Wayne, Does this mean that you can't pair a 9g Seagaate with a 4G Seagate or a 9G whatever or a 4G whatever. Michael
Sharon, Thanks. I hope that NT will review your approach, because you may have developed a fantastic solution for those of us stuck with the Seagates. Michael
Flyer Tape
Message #111502
Chuck, I want to get my Flyer output into IBM machines for use in the development of CD ROMS. Are there any ways or plans to convert VTASC into MPEG – either directly from the AMIGA or the PC Toaster. Thanks. Michael
John, Thanks for your response. Perhaps, I didn't clarify. I have the Fast Movie Machine (motion jpeg card – a much cheaper card than the video machine DPR card. I want to use the Flyer to produce higher quality video/more special FX etc than I could using the movie machine…
Mark, See recent post on hard drive arrays. Maybe that's our solution. How's your big decision going? Michael
Sharon, I don't know too much about what you are doing but it sounds promising. I have some questions that I hope you might be able to answer. How much does an array card cost? Can you connect more than 2 drives? Do the drives have to be the same…
Fred, I think Fast DPR renders in real time similar to the Flyer. Michael
Hey Wayne, Fair, reasonable, constructive, positive. As an irate drive-owner, I like your proposal Michael
Your advice and that of others would be welcome. I am planning to develop graphics/other and HI-8 video materials in the Amiga flyer and port it over to our Fast Machine MJPEG card. Then, we want to develop interative presentations using full motion video – delivered from a laptop -…

Hank, Of all the issue that have bugged me about NewTek's behaviour, everything else I can accomodate myself to (grudgingly) except the hard drive situation. I like others overspent $2-3k on drives that don't work. I am sort of optimistic they will work out most of the other stuff. But…
Hank, As creator and guardian of the list – and with your contacts at NewTek – are you able to get information from them as the proposed functionality and time-frame of 4.1. Michael
Kevin, I look forward to my daily dose of Saperstein and Cole. Their intense bursts have, as far, as I can see only aimed at NEWTEK or persons really pissed at them – and I can hardly blame them in either case. I am generally a very positive person, and…
Just want to reinforce the utility of your suggestion to Chuck. Michael
#Record FlyA to FlyB
Message #110843
Chuck, Just thought I'd complicate your life a little more. I've modified one of Arnie Cachelin's AREXX scripts to allow me to turn on Flyer recording with an ICON and thus avoiding the normal clip record screen (a second script turns off recording and creates an icon). The advantages of…
You had best check the quality of flyer clips after restoring them. When you backup via Amiga DOS and NOT through the Flyer backup routine nasty things can happen. I noticed significant degredation when backing up Flyer clips with AmiBack to our Exabyte. — Russ Spencer / Michael Miloff &…

Sorry Frank, it must be getting late but I haven't a clue what you are talking about here (ignoring the spelling mistake "weh"). This tip sounds important but I don't understand your use of the term "clip icon gadget" and I really don't know what "adjustment" you are referring to.…

I'd even accept two 4 gig Atlases for one 9 gig NT Certified Seagate. — Russ

Fred, 4.03 has added a new element of excitement to working with the Flyer, CRASHING! Ain't we got fun, — Russ —
Scala Saves Time
Message #195602
Hi John, Just wondering about the following 1) Does Scala have any plans for links with Flyer files, e..g, so Scale could, for instance, call Flyer clips 2) How is Scala for the PC coming along? When will it be ready? Will there be any additional features it will have?…
Fast is in multimedia vendor a. I think its Go MULTIB or Go MULTIV. Good luck
Jeff, Thanks for your perceptions. I do hope – being the frustrated but hopeful owner of the Flyer – that they will get their act together. They have improved their act considerably since NAB, at least , in terms of communicating with people on CompuServe and getting out their next…
I don't but I have looked at it and a number of reviews and I will likely be getting it in the next week or so as it has received consistently positive reviews – like all products it has received its share of criticisms as well. I don't have the…
Jeff I am curious what strategic mistakes or "lack of big picture" thinking you feel characterizes NewTek's recent actions.
PMJI There is a MOVIE MACHINE PRO coming out supposedly in July. Its has some nice additional features, the details of which you can get from your dealer. However, there is no certainty it will come out in July and its more expensive than the plain old Movie Machine. Michael
Hi Henry, You're everywhere!! I will tell Russ about the InSync as he is looking into this issue. Thanks. Michael
The new PCTOASTER/FLYER is intended to be portable. I believe its about 18 inches by 6 inches by 6 inches. You carry it around in a bag and plug your camera into it. Michael
PMJI, but I am extremely interested in this issue. Could you or anyone advise me if there is a way (for under $1,500) to translate PC graphics (e.g.,Corel Draw), moving, fancy text, animation and presentatations using programs like ASTOUND to video tape which, when copied, will provide at least industrial…
PMJI with a question rather than an answer. Do you or anyone know if it is possible to get reasonable quality video output(say S-VHS/HI-8 quality) from a PC for non-video information. I am thinking here of graphics, moving, fancy text and the type of presentations that one might use programs…

Dan, Thank-you for your reliable reporting throughout this. But, hey Chapter 2 is just beginning.. Will you be reporting on this as well? Michael
Thanks Barb. Looking forward to it. Russ Spencer
Barb, If you still have any sample copies of VIDEO FILE left please send copies to: Michael Miloff & Associates 130 Carlton Street, Suite 808, Toronto, ON, Canada M5A 4K3 /and Russ Spencer, Next Generation Systems 3905 Bathurst Street, Suite 209, Downsview, ON, Canada M3H 3N7
Postscript: Check out Flyer Tips in The NewTek section of Amiga Vendors form over the last 6 weeks — there are lots of good, useful ideas here. Russ
Greg, Don't be so negative. Version 4 should be out by the end of the month and will correct many problems (they have to get it out before NAB on April 9). Versions 3.9 and 3.94 were after all Beta versions and were expected to be buggy. Say, why aren't…
#Wanted: Toaster 4000
Message #187959
Wanted to buy: Toaster 4000 CARD ONLY. (Price is a consideration.)
Fred, Right on re: dirves "grinding away". A wee bit nerve wracking. Odd noises on a computer are disconcerting. Just what do you mean by 'scrub'? I must have missed something somewhere along the line. Russ
Fred, We're still getting random stuttering too. If I can keep the project under about 7 minutes I can usually correct for it by eliminating split edits or using faster DVEs etc. Another fix that worked was to transfer a clip which always stuttered to my second drive – poof…
Wayne, I very much agree with you that the capacity to use lossless layering would significantly enhance the flyer. I also understand that the current version does not support it. I have thrown out some "crazy" ideas in the past as to how this might be done – and I…
If you don't mind, where did you get that price of $440.00 Cdn. Thanks
Thanks for the answer Mike. Russ Spencer
Although I'm able to back up my Flyer with no verify errors off my WarpEngine SCSII port I'll try your suggestion re: the Flyer C port to see what happens, especially if it makes any difference in how much time it takes to back up. My 9 gig drive took…
Pity. Are people actually creating human form models themselves in AM? Russ Spencer
Thanks for the answers. I'll get back to you later. Russ Spencer
I was afraid of something like that since HD space is at a premium. This does not negate my interest, however. Got your E-mail. Thanks muchly. Haven't been able to look at it yet since my Amiga is tied up with a long backup. BTW, do you have a NewTek…
Hey Tim, Here's another one that should be elsewhere. What about compatibilty or convertability with Animation Master on the PC? Russ Spencer / Michael Miloff & Associates
I answers 'em where I finds 'em. But thanks for the re-direction. If Imagine updates to support the Flyer I'll take a serious look at it. Russ Spencer / Michael Miloff & Associates
3D studio is great but chaep it aint! Russ Spencer
Thanks Michael, I was wondering about that issue and may consider AM for my work on the PC. Where do you get human models though for AM? I'd hate to have to create them myself. Russ Spencer / Michael Miloff & Associates
I was under the impression that if you tried to use BetaCam on an SC Jr your camera would tip over and your hand would fall off. Russ Spencer
What about E-mailing to our Compuserve number 72213,105? Can you use your sequences in LightWave directly off the CD-ROM or do I need massive amounts of free space on my hard-drive? Russ
