>> I'm shocked! I managed to stump the master of Imagine 🙂 Master? Not in the least! I'm still learning with everyone else! -GreG
>> My guess would be that the bone deformations are applied in the same order that objects are listed in the PICK/SELECT – FIND REQUESTOR. This shows the order in which objects are loaded into the editor.
>> Is there no version of Dan Farmer's povsuds.exe that will put out a dxf file?
>> How many points per minute do you think you average when you are entering an object like this?
>> It was $500.00. Wayne, I warned you it would cost! BTW, in a related message on the IML, Mike Halvorson was quoted as saying that WinImagine will have native versions for (Win32) Win95 & NT. That they are comitted to keeping the code as lean as possible for optimum…
Darin, I think you got me & Michael confused. You replied to his message, but address it to me. 🙂 >> I checked the docs for the SET LINE EDGE/FILL TO LINE EDGE and am still having a little trouble understanding it. I will just have to keep working at…

Michael, Man do I reallly enjoy your work! Puzzle.JPG is another outstanding piece. Great look to it, really great subject as well. Keep 'em coming! -GreG
>> When I load an object in the detail editor I create a state for it called "first". Then I rotate it and create another state called "second". Now if I set the object back to the "first state it stays in the same position even though I set shape…
>> Ok, I played around with it, and think it will work as long as the mouth is deformed by the open/close bone before it's affected by the pair of smile/frown bones (one for the left side and one for the right).
Stephen, Start by trying to digitize a rather simple object..something that isn't vert detailed. This way you can get a feel of how to go about it. What I do is think in terms of cross-sections. So I will visualize cross-sections along the object, and plot (with a marker) reference…
>> Looks like impulse in working on an OS/2 version of Imagine too, huh? At least Mike's message over in anvena seems to give that impression.
>> This looks decidedly impressive. I have to ask what the model is? Something you made from clay or something? > And how many points are in the wireframe? There is an ample amount of detail, certainly. > The question of digitization vs point-pulling is like the question of OCR…

Hi Stephen, I really enjoyed the images you've uploaded. Great work! I especially LOVE BLUBOOK.JPG & SCULPT.JPG. Truly inspiring…thanks for sharing them with us. Looking forward to seeing more! -GreG
>> But this would cause the map to be stretched looking on the top of the head. Yep, if there is any "detail" on the map at the edges you'll get that stretched look. You can always deform the head so that the top & bottom of the head is…
>> So you're saying I shouldn't just mess with the faces inside the mouth, but with the entire jaw, right?

Trouble with bones
Message #11109
David, Using your example: picture the lower jaw as a hemishpere with 13 wedges, with the hemi-sphere's left lip being the lower lip of the mouth. The small subgroup should be the first cross-section (lip wedge) at the left. The large subgroup should be all the cross-sections starting from the…
>> Right now the scaling the bones does not affect the faces that bone should influence, I checked. Is it planned for future versions? This feature can make certain types of animations much easier – expanding and contracting muscles, for example.

>> Thanks for the reply. I guess by pulling the different modules apart Impulse hopes to attract a larger user base to the individual parts, rather than the whole.
I agree with your thoughts and frustrations regarding non-standard file-formats, and the increasing plug-in mentality. I've been pestering Impulse to add plug-in support for Imagine for some time now, but have decided that I was wrong in requesting it. Actually, it was Mike Halvorson of Impulse who eluded to how…
>> Am I correct in assuming that Impules is developing a Windows version???? Michael, that's correct. They are working on a native Windows Imagine in conjunction with working on getting 3.3 & 4.0 (DOS) out. -GreG
Jason, I may be wrong, but from what I understand, SMACKER uses a compression format that they developed. To use that format you have to buy thier software. I don't believe they made this format available in the public domain, so you need to buy their software to use it.…
Jason, Doesn't SMACKER produce a proprietary formatted anim? -GreG
>> as far as uploading Flics/AVIs do you have any recomendations on how to keep the file size as small as possible without any/minimal loss of quality?
Howdy Todd, Nice to meet you and have you here. You can use objects in 2.0 that were created in 3.0 and above, but you will not be able to access any of the imbedded STATES that may be in these objects. Also, I believe that subgroups defined in 3.1/3.2…
>> Does anyone know of ANYWHERE where I can get an output of a 3d mesh via stereolithography?
>> Can you believe I've only used it once? I dunno, maybe it's just me. I like to blow things up! -GreG
>> You can us bones to simplify this too. Umm, yes you can Sam. Thanks for showing me up. Just goes to show you that you can do it a number of ways….just too many darn options to keep track of! 🙂 -GreG
>> Oh yea, I forgot to ask the sales guy, Mike, if Imagine was planning on having or already has facilities for third party plug-ins. Do they?
Steve, Man are you gonna be in for an overload. Actually, since you are upgrading from LT it won't be as big an overload as it would be if you were upgrading from 2.0! Although texture/image tacking, states, and bones, 100+ textures, 12+ special effects, etc. are gonna open up…

>> Free uploads??!! Joe, Yep, otherwise what would be the incentive for someone to upload? >> Between my day job, Imagine, and KPT, it's a wonder that I have the time to write this message to you. Well, if you like creating textures with KPT, IM3.3 should keep ya even…
>> I am seriously thinking about upgrading to the Pro version of 3.0, but I've read around here that there might be a 4.0 coming soon? Do you know if an when it's going to be released?
Jim, I've seen many of those textures, and most of them in that library are not tileable. Some are, but many are not. Regardless, it is indeed another source for texture maps. Thanks for mentioning it. -GreG
>> I wouldn't mind at all. But first I have to figure out how to upload files using the program I have and then see how much it costs (I'm on a *very* tight budget these days). > BTW, if I upload maps, do you know if I'll be stepping…
David, Ummmm…what does a spiral nebula look like? If it's something that looks similar to a whirlingpool as seen from above, you can try placing the nebula.itx on a disk with several circle-sections to it, tack it to this default shape, then rotate the inner circles progressibely to "twist" the…
James, I'm sorry, the docs don't make it clear and I didn't mention the fact that frame 1 is used to maintain the relative relationships of the objects for reference that ASSOCIATION needs. Once you add all your objects, and define their ASSOCIATIONS, you need to leave frame 1 alone,…
>> Now all I have to do is find a way to use them Well Joe, if you are inclined to share them with people on the forum, I'm sure they'll come in handy and be put to some interesting uses. 🙂 -GreG
Pascal, Let me know how you make out. I know there is software to convert between TT & Type 1 fonts, but I don't know the names of them, though I think one is named "Fontagrapher." I personally haven't used them. My internet address is: greg.tsadilas@hofbbs.com -GreG
Key color thingy is just that, you specify a color that will be used for replacing it with another image/animation. If I had intended to do compositing, I would have rendered the animation against a unique color…one that was not part of the dino object. I don't know how AAPro…
>> I was able to make the object by spinning (or sweeping – I forget which), a spline shape…Live and learn.
>> Why does Imagine duplicate all these Amiga OS key actions? Ash, One of the reasons why Imagine on the PC doesn't use PC conventions is that the same source is used to compile both Amiga & PC versions, with the exception of machine specific routines. The other reason is…

Sam, Those streaks you get are because of the PLANAR mapping. Only way to avoid them is to not have any bump mapping happening on the image in those areas. Either that or restrict the camera to defined supgroups. You can always use the DEBUMP.ITX texture to remove the bump-streaks.…
#Stage Editor
Message #9280
James, A current limitation is that with grouped objects you cannot access any child objects in the stage editor. This may be changing in the future. For now, you can do what you want this way, using Imagine 3.0 and up…. 1) Break apart the head of the lamp where…

Joe, You need to use a GLOBAL reflection map in the globals timeline, or assign a reflection map to the eobjects in teh detail editor. This map can be any image, but for neutral types of reflections I use "plasma" types of images…..that is…white soft streaks or clouds blending into…
