Felix, Awhile back we had some discussions here regarding what adjustments they make to drives to assure they read CD-R discs properly given the various characteristics of various types of CD-R media. Can you enlighten us on what happens when someone sends their drive in to you for this type…

" Most of the reading I've done suggest that the Teac 4x drive only has the real life peformance of a 2x drive. Since you asked, I have some Plextor 4 Plex drives that never have trouble reading CD-R discs. My older Texel 2x drive won't read them at all…

" This is because different operating systems call a different number of bits a byte" Katherine, According to the binary base 2 system, it takes 8 bit to describe a byte. How can that be different based on operating system? Mike
Steve, The subject of the thread is insignificant to most of us who dl by lib # ie. S12/Nautilus. And we do expect for the most part to read threads at least loosely associated with the subject at hand. Please police this dribble before it becomes an integral part of…

Jim, PMJI, the power plug is for a drive if you don't have enough leads on your power supply, you should see about 5v DC from one of the pins with a voltmeter. I've seen this before on tape drive controllers. Mike

David, I have a Trident 8900 and it is *slow* but has good driver support including VESA. I also have a Diamond SpeedStar Hi-Color ($169.00 mail) which I like alot better. This is a 16-bit 32,000 color card. I also have a PAS which is better sounding than the SBPRO,…
Randy, The SpeedStar uses memory address B000 to B800 for 1024×768 res. Sounds like something else is stomping that. Try excluding A000-C7FF range in your memory manager. Mike
