Choosing a PS Laser
Message #216984
I've a Panasonic KX-P5400 Postscript LED printer, 300 dpi which can now be had new for as little as $350. A great little printer for the Amiga that also handles HP-format bitmap output. The Postscript Level 2 function alone is worth the price. Plus it has an expansion port for…
Without being able to go into detail (unfortunately) I have found that it seems to be a combination of which wordprocessor (yours sounds like WP at the moment) and the setting in it, possibly the Workbench settings and it sounds like you're tried these already. The problem seems to stem…
Jeff… Yr welcome… Glad you managed to get back in production.. Regards, Robert Carter Quilters' Fancy Limited
Thanks, fortunately I found the answer in something I overlooked — in the prefs on Pro Page. Thanks for your help, though.
I found the answer sometime around three a.m. this morning. For some reason I missed the screen mode in the prefs on Pro Page. UP came a requester box, and it showed that the pixels were out of whack. I reset it and it was just fine. THanks for the…
Dan, Sounds like your harddrive ate your custom files (or maybe the path pointing to them). Do you have them backed up? You might want to search through the FW directories and see if you can find them. Otherwise, you might have to set them up again. I'd suggest you…
Jeff, Don't know if this will help, but standard NTSC hi-res should be 640X400, overscan would be a bit more. Good luck! Asha @}–,–`–
Jeff… Propage creates some files in your S directory. Try renaming PPage.DFLT to PPage.DFLT.OLD and ProPage should let you reset your defaults.. The first line in my copy of the file is SCM 644 412 1 32772 which I suspect means my default screen setting is 644 x 412 pixels…
I just reloaded FW4 and am getting weird responses..hmmmmmm
All of the customized info is contained in a file named finalwriter/fwfiles/fw.prefs. Perhaps this file became corrupted when your hard drive went down.
FW-4 Problem…
Message #216288
I'm having a little inconvenience with FW-4. Every so often, I get a Guru and have to reboot. Sometimes, this invalidates my hard drive. This happened this past Friday, just before I turned my computer off for the weekend (it's at work). Now, thanks to the abilities of the Amiga,…
PPage screen help please
Message #216240
I need help with a vexing problem. I was fooling around with the screen mode function on wb 2.04 to see if I could increase the screen size of Pro Page when I got it so it magnified the Pro Page screen so high it is really unusable. I went…
Larry; I've certainly started to notice how tempermental PPAge is in regards to changing graphics after they have been imported into a doc. Actually a lot of what I thought were bugs seem to have cleared up now that I now what not to do. I've had PPage for some…
Larry; I have managed to get most of the PCX files converted lately. Wolf Faust & Mike Loader offered a lot of help and assistance. One of the strange things I have found with the PCX files is how tempermental they seem to be (or is it the Amiga conversion…

Dear Sysop or anyone who can help. I have two big problems that I can't solve and they are serious. The first problem is that any program involved with Math calculations such as a Metric Conversion program ect. do not work. Because of this I cheked my calculator in the…

Correction: Under 3.1 it only works in black and white…… Under 3.1 on ECS AMigas that doesn't have a graphics card. YES, that is true. On my Amiga Technologies 1200 (KS3.1), ProPage works fine in all but 16 colour mode (Ghosting does appear in this screenmode. On a friends 2000…

G'Day George Problems with PCX files is not something I have come across because I always convert my bitmap images to IFF-ILBM before I do any work in ProPage. This is just one part of the preparation I do before loading ProPage to start a document. I would like to…
Choosing a PS Laser
Message #216047
Choosing a laser: I have two lasers, one a Laserjet 4MP, and a Lasjet 4M Plus. I have also used the 5MP when reviewing it. Of all those, the 4M Plus is by far the best. I have it working day in, day out, and it keeps on keeping on.…

G'Day George; Just catching up with CIS after a hetic few weeks finishing some freelance stuff and a couple of books, and noticed your messages. On top of what Jeff has said, I'd also like to point out another obersavation or two that some may find useful. One is that…
Hi George! I didn't mean to send the file on disk by 'normal'mail, but by e-mail.( so the distance shouldn't be a big problem) So if the file isn't to big, just append it to your e-mail. Many greetings, Anton
Anton; >>If you want, I convert your file to any PC-file format you need. (I hope!).So if you want, feel free to send it to me by mail and I'll return it soon
Hi George! If you want, I convert your file to any PC-file format you need. (I hope!).So if you want, feel free to send it to me by mail and I'll return it soon. Questions? Just send a mail! Greetings from vienna, Anton
Most of the scanners can be used with the Amiga if you have a driver for it. I use an Epson flat-bed scanner and the driver from ImageMaster, and it works well. I scan the pictures into Imagemaster, save them as files, and then load them into whatever program I…

Message #215317
Can I use a readily available scanner with my A2000? I have a SCSI interface. Are there any scanners that will work with the Amiga. Will it plug into your ISA slots? What kind of software is there for capturing and manipulating images that you scan? Can you use a…
#FrameStore to IBM
Message #215261
Can a Framestore file be used, or converted to something that an IBM can use? I have a picture tht I would like printed out but I don't have the ability to do it myself. I can get an IBM with a some sort of high tech colour printer. They…
Thanks for the info Faust, I will continue using my HPL4 instead of my Kyocera for printing with TeX. At least now I Know that nothing is wrong with my setup. Since my Fyocera has a "Prescribe" command set I will try lowering the setting for the max download and…
#Printing with TeX
Message #214939
Most users misunderstand. Learning TeX? What for? I wrote several big manuals with TeX and still don't know most of the TeX basics. It simply doesn't make sense to start learning TeX by reading the TeX books. Most of my friends (and include me) spend most of the time getting…
Hi Gracia, I use 85 lpi, the printer's default, for postscript printing from programs that will not use the printer's default (ProPage). 73, Kelly
Andrew & all I too use ProPage to produce Em, an Amiga DTP magazine. Feel free to email me for an exchange of ideas. I also used it to produce the Wordworth Companion for Future Publishing and although that isn't real high end, it's higher enough for me 🙂 I…

We publish to computer magazines using Professional Page and would be very interested in exchanging ideas with other publishing companies, agencies, and the like who are using Professional Page in a serious production situation.
For the correct screen ruling (LPI, Density – same thing), check with the newspaper – the previous message about 120 LPI is nuts – there's no way a newspaper could carry that level of screening. Most magazines only run at 133 or 120.
Hi Andre, Thanks, I'll also file it for future reference. Very good info for a non printer trained person like moi. These people won't have a clue what I'm talking about if I ask . They can barely use their MAC computers to write. It is printed by the "big…
I have a cannon BJC 600. It prints really great when it's not in the shop. I've replaced the PURGE unit 3 times under warrenty. That thing cost 348 dollars. Go with the HP printer. Cannon s cks.

Joan, sorry, but I can't. I just tried the various HP-LJ2 drivers here sequentially until the problem went away. My only suggestion is that you try a similiar approach, excepting that you are looking for a different driver entirely. Brian Been there…. Done that…. Better.
If your using a Panosonic printer that is normal (ejecting a full page after you are done printing)
Can you suggest a Printer Driver to try. I have an Epson Stylus 800 48-nozzle ink jet printer with an Amiga 1200. Hitting fairways and greens!

Message #209386
Joan, this is a known problem with FW and some printer drivers. You could try using one of the other printer drivers from the Printer Driver library here in AmigaUser to see if one of them will eliminate it.

Blake, you could use GhostScript (GHOSTSC.LHA) from the libraries.
I tried as low as 55 for a page length with no improvement. I'm still getting one extra page and the following page loaded forward. What is your page length? Hitting fairways and greens!
Simply reduce your page length. Jeff Walker, JAM magazine jwalker@cix.compulink.co.uk

Oh, I forgot to tell: In order to define a page length, you have to enable CanonForm in CanonPref. The page length itself is defined as usual in the printer preference program of the workbench. But this page length value is not used at all by the Commodore or Canon…

The default page lenght for the US version of the BJ200e is 11" (US Letter according to the default dip switch setting). You need to change the page length by software. Now changing the page length requires you to download the original Canon driver. Don't use the old Canon BJ10…
