#Ramdisk for .mnx file?
Message #21698
Hello AutoDudes: I have a memory management problem for you (who doesn't). I am running a 486 with 8 meg of memory and I would like to make a ramdisk to copy my menu into. The .mnx is about .5meg. It seems that PharLap simply pukes when I use emm386.exe…
Yes! AutoPlot by the SoftWare Machine in Salt Lake City is excel ve three versions to choose from; ranging from minimal features to a package that will tell you what to do through the speaker (spoken prompts!). I don't have their address/phone with me right now but if you can't…
Larry, Thanks for the suggestion, that asctext.lsp did the job, and I was able to import those notes from the wordprocessor with no problem. Regards…………………………DM
Thank you Dave. The file was thar wear you sed. Thank You Larry
Duff, Rats. I was hoping I'd gotten it wrong… Oh well…at least you folks know about the problem for R12 now… and If need be I can edit the faulty DXF files into acceptable shape (PITA that that'll be), so I guess I can live with this…but BOY was it…
Papa, You are correct in pointing out the fact that the AES DXF translator does not produce a "correct" DXF file. It has *many* *many* bugs, and for that reason it did not pass our evaluation tests. Accordingly, we did not purchase it. Regarding testing the problem files with *NIX…
Larry, I have/had ACAD configured to do an automatic AUDIT following a DXFIN, IGESIN, or DXBIN (check your #8 system options in the configuration menu – item #9). Enabling this feature will cause ACAD to automatically fire up the AUDIT function after any drawing import commands is executed. Note: this…

David, Mike's AutoCAD dealer should be happy to help him get a network authorization code even if he doesn't immediately buy another copy of AutoCAD from him . The dealer will need to charge a service fee, however, to cover costs. Dieter

Bill, Autodesk does not plan to produce any more releases of AutoCAD for SCO Xenix. The good news is that AutoCAD Release 11 for SCO Unix has just been released by our QA department for shipping. We also plan to support an SCO Unix version of AutoCAD Release 12. Dieter
Alvin, I just left a message for a gentleman looking at a 4662. Was the 4663 being used with AutoCAD? More importantly, what cabling is being used on the plotter. The Tek plotter I played with only had an HPIB (Hewlett Packard Interface Buss) connector (called GPIB for General Purpose…
Scott, What are you selling here? Something I should be interested in? Dennis
Brad, Anything you want to buy is only worth what you're willing to pay for it. Make an insultingly low offer and dicker from there. They know what they paid for it and they should have an idea how much it's worth. Since copies of AutoCAD don't lose their value…
Jake, I don't know about that. My neon green eyesore has become a faded pastel imitation of its former radiance. I guess I'll just blame it on the way the wife does the laundry, maybe I'll buy her a softer rock. Dennis
David, Wouldn't changing everything from one layer to the other using SSX do the trick? Sometimes you are just too lazy. Dennis

Pierre, I'll bet that this is high on the wishlist. Even if an individual has a fractional font, to distribute his drawings he must include the font .SHX file. This is intolerable. How do you like your fractions; with a horizontal or diagonal slash, what ratio of regular text height…

Old Plotter
Message #21678
David, You don't live in Michigan by any chance do you? The local 4-year college has an old Tek plotter that I tried to set up for use by AutoCAD a long time ago. I'm not familiar with the model number but the machine is a flat bed plotter that…
Ian, At this time, AME cannot create swept solids through a parametric path, even with API. This means that you can only roughly approximate the spring. You could do this by using the 3dpoly command, feeding it calculated points. You could create a circle at each vertex normal to the…

#Cadalyst or Cadence??
Message #21675
Ken, Excellent suggestion!! I read "Guerrilla Marketing" also and give it my highest recommendation. One point Levinson makes is that you have to keep up your marketing program probably six months before you can make an accurate assessment of whether the program was successful or not. Many people give up…
Dave, There are ways of automating uploads but most aren't practical unless you are doing a lot of it. I've got the uploading of the catalogue files automated, but then again it's a monthly job (when I do it……right now JP is struggling with it.) There are several utilities on…
Lee, Which magazine published the code. If it was CADalyst magazine (and in the November issue) it hasn't been uploaded yet, but if it was Cadence magazine you will find the file on their own BBS. Cadence doesn't publish their code on the AutoCAD forum.
Larry, If you are refering to the lisp code in the November issue of CADalyst magazine, it hasn't been uploaded yet. But if you are refering to code published in Cadence magazine, you're on the wrong board. Cadence has it's own BBS and doesn't publish code here.
David. Yes it is shipping. I received my upgrade offer in the mail Friday. But before I upgrade I would like to know if it will work with Protected mode and Real Mode. The name of the product has changed to Borland C++ 3.0. Turbo C++ is a totally different…

#ACAD for Xenix
Message #21669
Am I the only one in the free world using ACAD for XENIX??? There seems to be a distinct lack of information about the future for this platform. Does anyone have any clues about R11 for Xenix? We are actually using SCO Unix and not having any significant problems, other…
Dave, Can you rename a file the same as an existing one, thus merging the two on your machine ????? I know…I know……stupid question……..
Yea ! Dave, I Gnu that you Gnu that both you and I knew that. The file has to be translated, but I thought that I had said that………(didn't I??) I just spent two miserable days re-initializing my hard drive. The freekin' drivers insisted on putting the boot partition in…

Joe- If you wan't, I could lend him my ADAM; it's still sitting up in the attic, but the basic tape won't load anymore, so he'd have to stick to the game or the word processor that are built in. Or the 300 baud modem with comm software that doesn't…

Thanks Chris, I agree, the problem for us was that the AutoShade 2 and RenderMAN manual, does not tell you a great deal about how to get the output, to color copies eg: calcomp color master, and the local calcomp office thinks there are some drivers available ! regards, Ian..

Message #21654
Dietmar – That's a neat idea, but can't you do this right now? The UCS table contains the information needed to find the Z-axis vector of the UCS, and the (trans) function will accept that as well. I've never tried it, but it should be possible, requiring a little matrix…
AutoCAD creates and updates a log file that records actions during Attach, Detach, and Reload of Xrefs. It is an ASCII text file with a .XLG extension. Perhaps this can help.
I'm way behind with my own Mac technology – so I'll let the heavy-duty Macaroons answer you – if they can. I'll just say that, I think, Autodesk's job is to try to keep all hardware vendors happy. If Autodesk were to annouce that a particular configuration worked better than…

Looking at what I have, R11 Mac shipping date is still "Estimated" – which means that a definite shipping date is not yet fixed. In any case it's not going to be in 1991. Regarding AME, the commitment is to try get AME on all AutoCAD supported platforms. I'll see…

Howard… Uh… you've kinda thrown me with the "is this a standard ADI driver?" line. In some ways there really aren't any standard ADI drivers (OK… ADESK now ships a SVGA real mode driver.. but that don't count! ). This driver is a good old fashioned real-mode hardware specific ADI…

ASCII INSERT to ACAD
Message #21647
Donald, I just completed a little study for a colleague who wanted to import tabulations from Lotus into ACAD r11. The Asctext.lsp routine worked fine, but the tabs were screwed up by ACAD's proportional fonts. If you get a problem of alignment, the only *non-proportional* ACAD font is monotxt. Doug
