Thanks, Dave that just what I wanted to hear. Doug V.
Thanks Jeremy, I will give this a try. Doug V.
Thanks for the information, even if its bad news.
Brian, the MACH64 is suppose to be directly compatible with the VESA standard and does not come with a VESA TSR. I double checked in the ATI forum's library. In any case what driver would I pick in the Animator PRO screen? There does not seem to be a genertic…
ATI MACH64 &ANI Prov1.3
Message #159449
I have a ATI Mach64 with 4Mg memory. I also have Animator Pro v1.3. I have not been able to find a way to get a screen resolution greater then 320×200. Has anyone got a higher resolution working with the Mach64 and Ani Pro ? I would appreciate the help.…
Thanks I will look.
PMJI, Greg, I could only get background rendering working with OS/2 and an ATI Mach32 working if I used the IBM 8514 drivers. I also had to sent the vibrant drivers for the background 3DS to VGA mode. If you have version 4 of 3ds, I thought I read that…
Jeff, you need to create a DOS Image . For details look in the command reference guide (in your information folder) and search on VMDISK and FSFILTER.SYS. You will get the other details from there. It all basically works by booting a real DOS (I use a DOSv5.0 boot disk),…
Hi Jamie, I have just purchased a CD-ROM that comes with RAZOR & Matisse. I also have a a DPS PAR. I assume that RAZOR PRO is a special or more functional version of RAZOR. How can I get an upgrade ? P.S. : I only ordered the CD_ROM three…
Thanks Miles I will try this right away. Doug V.

OS/2
Message #124647
Miles, I have noticed this same problem, not only on 3DS but also with other DOS graphics programs (eg VistaPro). This problem seems to get worse over time. I have not found any settings that can stop this problem. It seems that the 3DS process gets lower in priority over…
Simon, I found a FLI/FLC playerfor OS/2 ultimedia in either the OS2USER or OS2SUP forums on CIS. They worked well on my system. I hope this helps. Doug V.
George, have you tried increasing the MVDM setting "DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT" in the DOS Settings page. That setting tells 3DS3 how much memory is available. Depending on your available OS/2 swapper disk space you may be able to set the value at 64Meg or higher. I hope this helps. Doug.
Pavel, the latest release of VistPro v3.1 has a save to DXF featyre built in. It also has a utility that can take a VUE file and turn the camera path into a script from which a VistaPro animation can be generated. I highly recogmend the CD-ROM version of VistaPro…
Micheal, the company 3DTV sells LCD Shutter glasses and they have a FLI player that has as input a right.fli and left.fli. This product does work with SEGA glasses (through parrelel and serial controls). I have used 3DS to create FLI's that I use with 3DTV's glasses and am pleased…
Bailey, if you turn the "VIDEO_8514_XGA_IO_TRAP" to off it does speed things up but it will cause the white screen problem you described after switching to the WorkPlace Shell then back to 3DSv3. For background rendering try a seperate DOS MVDM and run a command line 3DS render. I think…
Micheal, I do not think a OS/2 FLI player would be of great value. If you ran the a player on the OS/2 desktop the full range of 256 colors are NOT available. OS/2 controls the desktop color pallete and therefore reduces the number of colors available to the FLI.…
Nelson, under OS/2 v2.1 I have successfully used AAPLAY.EXE, ANIPLAY.EXE and Trilobytes PLAY.exe. There is NO FLIC OS/2 native players but the DOS players work very well. I usually use PLAY.EXE which can be found in the forums utilities library as "PLAY80.ZIP". I hope this helps.
#PlayMation & MS
Message #44954
Here is the scoop on Playmation buyout by Microsoft. This was extracted from the PlayMation BBS. MARTIN'S MINUTES – April 29, 1993 Where Have I Been? It's been a few weeks since I've posted any messages to the net and I apologize for that, but I think the juicy news…
Brust, I sent you a reply that said a superscape program called 3dbench was in this forum, that is wrong. The program is in the "graphdev" forum lib 11. Sorry.
PMJI, Brust, "SuperScape" sounds familiar. I think they made the program 3DBench which is used to test your PC for how many animated frames per second your PC is capable of. The "3DBench" program is in this forum in library 11 under the name 3dbench.zip. I hope this helps.
Mathew, for $15 you can get 3DS files that where created using the $150 package. The 3DS files were not mentioned in the flier. This is the way I am checking out the value of the $150 package. I have not recieved the 3DS files yet, so I do not…
David, the new setting is in the OS/2 v2.1 beta that came on CD-ROM marked 12/92. There is a readme file that says that when MSCDEX is required by an DOS application then this"DOS Setting" must be set to ON. I have tried it with several of my CD-ROM's and…
#MSCDEX OS/2 DOS Box
Message #43181
Dave, the rest of the messages will give you several good ways to over come this limitation. What I can tell you is that in the beta OS/2 v2.1 version this problem is totally eliminated by a new VDM setting. You do not even have to load MSCDEX. Hope you…
PMJI, Greg, I thought that the multiple material support was only available through the v2.01a upgrade version of 3DS. Other will be able to confirm this. DOug.
Thanks for the reply, I will experiment.
Thanks for the reply Eli.
Gary, thanks for the quick reply. I hope that a path building/concatnate feature will be in future releases. I would like to know what the experienced 3DS user does when they have the need for complicated paths that would be best completed by the building/concatnate feature? My most immediate thought…
#Path Questions
Message #32006
This is a novice's question on paths. I have a simple animation of a toy that takes a hat off it's head, bows, returns, and put the hat back on. I created a path in the 2D shaper for the Hat being taken off the toys head. Frames 0 to…
Robert, I had no problem with my configuration but I had used headphones to listen to the music cds through the MEC-84 headphone jack. There is also a volume control on both the SB and NEC. I have a friend with an Adaptec and NEC-84, he uses the Corel ASPI…
Robert, this advice is worth what it was paid for. In DOS ( I assume that is the environemnt you are talking about ) the SB must be attached to the NEC-84 by an internal or external connection. You would most likely have to have a the internal connection made…

Message #30894
Joel, I need some information on Photo-CD. I have a Future Domain FD-1680 SCSI Controller and a NEC-84. The Future Domain driver is 2.20 I also have MSCDEX 2.21. I intend to read single sessions from my NEC-84 through Corel's Mosiac ( Corel Draw 3.0b ). My local Kodak contact…
One of the easier routes to getting Raytracing and 3DS together may be through IPAS extending to the free raytracer POV found in the COMART forum on CIS. They already have a 3ds .ASC file to POV converter that works very well. There is also a number of utilities that…
Soory to butt in. Is the IXP collection going to be free to registered 3ds2 users or is there going to be a cost. If they is going to be a change can you give me a ball park figure. Thanks Doug. ( I did receive the status letter but…
Rick the data files where created with a program called Fractint (a freeware program found in the COMART forum). The real intent of data files is from survey or CAD files. I know that through 3DS manipulations you could diffent elements of a object show different materials, but I do…
Rick, I have purchased both Nusery and 3Dsurf. 3DSurf worked fine both generating landscapes and creating them from data files. Nursery had a problem where it would only create one tree type. Any other tree type hung the system. I phoned them yesterday and they are sending me an upgrade/fixed…
Andy, this may be tough to take but you CANNOT run OS/2 and 3ds at the same rimetime. 3DS uses VCPI method of accessing extended memory. This memory method is incompatable with OS/2. VCPI violates the memory integrity of OS/2. Our only hope is that 3ds switches to DPMI method…
Sorry to butt in. I just called the manufacturer of Acecat and they told me that the 5×5 tablet worked with MS-Windows, Anim Pro, Corel Draw and several other Autodesk products. If this is incorrect then they shuld be told. I think they consider their ADI drivers and 9×6 converter…
Martin, thanks for the responce. OS/2 v2.0 really screems. I hope they jump on the band wagon. Ever day I use the version 2.0 makes it harder to boot into DOS. — Doug

Hi. I have just purchased a copy of Animator PRO. I am waiting for the delivery but the dealer was kind enough to lend me the manuals ( I actually read them must be a left over from my MainFrame days). I am also an OS/2 user. I have the…
