Thanks — I download some of his stuff but have yet to look at it. Judy
I doubt if the exploded sphere would make it in 5 frames with 16 colors. Morphing between various iterations of Ripple with a low amplitude and the smoke Ipas seems to give a sort of "seething lava" effect — albeit no bubbles. I will keep that suggestion in mind for…
You are right — you can't do much with 5 frames — but that is all the game can have. And the size can only be 320×100. I can only use 16 colors! I got some fairly decent looking stuff (albeit no bubbles) using ripple with a low amplitude and…
#Bubbling liquid – HOW?
Message #71922
How do I make any kind of Bubbling liquid? Judy
This Lava unfortunately is not flowing lava — it is bubbling in a pool and I only have 5 frames to animate it in! How did you model your bubbles? DId you do it all with maps or what? Thanks Judy
#Making LAVA look REAL
Message #71805
What is the best way to make boiling LAVA and give it that bubbly appearnace? Judy
Thanks I will take a look at their meshes. Judy
Thanks — I will try that. You can see the result of SNOW & RAIN easier than explode and disingegrate. Judy
#Preview of AXP process
Message #70211
If you are doing an AXP process like explode/disintegrate etc. is there any way to "see" if you are getting the desired effect? Can you render say every "nth" frame to get a "preview"?
#Animation: joints
Message #70209
If I want to animate a person or an animal, how do you set up the "joints" so that when they are bent/moved/positioned etc. that they are covered by some sort of material. I realize that each "movable" part has to be made separately, but how do you "cover them…
Can you still assign pivot points and make it walk if you have done a boolean intersection of the joints? Judy
WIll Give it a try. I used the fit tool to create the path, but then when I lofted tht circle I got some odd results. Judy
Sounds like me. Mr. Gerstner abolished my division so I had very little choice but to take the pre-retirment leave from IBM. I suppose I could have accepted something in the "boonies" but I wanted to stay in the DC area. Personally I use PC-DOS 6.1. I have OS/2 also…
What does your basic mesh look like for water. I am just using a shallow box. Did you use the grid application or what for faces? In a shallow box there aren't very many faces ! I am trying to do the "Invisible City of Kitezh" which exists only as…
You must not be using Dblespace. Or the new Scandisk! To bundle such stuff in an OS is just one step short of criminal in my books — especially to make Dblespace.bin a hidden file! I would hate to tell you how many time I have to help users get…
It is not a question of something working it is HOW it works. Yes Windows works, but not very well! If you care about performance then leave Windows alone. Judy
Please remember Windoze is an application – not an operating system. Any app which runs under Windoze will run slower than WIndoze. The same app will run faster in native DOS or Native OS/2. Application which run other applications slow the apps they are running down. It is not necessarily…
#Relistic water reflec.
Message #68548
I am doing an image which is to be reflected in water. The image reflects fine, but what do I need to do to get that photo-realistic look which really needs to show the image break-up in the water. Neither wave or ripple seems to do that, unless I am…
Thank you for noticing and mentioning who were the real authors of OS/2 1.x — It was Microsoft that screwed the users — just like they are doing now! Judy
If you were so unhappy with OS/2 1.x why are you ladling out money for products from the same people who wrote OS/2 1.x — that programming companies name is MIcrosoft!!!
Well if R4 becomes an NT app — I won't bother to upgrade! NT is a mistake waiting to happend. Remember it was Microsoft who attempted to program OS/2 1.x — if you didn't like OS/2 1.x why would you buy products from the same people who wrote that code?
Given a choice of environment I think someone would have to be somewhat brain damaged to pick Windoze or NT. I prefer an OS that works not one that limps along! Believe it or not I manage very well without having a single Microsoft product on my system!
Of course, the ideal OS is ESA/MVS running on an ES9000. But back to reality means that DOS does a better job for 3DS than Windoze or it's planned successor. It's a shame to see people being taken in by marketing hype! Perhaps the US Justice Department will take care…
Clap, CLap, Clap, Clap!!!! Hoorayyy ! Good thinking there! Judy
Thanks for the tip — But am only on the chest now. Judy
Just another example of how bad/poor technology can outsell good with marketing hype! Judy
Thanks for the tip. I am working on the chest now. I need to have this horse run and jump. I was thinking of making a small cel from a bitmapped picture of a human head and using that hair. Judy
The resolution will be 320x200x256 — but the horse will be seen from different view etc. I am wondering what to do about the mane etc. Do a free hand draw and then loft it using a short path and then attach it to the neck? Hmmmm.
You are right it is kind of tricky. I discovered that I have to model almost every part separately — head, neck, ears, chest etc. etc. I do have one question — how did you handle the eyes and the nostrils ? Did you just use a bitmap or did…
I had thought that VGA meant 320x200x256. I have to use 1024x768x256 until I get a fix for XGA-2. I really don't like to run at 1024x768x256 because of the font size, but I have no choice. By the way I say where you had been making a zebra mesh.…
That answers my question. I have to run in 1024×768 to get the color box to work. I thought that perhaps the VGA meant 320x200x256. Judy
Selecting the Vibrant driver I can use the 1024x768x256 mode for my XGA-2 card. Also I have to use that mode in the main display in order to get the Object color box to work. It does not work if I select VGA mode. Thanks for letting me know. I…
#Object color creation
Message #66281
Whenever I try to change the default color by clicking on the "white Box" between the hold and fetch buttons in the 3D Editor, the Object Color Creation dialog box does not show 64 color buttons. Does anyone know what is the problem or how to fix it? I am…
3DS R3 Vibrant/XGA2 Bug
Message #65641
Brian — I am having a problem with the Materials Editor and I have narrowed it down to the point I feel that the problem is in the Vibrant driver. I have an IBM PS/2 using an XGA-2 Card. Using the memory map from the ref. Diskette I have the…
Thanks — I'll give that a try. My local dealership is no help at all! Judy
#3DS R3 VIBRANT BUG-XGA2
Message #65624
Am narrowing the problem down and it now appears as if it may be in the Vibrant driver. If I select VESA for the display source in Material's Editor and use my IBM SVGAVESA driver the mouse problem goes away, but the Palette is wrong ( I have never understood…
#3DS R3 Mouse Bug?
Message #65602
I have just tried making a boot diskette using only HIMEM.SYS, files, buffers, etc. and the mouse driver. I still get the same problem. I have a PS/2 Mod 80 and I checked my ref. diskette for used addresses by cards and I have the following info: Orchid Ramquest memory…
3DS R3 Mouse Bug?
Message #65589
I just installed 3DS R3. My graphics card (XGA-2) was on the Vibrant list so I selected that. From a visual point of view I am having no problems — palette is correct etc. etc. However, in the Materials Editor, my mouse leaves mouse droppings ( i.e little images of…
The point I am making is that most FLICS take up so much room that if you plan more than just the intro in a FLIC you must use CD-ROM unless you want to ship the game on 20+ diskettes. I am very interested in what you are talking about…
Are you talking about Nancy Fulton's book ? Judy
Alan — The 7th Guest from Trilobyte has had all sorts of compatibility problems. Over on GAMxPUB where I am a SysOp, there are constantly patches being uploaded and tons of complaints. My feeling about GD's method is that it is too CD-ROM based, and the majority of games are still…
I would be interested in something like that. Although I would use it for diskette based game. Just now a Flic played as a game intro takes up way too much room to use for anything else in the game other than the intro. I certainly can see a real…
There is actually quite a bit more difference. PC-DOS runs faster and the DOS kernel is smaller. Also the "bundled" utilities are different. I understand that the Boca Raton version was rewritten to increase speed and to make the DOS kernel smaller. The over-all level of optimization is higher for…
#Lights in Keyframer
Message #64695
Is it possible to "animate" the RGB or HLS values of Omni & Spot liights in the Keyframer? I would like to do a "sunrise" scene. Judy
How would you do the "water" in layers? I was doing my water in a large shallow box. I just increased the height/depth of the box and turned the city upside down in the larger box. I am not sure how I would make more layers. Judy
Are you including users of PC-DOS 6.1 in your beta testing? PC-DOS 6.1 is NOT just a mere clone of MS-DOS 6.0. There are some major differences!
Thanks — I didn't make the connection. Still very new at the stuff. Judy
I tried out your suggestion and the image rendered fine — but I lost that blurry, fuzzy quality of a real reflection in water that I got when I rendered it "above ground". I can get that quality if I render it through a hemisphere with a "glass" material assgined…
Yes it makes sense, and I will give it a try. I am only trying to render a simple still image. 3D Studio does a better job of combining palettes than does ANI PRO. Mostly I have been doing my compositing in Ani Pro — but this particular image is…
I am using R2 — I hope to have R3 by next week end. How does rendering it at 32 bit make it easy to move?
