#828 Gandey vs 2.0 Message #854
From: John Bono Amiga User Forum · Ramblings September 16, 1990 12:22 AM
I think most people that own 3000s realize exactly what they are getting in 2.0. Remember, all 3000s currently shipped still have 1.3 on it, and when they do the final shift to ROMs, *all* Amys will have 2.0, so that will be the OS to target. John

Or the Modern day version IT CAME FROM THE VCR, about movies like "Surf Nazis Must Die," "Sorority Babes at the Slimeball Bowlarama," and of course, the ultimate "Toxic Avenger," and "Toxic Avenger II." John

#66 Disney Studio Message #86
From: John Bono AmigaArts Forum · Animation September 7, 1990 12:22 PM
Don't blame 2.0, blame the software. The Disney Animation Studio(?) is a very new program, and 2.0 has been released to the general public for 4 months now, and has been in beta for at least 4 months prior to it's release. They should have programmed with 2.0 in mind,…

A meg and a half should be enough to do a bitmap to a LJ. I ran bitmapped images on my LJII with 512k, and it will output at LJ+ resolution(150dpi). John

It's not his responsibility, I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure postal regs are clear cut when it comes to receiving something through the mail. If you receive something that you didn't specifically order, didn't expect, etc., you have absolutely no financial responsibility in regards to receiving that item.…

#118365 #Support numbers Message #118433
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors August 31, 1990 12:03 PM
Not really. If a number is unlisted, the number will show up on information as "unpublished," and often times the operator will tell you that there is someone like the person you are looking for, but the number is unlisted. So by calling information, you can find out whether or…
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade August 25, 1990 11:05 PM
Right now though, a 2000 with gvp/2500 is preferable to the 3000 if you want to use the bridgeboard, because the 2000 amigas have the extra slots. If in the future, CBM makes a bridgeboard that has more capabilities(ega/vga and com ports built in) then it would be feasible for…
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade August 25, 1990 2:19 PM
I was taking a WAG(wild *** guess) with the AT bridge, so you're probably right. With the 3000 though, you only have two IBM slots to work with, so you can maybe put a RAM expansion and a VGA card in there, and that's it. The problem with the using…
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade August 24, 1990 9:42 PM
Well, since the A3000 isn't a machine that wasn't designed for a bridgeboard from the outset, that is out of the question, like you said. [AIf you are not planning on selling your machine, data transfer between an Amiga and an IBM with 3 1/2" disks is an easy matter,…
#117685 Amiga Info Needed Message #117687

8)The Amiga mouse will work with the IBM side just fine. 9)I honestly have no idea 10)If I were you, I wouldn't part with the 386 just yet. The big advantage of the 2500/3000 over the 500 is *speed*. There is just no comparing a 68000 machine with a 68030…
#117556 #Amiga Info Needed Message #117685
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Talk to the Trade August 23, 1990 10:08 PM
First of all, before anything else, why do you want to get an Amiga? That should be the first question answered before anything else.(I'd hate to recommend my favorite system to someone who may not need it, then wind up thinking that they wasted their money) As to the rest,…

Well, I guess this proves that the A3000 is going to be a major contender in the Unix market, and has serious potential to be a major threat to Apple for dominance in the 68K market for the 90's. John

What I heard was that though the Amiga had less keys than they required, the contract was not rejected on that basis; i.e. the contract was rejected, it was not due to the lack of extra keys, though that was mentioned in the report, it was due to several other…

Then there is no need for VM. Since you already have all the memory you need, you don't need to add any more by using VM. And once you start creating page faults due to the need for VM, performance drops off rapidly, depending on the number of page faults.…

I don't think virtual memory would be that much of a godsend to the Amiga. Using virtual memory would be nice for doing "ordinary" applications, however, it would wreck the ability of the Amiga to do real-time multitasking(the one thing that makes it the best multimedia box). It would still…

If you have an Amiga at home, you should take it into the office and show them some of the things it can do, especially with regular HAM(4096 colors, don't know what resolution though) HAM E will give you 60,000 colors onscreen, but really the best way is to show…

I don't think the artsy type commercial would go good either. What would be better would be a "head to head" commercial–one that takes direct aim at the PC/Mac types, particlular the Macintosh, since the Amiga would most likely be in direct competition with that. One example would be having…

I've seen them on local CT stations. What I think CBM is doing is letting local dealers use the spots and pay for them out of their own pocket. Then the dealer inserts a little blurb about prices, location, etc. That way the Amiga gets coverage at the same time…

No, No, No! We don't need the pimple-faced teenager hawking Amigas again! We need commercials aimed at the business community, ads in Byte, Business Week, PC Week. TV ads featuring stone-faced gray-suited types going "I've never seen a computer do so much for so little money" type commercial, not another…

#108416 CDTV in my Vehicle Message #108453
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 12, 1990 10:47 AM
I think something like CDTV would be good if it had a national map–showing every back road in every jerkwater town in the country. When I used to work for the moving company, trying to find every back road just in the local towns was a major chore, and if…
#108121- License AmigaDOS? Message #108318
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · System Software June 11, 1990 2:41 PM
That depends on how CBM handles the licensing agreement. If commodore licenses the hardware, but does not license the OS then market share for the Amiga would be helped and not at CBM's expense. However, if they license the OS as well, then CBM would lose control over the Amiga…

I used to work for a household moving company, and one of those things would be a dream come true. You wouldn't even need CMOS technology to put something like that in a truck anyway. Most trailer trucks have huge batteries or gangs of batteries that would definitely provide enough…

Well, encyclopedias aren't exactly cheap to begin with. My parents bought ours back in the 1972 and it cost over $100 back then. So, $1000 now for a video encyclopedia isn't that much more. John
#108116 #CBM Announces CDTV! Message #108179
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 9, 1990 9:21 PM
True, but MS-DOS computers are all over the place, and the fact that cheap compatibles came out made it more likely for software to be written, which in turn sells more systems. IBM didn't like the fact that there were clones, but in the long run, it helped the company.…
#108077 #CBM Announces CDTV! Message #108108
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 8, 1990 11:34 PM
By anybody I meant that anybody who is willing to develop on an Amiga can develop a CDTV application, that expensive and exhorbitant hardware wouldn't be necessary to develop applications for CDTV. An Amiga 2500/30 with a large enough hard drive to handle it would be enough. True, developing a…
#108043 #CBM Announces CDTV! Message #108050
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 8, 1990 12:26 PM
The big advantages that Commodore has over CD-I is that *anybody* can make a CDTV disk as long as he has an Amiga. The same can't be said for CD-I. In addition, if CBM licensed the CDTV format to stero companies to enlarge the hardware base, and built general purpose…
#107985 CBM Announces CDTV! Message #108049
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 8, 1990 12:04 PM
You don't have to call it a computer, you could call it "interactive TV" or somesuch. Anyhoo, it would be used as a computer with only minimal user interaction, and with a maximum of online, reference-style storage. This machine would seem to dovetail nicely with Amigavision as a development platform.…

#107948 #CBM Announces CDTV! Message #107959
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 7, 1990 3:48 PM
It ultimately depends on how long it takes for the competitors to come up with their own CD units. If CDTV can get one solid year of sales before Sony/Philips enter the market, and allow third-party stero companies to license the technology for the purpose of building their own CDTV…
#107808 A3000 recall rumor Message #107844

#107639 #CBM Announces CDTV! Message #107843
From: John Bono AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors June 6, 1990 1:13 PM
Well, at least CBM was smart enough to 1)remove the amiga nameplate from the unit, and 2)set up the machine so that it is more like some sort of reference material, and not as a high price nintendo. That was some very good market decisions on Commodore's part(which is very…
