio v 3.1 ?
Message #129065
Supposedly, there is a "3D Studio 3.1" version dated 6/4/94 instead of 12/8/93 out (?). Is there anything we people are missing, and if so, is there an update available (I was told it's mostly only examples, and the program hasn't changed, basically). Anything else that's different between the two?
VIB 1.0.5 driver prob
Message #128902
Well, unfortunately, the VIBRANT 1.0.5 drivers still locks up in *.FL? playback inside 3DS (v 3) on my S3 805 chip! If I use a (any other) non-3DS program to play them, all works just fine… My specific card is an Orchid Fahrenheit VA/VLB w/2MB memory. I never had any…
OK – it's an 805 (VLB/2MB) version to be exact…
Yep – I've traced it down to where it has to be the latest beta Vibrant Drivers. I take out *all* three 'cloaked' drivers, and the cloaking API, and it still hangs, but switching back to the previous (beta 3?) drivers makes everything work just fine – I still have…
Yes, but only once, and they're hard to get through to! They say that any 16-bit or 32-bit DOS extender should recognize and avoice the areas they use, so 3DS and other "hi tech" programs shouldn't be affected. I noted the part about how it will start with the standard…
Unfortunately, at present, anyway, no. It only 'hides' three things: the MSCDEX ROM driver, the Mouse driver and the Disk Cache.
hmmm… (bummer!) I've played around with a bit, and seem to have traced the other proble I reported to cloaking of the Disk Cache – it it's disables, then I don't have problems playing *.FLC files, etc. Strange! Seems it needs a bit of work, yet. (?!)
3DS v 3 -vs- Cloaking
Message #125726
(not sure if this will appear above or below the original uploaded text.) Anyway – the cloaking features buy me back 62+K low RAM, so they're worth the trouble to get them working properly! Well, at least this one should be fun to figure out! I've just installed the new…
Latest "Vibrant" beta
Message #125723
Well, I seem to be having a dickens of a time with the latest VIBRANT graphics driver update outside of normal use! Anything I do in the 'normal' world works perfectly, but lemme try and show a .FLC or something, and things go straight to he… It almost always shows…
I think the most RAM an XMS 3.0 driver recognizes is 64MB, Steve – either that or try "EXTMEM=128000" to force it to use more. (I know QEMM used to not recognize my > 16MB of XMS, and I had to add a parameter like that – it does now,…
it's an AMI BIOS, but not sure 'xactly which one. The board I have is a VLB 486/66 w/32MB RAM onboard.
worth a shot, but I think we've narrowed it down to an overzelous RED gun adjustment in the AverKey VGA-=>NTSC unit…

VTV-2000
Message #121971
hmmm… I'll keep that in mind! Their new BitBlitzer VLB card w/2MB VRAM is capable to 24-bit at 60 fields per second, and looks pretty good – all with a 'money-back' guarantee. I'll let you know what I find out…
hmmm… I'm using QEMM 7.04 for VM services… Oh, well – seems to have calmed itself down to "once-in-a-while" right now
BTW – are there any national chains (like Walden or Dalton's) which carry the book? I can't seem to find one here in Charleston…
"Visual Circuits" boards
Message #121389
OK, as long as I'm on a roll this week … Has anyone here had one-to-one experience with the Visual Ciruits' products? I have specs on their VTV-2000, which would provide 64K color real-time output to NTSC, and they are sending info on a newer VESA local bus output board…
Hopefully so, Gary! It's wierd – sometimes I can go hundreds of *.FLC-based frames without a single lockup, and then it'll kick my tail every hour on the half-hour (jocular mode on) for the next five hours… Rendering to *.TGA or *.JPG has absolutely no problems – could that maybe…

Video out too orange!
Message #121387
I think it's likely the device. I've screwed around with it a bit, and every other program I can find shows them the same way on the VGA display, but warm (really warm! …) on the composite NTSC output. The signal is provided by an "Averykey" VGA -=> NTSC converter…
lockup during -=> *.FLC
Message #120778
Also, I've had a strange situation of late: after installing an upgrade to 32MB of RAM, rendering 'test show-me' examples on 256-color *.FLC format hangs at a random frame sometimes – other times works like a charm (I'm rendering to NULL output device – i.e. no display). Any other format…
#Video out too orange!
Message #120777
OK – I'm sort of a 'newbee', but I've done everything the books tell me to do in order to get color-correct output, etc, etc.: the Gamma correction has been applied to two different monitors and I have output to video tape which show a distinctly orange cast to the…
latest Vibrant beta
Message #107530
Well, I dunno, but I've given it a sincere shot: what gives with the latest update (beta) of the Vibrant drivers? When I install them, (without instructions, I just left the old *.RLM there and added the new one, replacing the two "3.0a" VIB*.* files with the newer ones, and…
Hope so! … You're the only one, so far! Anyway – I know about the DPS PAR board – I've even seen one! Haven't heard of the Matrox MAX until I went to "Hot-lanta" for Comdex a week or so ago, though. It doesn't look like a serious contender, IMHO.…
#Multiple TGA playback
Message #106242
It seems I remember someone mentioning a software-only product they have that would allow me to render to *.TGA (would prefer *.JPG, but…), and then put them all into a single file that would play back in real-time (reel-time?) to output to my VCR. Any such animal out there? (I…
#101681-
#3D Studio 3.0A
Message #102699
hmmm… If I've already pulled down the newer VIBRANT drivers, is there any reason I should pull the "whole mess"?
Much obliged, John! I'm sure I *should* be – I have the current Viewpoint Labs CD/ROM…
Out of space blew C: !
Message #102697
Thanks again! I'm about back to 75 or 80% at this point. Boy – what a PIA! Fortunately, I have a 250MB portable tape backup and keep fairly up-to-date backups of everything… Oh, well restore #1, restore #2, restore #3 …
I think you're likely right, Gary. I just had to swap the controller out and then re-low-level and start from scratch (it's a 1.3GB ESDI drive – not your 'average' stuff, these days….).
Out of space blew C: !
Message #101783
It was only a 60-frame FLIC, jonas. Wierd one! I have just finished recovering the basic system (mostly), and I'm restoring from tape a few other things, yet.
#Out of space blew C: !
Message #101328
Well, here's a good one for ya! I had a rendering FLIC blow up on me with an "out of space on temporary drive" message with only a "Continue" button to choose. When I did, everything on my C: drive (which is a 1.3GB drive) was blown away. I don't…
Meshes on CD/ROM
Message #101327
hmmm… Any way to get one without going to SIGgraph'94?
Meshes on CD/ROM
Message #99336
thanks… Got it!
Meshes on CD/ROM

Nope. Not aware of this one, either – like I said – I just got here … Where/who do I contact Syndesis?

New IPAS
Message #99334
I did try dropping back to VESA mode with the original released version, but I haven't tried it with the new drivers. I'll give it a shot. You see – the test-patterns displayed don't look right to start with…
