New SysOp Message #97654
I'd like to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Bob Henderson, and I'll be the new Primary SysOp for the Autodesk forums. I've been with Autodesk for eight years, and in the Product Support Department for seven years. For the past four years I have downloaded and edited all…
Mciaap.drv Message #97653
I have been having a lot of trouble playing .FLC files in Windows using Microsoft Visual Basic (TM), specifically the MCI control. I have the most recent version of the file MCIAAP.DRV. Even though I specify the handle to the window in which I want them to play, the .FLC…

Jamie, I worked with UNIX as a student, on lots of different hardware, Sun/Apollo/Stardent. I have never run any of the PC varieties. I'm not sure if 3ds would run under X but I doubt it – I think its just x86. Mark
#97554- NTSC output Message #97649
Scott, I'm sorry but I probably can't help you with that. When I go to video, a service bureau does it all and I just pay the bill . Any of the dealers on the forum should be able to help you with that however. Maybe send a message or…
#97628 z-buffer info Message #97648
If you want to composite or do effects based on the z-depth in the image, a depth buffer is the way to go. (you can bet that this'll be built into r4). Re depth cue shading, I mean the Distance Cue option in the Atmosphere dialog. – G

Just butting in here. You can pick up some affordable scan converters that can output a 640 x 480 flic in svhs, composite, etc. I just happen to have a Willow Laptop TV. Just load the driver and what you see on your computer screen runs out to tape. I…

Thanks for the clarification, Chuck. It's unfortunate that the 512×480 mode on that Herc card is so non-standard and that you've had to do so much work to get it running. Thanks for the extra effort too! – G

#MEM Alloc. Error??? Message #97639
Gary- I decided to do a little house-cleaning on my machines and I think I cleaned a little too well. On my 486-33 network machine (No Key) I'm now getting a Memory Allocation Error, Cannot load COMMAND, System Halted error everytime I exit 3DS. I've tried reinstalling 3DS and even…
Gemuetlich Message #97638
From: John Tissavary Autodesk Software Forum · Take 5 April 18, 1994 3:47 PM
Langenscheidts Taschenwoerterbuch, English, Neubearbeitung 1990: Gemuetlich: Comfortable, cosy, snug, pleasant. While I didn't list every possible translation of the word, I don't think multiple variations qualifies it, for an instant, as "difficult to translate". The authors of Langenscheidts, I would hazard to guess, have come across much more difficult translations…

Of course you can merge just cameras. Do a MERGE or MERGE PROJECT/CAMER/ANIMATION. You can merge anything you want. I'm not sure about overhead, but using more lights without scrims definitely renders faster. Having to calculate shadows (scrims) takes longer. Besides, when have you lit a normal scene with just…

#97587 #Eco-Rendering… Message #97634
Matte objects and alpha composites in video post are exactly what I was referring to when I said split the render up into elements. Michelle's article is an excellent guide/jumping off point for doing this. 32megs is definitely the least useable amount of memory for 3DS. I would suggest swapping…

From: Autodesk Software Forum · OpSys/Networks April 18, 1994 3:11 PM
You are right! Basically, the 34010 doesn't support true-color, but the Hercules guys did some weird hacks to get it work. In this mode, however, TIGA can't be used to do the drawing. To implement this, we had to rewrite our TIGA VDC to take advantage of a generic draw-code…

Hmmm. Does the product work ok with that INI file and the Windows driver? If so, then maybe that weird address is valid. Chuck Walbourn – Vibrant Graphics
And thanks to you as well, Philip

#97619 #z-buffer info Message #97628
Gary, Pardon my ignorance but why would you need to create a z-buffer depth-map and how would you use it. I take it this is different than an alpha matte which you'd use for keying. Also when you mention depth cue shading are you referring to turning atmosphere and the…
#97621 PAR vs MAX Message #97627
From: John Ellis Autodesk Software Forum · OpSys/Networks April 18, 1994 1:54 PM
Don, As the Matrox Studio currently stands it is an A/B/C roll system in its current configuration with development of a NLE in the works. You would have the option and when you consider the integrated approach of the Studio, your Illuminator Pro becomes more than just a framebuffer, but…

>> I don't think we're stuck with a choice in the PAR. With BLF settings we can just pick what we need, space or quality. Need both, get a larger drive. I'm not sure that's true Don, because as yet no one has stated that the software will allow 1:1…

As a result I contacted Microsoft and apparently the default settings for the various versions since…

From: Don Landis Autodesk Software Forum · OpSys/Networks April 18, 1994 12:55 PM
All this stuff is true but I don't want to build an edit suite around the Illuminator PRO. I guess I'm still old fashion when it comes to video editing and I like the video boxes approach and linear editing. The reason for this is that almost all my editing…

#97617 #z-buffer info Message #97619
There's no direct way to do that, but there's a workaround. Make a version of your scene in which all the objects have white matte material applied to them. Then, set depth cue shading on, and set your camera outer atmosphere range to the extent of the scene (just outside…
#97586 MY Wishlist (early) Message #97618
From: Phillip L. Miller Autodesk Software Forum · Wishlist April 18, 1994 12:43 PM
James, Depth of field is possible, but it is not an easy or fast procedure. The technique I believe most people are talking about is rendering the various portions of the scene (fore, mid & back ground) as seperate images with alpha on, and then recompose the series of images…

Hi, Can anyone tell me how to retrieve z-buffer information from a frame – either during render time or embedded in one of the file formats studio supports?? Thanks, BITS
When rendering via VIDEO POST I keep getting the OUT OF ENVIRONMENT SPACE error message when accessing external processes. I know this is not really a 3DS2 problem, but I figured someone else has come across this problem within #ds besides me… and hopefully someone can tell me a solution!…

"I like to know how to add sound and interactivity to .flc file" Hi Mei-Tien, Autodesk tools are a bit different than what you're looking for: we emphasize the animation and not the sound. Our only sound device is our Windows Player (you can download it here if you don't…
