< My tip for him was to animate the first and the second domino with accurate key timing (of course it's best to place the pivot at the bottom front, as your latest approach was). As the next thing I proposed to copy tracks to the following dominos. > Neat!…
#Dominoes
Message #196512
Does anyone know how to make dominoes, placed in a row, fall down in a chain reaction? I've tried doing it with Key Factory for a few days and couldn't get it to work with more than four dominoes. (I have DMM, but I don't think it can be used…
< … then again, Ed, you being the pioneer, you might do well to coin a new phrase for your innovations….> Gee, thanks, Dave, you give me too much credit. I've certainly enjoyed the last few weeks following in YOUR truly pioneering explorations of Animator Studio. I hated AS when…
Tileable spelling
Message #194766
I am putting the finishing touches on an article for the next issue of Planet Studio. The article describes a way to create animations that can tile a surface seamlessly. The animations are intended for use in 3ds as maps. Should I call them "animated tileable maps"? Or, is there…
From within AniPro I simply use "F5." In Windows I use "print screen." PixelPop can capture screens from within other progrms. It's described in the AniPro Utilities Manual. I've never tried it myself (no need). A few years ago I used Pizzaz (sp?) to capture screens. I hope the above…

Thanks! I've been picking up tricks from your articles also! I particularly enjoyed your last article on Animator Studio. Talking about Animator Studio … remember the discussion we had about how AniPro handled cels? I mentioned that AniPro did not necessarily load all the data when loading a cel file,…
Your work sounds very interesting. (Maybe one of these days I should come out of retirement.) I uploaded one before loosing my hard-drive: 1C02.ZIP. Ed
Thanks! But you are spoiling me and I'll be expecting your feedback when I get back into production. I can't tell you what's next. I don't know myself. Right know I'm playing with Animator Studio, AutoCAD and reviewing a couple of IPASes for Planet Studio. I suspect I'll take off…
IDE hard-drive capacities seemed to be increasing rapidly. Maybe quality is suffering. My problem happened when I took my PC on a car trip. I've done that many times before without any problems. But this was the first time with a 1260 meg drive. Ed K
Thanks. As soon as I replace the drive I'll have 1260 meg. available for new stuff (funny how that doesn't seem to be a lot any more). I want to look into outfits that restore data from bad drives. Any suggestions? Ed K.
Thanks for the welcome Bob! What have you been doing? I see the showcase libraries are in full use. Are we supposed to upload to "New files" or to specific libraries? Ed K

Some of you may have noticed that I've been gone for about eight weeks. During that "sabbatical" I lost a hard disk and was unable to recover the data (1280 Meg) from backup tapes. Specifically, I lost addresses added to my WinCIM address-file after April 94. I would appreciate E-mail…

Hi Gary. I just uploaded an animation created with my Particle System IPAS. If you think the animation has potential, as a waterfall, for SigGraph, let me know. Message #167426
Hi John: I finally finished replacing my hard drives, and placing ALL my work on-line (well, almost, one drive is removable and I have to power down to swap). I decided I had to do something when I started to work on the waterfall (for SigGraph). Every time I needed…
Waterfall/Liquids
Message #167425
Yes. And it should be easy to modify (but perhaps you should get someone else's opinion on that .) Blame "the root of all evil" . I had intended to upload two versions of "A Simple Particle System." The version for beginners, I used in an article I sold to…

I have put off answering my mail while completing a couple of articles for Planet Studio. I have to postpone answering even longer. I have been plagued by lack of sufficient disk storage for months and am about to tackle that problem. If I run into any problems, it may…

Your feedback on WATRFALL.ZIP is just what I need. Telling me specifically where I can do better is very useful. I'm glad that once you Oops! A button labeled "Continue" on that box is almost invisible (same color as the box). I should try getting more sleep before deadlines !…

Hi John Ellis et al: I've been getting questions on the subject of waterfalls recently. The following may be of general interest. 1. If you own TSE you already have my Waterfall script, it is called: WATRFALL.P3D. 2. There are NO instructions: just run it! All required items are created…
#Particles Away!
Message #163196
Unless there is information I need from you, I'd like to work on it a bit first (probably next week.) Ed K
Gary, Sorry about the delay. I was away playing grandfather for a few days. (I am ready to play with anything that doesn't need diaper changes!)
Thanks Anne! I appreciate your comments! Sorry about the delay. My grandchild (nine months old) achieved the impossible, getting me to take a break from computers for over a week! Ed K

< ….. , its used primarily in Video ,,,> Thanks. Its interesting to find out what real animators do Ed K
Thanks
I often want to select hundreds of objects (particles to me) based on where they ended up on frame 100, and delete them, or change their color or material (to track them). < a programmer wrote an amazing script to choreograph a bunch of heads doing a bizarre concentrator effect.…
Thanks Jim.
But, you can use TSE now, instead of having to wait for a version with more commands . I asked about QuickBasic in my note, because I talk about it, in an article about Keyscript for the next issue of "Planet Studio." In the article I explain how to add…
If? I'm almost done with what I was doing, and starting to get back to what I really like. Playing with scripts. I uploaded two more TSE sample animations yesterday. Descriptions attached. Let me know your opinion. You know that I set my direction based on the feedback I get…

Hi Jim/all: I am trying to put together information of scripts sources . Would appreciate a description of your bulletin board and any other sources that you know . Thanks, Ed K
Thanks a lot! I guess I must have done the right things on that animation. It had been sitting on one of my disks since december. I had given it a thumbs down because when I did it I knew even less about 3ds than I do now. I didn't…
———————————— I'm glad someone is using the TSE sample scripts! When testing that script I encountered a similar problem, but that was with TSE beta-code. I'll take a close look after Friday (I got an extension on the deadline for my article until Friday at 11 AM). But, the script…
Thanks a lot Mike! I appreciate your feedback.
> double the key times (use the Keyscale script) over and over, you'll move the keys that have positive times… into a negative time.
I knew you couldn't be objective! Ed K
Actually, I was referring to sliding "before" frame 0. The other case of sliding past the end frame can have a result just as interesting. If you double the key times (use the KeyScale script) over and over, you'll move the keys that have positive times, way beyond the maximum…
Thanks a lot! < Your dedication to experimentation is truly inspiring.> Experimenting is what I have always liked. It's surprising that I survived my early years in Costa Rica, a place where in the 50's, a 13-year old could buy ether, sulphuric acid or the ingredients to make nitroglycerin, at…
#Uncertainty Principle
Message #152347
In the new world of scripts you may encounter a variation of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. It all starts when you use a few script commands to slide the keys for an object. No problem, that works fine. Later, however, if you use the Key Info Dialog Box to change a…

Jonas: I just started looking at the utility scripts you wrote for "Inside 3D Studio." It's going to take a while! I just had to add the number of lines of code. Over two-thousand! (And that's without counting the scripts you coauthored, or are similar to work you've uploaded at…
