Thanks, Chas…. unfortunately, that's not a good solution… if they have to have an external box, then there's no advantage to using the PC card; they already have an external version that connects via the serial port. (talking about the BCD-4000 and BCD-5000 video controllers). Thanks a lot, tho! I…
well, maybe if a hardware type had a need for it for their own product, it would be worthwhile to produce/market. Biggest drawback is that it would take up a slot, IMAO. Would be nice to have it be 'transparent'. –Eet–
sounds great, John; looking to run a BCD4000 video controller card. I was asked about it when I dropped in there today, figured I'd investigate. sure would save them from designing an amiga specific equivalent (they've an external BCD5000 controller that is used with the amiga). –Eet–
dummy Bridge adapter
Message #8155
Does anybody know of the feasability of a 'dumb' bridge card? I need to use an IBM card in an IBM slot from the amiga side without the expense of a bridgeboard. Has anyone worked on this problem yet? Is there a solution? (a cheap one, natch ). BTW, it's…
Bill, I recieved my notice a short while ago, but, as I recall it was forewarded from my old address. I'll email you my new address ASAFP. Don't want to fall behind –Eet–
I just picked up a copy of "Computer Language Magazine"… cause on the cover it said, "Mmmmmm… That IS good Rexx".. I thumbed thru the article quickly, and up, Arexx is mentioned (the article is by Eric Giguere). Thought you'd like to know. 🙂 –Eet–

John, have you take a look at VLT? It uses XPR protocols, and has very powerful graphical terminal emulation. SLAC uses it to tie into their mainframes. Also, the XPR protocols (including the spec) are in the libraries. You might want to go that route for your own program. –Eet–

Bem, you didn't use what I thought the obvious reply was to, "why don't you do it better yourself"… You're too busy creating other nifty products to take the time to do it. At least, I hope you are. 🙂 –Eet–
Mark, IMAO, Ben prides himself on being frank. Personally, I find it an impossible way to behave. On Ben it fits. He doesn't intend to hurt people's feelings (at least I don't think so), but at least you don't have to worry about him giving false opinions. He's a bit…

DevCon in Denver
Message #5446
Maybe CBM could just ask the NCAA what region of the country the chosen DevCon city is in, each time? 🙂 –Eet–
Guess I'll never be a *real* hacker; only thing I find less appealing than the idea of eating oriental (especially raw fish), is going all the way to San Francisco to eat oriental raw fish. –Eet–
Hey, John… can you say, "Snob"? . Careful, or I'll start telling people what I saw you wearing at SIGGRAPH (hey, who said I could't hyperbolize a bit? 🙂 –Eet–
I believe that the population center of the US is somewhere in Iowa (Centerville?). Or maybe that's the geographic center. I tried real hard to forget such pieces of unimportant history. –Eet–
Hmph. Denver's too flat. Boulder's prettier, and Jackson… 🙂
Denver's okay, I guess. Little too close to the sky, but, what the heck, I have it on good authority that "altitude is your friend". Best thing about Devcon in Denver is that it's close enough for me to attend, and contains enough of my friends (and is close enough…
Brian, I dunno what your application is, but over in 'arts is a couple programs I wrote that use the speech functions. One is TALK3.ARC, (or .LZH?) and is for 1.3, the other is for 2.0 and is called TALKER.LZH. Both include sourcecode, the latter is better commented. good luck!…
John! Glad to see you over here, never thought I'd see you anywhere but the… other net you frequent. A sign that the level of technical expertise over… here is going up in general, I'm sure (hey, I can suck-up as good as anybody… 🙂 –Eet–
yeah… I'll believe it when I don't see it. (sorry, wayne's got me all… depressed ) –Eet–
How about a delete command accessible only via Arexx? That way, those who want to can add it, and those that don't, won't. –Eet– I disagree with every word you say, but I'll defend to your death your right to say it! Director of Mayhem — Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
Ahhhh. I need to find my copy of RoboCity (I could really really really use a still frame (or several) from it). Wonder if the source is available? –Eet– I disagree with every word you say, but I'll defend to your death your right to say it! Director of Mayhem…

I came in on the middle of this, but I'm very interested, cause I'm getting a lot of CHIP memory fragging (doing a lot of Bob allocation/deallocation)…. howcomefore a copper list would be the 'most common thing to find between two blocks of chip memory…'?
Help Unclip Bob
Message #753
I don't follow… of course they fade away, you've gone offscreen. The clipping rectangle of a Bob is pretty much determined by the rastport you attach it to; I'll go digging around, it's been a few (joyous) month's since I've messed with Bobs. –Eet–

Message #751
I use a program I got long ago called, "Startup". It lets me choose from up to 10 startup-sequences to use, and I use a different sound file for each so I know which way I booted without having to hunt. Other than that, I'm not sure of a way…
Uh-oh. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
John, I agree. I dunno how _big_ of a failing it is, but I think that it is probably the only thing I've ever envied in a Macinstuf. What about using the UofL board? Since it won't be Intuition compatible, it seems to me that one might possibly use it…
Congratulations, Greg! So, tell me…. has she learned how to use AmigaVision yet? –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
Hehehe… well, I was born in Dallas, and recently lived in Lewisville, TX…. all I can say is that particular Texan must be EXTREMELY near sighted. Iowa, crappy as it is, doesn't resemble Mars at all. No, I haven't seen your PC reviews in Compute PC, I don't get any…
Oh, gawd…. and here I thought there could be nobody _worse_ than Gould at the helm of CBM. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.

Betty, at the grocery store the other day, I saw Video Magazine… I picked it up, thumbed thru it, looking for the appropriate place… and found a mention of CDTV. Wasn't a glowing report, but it was favorable. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
Well, I suppose you could send CBM the hard disk and they could do the mastering… or, more practically, a tape-backup. I plan on using the Active Circuits magneto-optical drive if/when I develop for CDTV. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.

Which version of Dpaint? I think (maybe) Dpaint I used a non-standard file format, but Dpaint II and Dpaint III use standard IFF ILBM and ANIM formats… –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
There's the University of Lowell board that uses a TI34010, I think. It was both in the UofL booth and the CBM booth at SIGGRAPH. The Firecracker was also at the CBM booth at SIGGRAPH, but for some reason, I preferred the UofL board. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial…
hehehe. Glad you like OK… I consider Iowa the armpit of the world, myself . Glad you liked my bumper sticker (oops.. ). Hey, have you considered writing for DDJ? We were all hyped up over writing for them months ago, but nobody has, that I know of (no amigans).…
Judging from his other writing, if he cowrote the definitive guide to AmigaDOS, then it must be 1/2 about Epson or Apple or some such. For a "BIG amiga supporter", Levitan sure seems to hide it well in his columns. –Eet–
Sure thing. Haven't done any yet, tho. –Eet– Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.
This is great news. Periodically I get re-infatuated with Arexx (most recently with the new release of VLT). Maybe it's laziness, I want my computer to do all the work for me 🙂 (hmm… have BBS's autodoc-maker create the autodocs file and pump it to ProWrite, and have ProWrite use…
'all thru Oklahoma?? You DROVE to SIGGRAPH?? Geez, John, I'd have at least bought you a drink as you came thru OKCity! What time did you leave? I left Wednesday afternoon, as I recall. –Eet– (verra disappointed) Director of Mayhem Extra Terrestrial Imports, Ltd.

Clint, Ages ago, at AmiExpo Chicago 87, as I recall, there was for sale a spell checker called "Zing!.spell" or some such. Supposedly, it sat in the background and would flag mistakes somehow regardless of what program you were entering text into. Always meant to get that to use with…

James… YES! I love the enhancements you mentioned. Arexx support will allow me to use Cygnus Ed for a lot of the text editing I do, and 'import' it to ProWrite for addition to letters/reports/articles. An example of what I'm thinking…. "_look_ at that" I could have Arexx translate on…
