Glad to see ya here, Mark!:) Long time… Regards, Connie
#Siggraph, The Party Message #168310
G: what hotel will host The Party on wed. nite Aug 9 in LA? Thanks, Connie
Hi, Anthony. I believe that the deadline is in early June…(probably a good idea to check with the Yost Group on this info). I don't think I'll make it again this year due to recent work inundation that will require virtually all my time thru August…alas:). Connie
#163551 Flicker off PAR Message #163565
Hi, Steve. PMJI, looks like you had 4 coplanar faces, and after deleting 1 you still have 3. Try deleting 2 more…this should solve your problem, if I am understanding your problem correctly…good idea to HOLD before each deletion.
#160474 Mind's Eye Animator Message #160512
Hi, Tim. Yeah, it must be Sealy (I get Sealy, Serta and Simmons mixed up…):) As for the weather, it's been raining almost every day in the last month here…sunny California hasn't been very…the power in my building has been going on and off for the last 14 hours…I think…
Hi, Zack. I re-created your problem using 6 boards, and used the technique I suggested — result: the file size did not increase. (The vertex count did increase slightly from 48 to 54). BTW, your name's cool, too!:) Regards, Connie
Hi, Zack. Try this: set your boolean object, make copies of it (for however many boards you need to cut) in the same location (on top of each other), then do your booleans for each board with one of the copies…voila!:) If this explanation is unclear, let me know. Regards,…
#Mind's Eye Animator Message #160275
PMJI, Tim. Saw a commercial on TV for one of the mattress companies…the model lying on the mattress looked a lot like a Humanoid…is it? Regards, Connie
#159842 Skin 'n Bones Message #160068
Hi, Philippe. In addition to what Bill said, the Smooth function in Bones Pro allows smoothing of Selected Vertices also, thereby providing the user with more control. If there is any way to afford both programs, get both…IPAS 6 is pretty indispensable if you do special effects. I have both,…
Hi, David. I'm assuming that the animation you are doing is a walk-thru…right? If not, I would be curious!:) I'm hoping to make the reel deadline, too…well, back to work (not the whip!) Connie
Thanks, David. I did see Alan's message to you re: the limitations of Object/Attach…it's on my list of things to try. Incidently, noticed your winning Bedroom amid Michele's article in Planet Studio — good work!:) Regards, Connie
Thanks once again, Alan. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me…it's nice to have some structure…:) Connie
Thanks for the advise, David. I will definitely test out your suggestions along with Alan's and David M's. Regards, Connie
Thanks for the encouragement, Alan. I did some more experimenting and it would seem that varying the size (and shape) of a bone appropriately will help. David M. suggested using Object/Attach instead of Boolean-Union. This has worked well for him and does seem more logical — even though you are…
Thanks a lot for sharing your personal experience, David! I will use Object/Attach as you suggested. As long as I can still smooth the joints, this method may get me what I want without having to worry as much about unwanted influence. It looks as though every single vertex in…
Oops…nevermind Message #158947
Hi, Mike. Please disregard my previous cry for help. I believe that I have solved the problems with Alan Iglesias's pointers and review of the docs (I started the animation at frame 0…major no-no I know). 🙂 Regards, Connie
Alan, went back and reviewed Bones Pro docs and discovered the following tidbit that I had completely forgotten: "Do not change frame 0; start all animation on frame 1 or later. This is very important. If you change frame 0, Bones Pro will behave unpredictably." No kidding!!! I guess my…
Thanks, Alan! I did actually check the influence at one point, but it didn't occur to me that the default influence was as far reaching as it obviously was. I will check it out. I'm not exactly sure about what you mean by "size"…do you mean that each box representing…
Hi, Mike. I attempted to use Bones Pro to animate a Humanoid (Tim Wilson's) a couple of weeks ago, but after some effort, was forced to abandon it. My process went something like this: 1. booleaned/Union used on model to reduce to 1 object. 2. Created "bones" in the front…
#Isolating IK Chains Message #158412
Hi, Jonas. Actually, since you always recommend that automatic/follow object method be used, I was wondering when you, personally, would use the interactive method. Thanks for your clarification…makes sense. I have spent a great deal of time with flip.zip and have been able to clarify many of the confusing aspects…
Scott, as Jonas said, automatic IK is a LOT more effective and controllable than interactive mode, but interactive mode can still be useful…tip: select AWAY from joints you want to rotate. Also, remember how to get to Carnegie Hall…:) Regards, Connie
#157692 #Isolating IK Chains Message #157880
Jonas, just out of curiosity, what IS the purpose of interactive mode? Connie
David: minor point but you can rotate in 1/4 degree increments with a mouse in the Editor. Connie
#156734 Cel converter Message #156819
Hi, Douglas. There is a program called "Hijaak" that I believe will do what you want. Not sure of the publisher, but most software stores should carry it. Connie
Hi, Ian. Did you loft the "spiral tube" in the lofter using a helix path? If so, this should work as a boolean "cutter" as long as its length is greater than the width of the vessel. But it's unclear what you mean by "conform to the exterior of the…
#155153 Natural Materials Message #155279
Jodi, I have more info re: materials. The CD that comes with Inside 3D Studio contains all of the materials you listed (asphalt, dirt, grass) and more. You might want to check it out.
#154300 YG/NT deep background Message #154491
Actually, I'm a boza!:) Connie
Thanks, Gary! It still amazes me that you are so willing to spend so much of your time here, enriching our lives. I feel confident that this major decision is in our best interests. Your orientation is always positive, and it's catching! Regards, Connie
#153968 Natural Materials Message #154131
Hi, Jodi. Have you had a chance to check out the WCT cd that ships with 3ds3 & 4? There is an asphalt material and also a cracked mud material. As for grass, I haven't seen that anywhere…guess you'll have to create that from scratch.:) Hope this helps. Regards, Connie

#151013 #Background problem Message #151087
Hi, Elizabeth. I upgraded to an ATI Ultra (2 MB) which has been doing it's job. 2,000 miles is really a major move! I hope you have lots of help and support from family and friends. Regards, Connie
#150978 Keyscript Message #151084
Thanks, Ed. Yes, I really don't have time right now as I am pretty much swamped with several other projects begging for my attention. Regards, Connie
#150951 #Background problem Message #150981
Hi, Elizabeth. PMJI, but I noticed that you have a Stealth 24 card. I missed the beginning of this thread, so all I know about your problem is the subject. I had major problems with my Stealth 24 card that had to do with rendering display, FLC playing, and occasional…
#150973 Scalpel (?) Message #150975
Hi, Edwin. Thanks for the info on Scalpel. It appears this will be somewhat useful, but actually I was hoping for a real-time tool (kinda like carving actual material). Do see any possibility of a plug-in with this capability in the near future? Regards, Connie
#150972 #Keyscript Message #150974
Hi, Ed. I'll try to clarify by example. There are 2 animals in the scene whose starting positions are facing each other. You want them to approach each other and perform MIRRORED movements. I would like to be able to animate 1, then go to track info dialog, select whatever…

Hi, Ed. Yes, there is something I would love to see: a way to MIRROR selected elements in the Track Info dialog! Would this even be possible with a script? Regards, Connie

Scalpel (?) Message #149890
Hi, Edwin. Just took a look at the demo of the new SCALPEL IPAS. I am very intrigued — looks promising. Could you provide more information (i.e. how it works, and a projected release date)? Thanks in advance. Regards, Connie
#149779 #Winter CES 1995 Message #149842
David, I need to call Planet Studio and don't have the 800 number. Could you furnish this number correctly? (You will note that the number in your message is incomplete)…thanks. Regards, Connie

Hi, Michael. Glad I could help. Enjoy!:) Regards, Connie
#149196- #tried to remember Message #149400
Hi, again, Michael. The correct title is: 3D Studio Tips & Tricks Series. As the name implies there is more than one book (actually, there are 6 that I know of). Hope this helps. Good luck. Connie
#149235 #tried to remember Message #149399
Michael, I had trouble finding it here for a while (Marin county, CA), but did find it in an unlikely place: Egghead Software…(don't know if this chain extends to where you are…if not, call the 800 number and order. Connie

Hi, Mike. Did tutorial again, and this time it went fine — no problem! The only thing I can think of that could have caused the error message was accidently doing a couple of steps out of order, i.e. setting first deformation at frame 45 instead of 30 because step…
#148688 Puppeteer anyone? Message #148705
Bill, I understand completely — kinda seems like cheating — an easy way of getting something that takes you hours/days/weeks/months to produce the "right" way! I used to feel this way about models too, but have managed to overcome this self-imposed "rule" in one case — I'm using Humanoids in…
Thanks once again, Bill. Thorough explanation!:) I'm pretty together on the IK/Bones thing now. I'll be getting my copy of Bones Pro tomorrow! I'm hoping to have a "killer" character animation by April 14 (my personal deadline for this project). Regards, Connie

Thanks, Mike. OK, now I'm clear on this matter. I would really like to get Bones Pro — sounds like exactly what I'm looking for…just unsure I can really afford Digimation's price…this is a tough one!…:)………..hmmmm…..yeah, I'm gonna hafta do it!…..I'm getting a rush just typing this!. Thanks for your…

Thanks for the info, Bill. I'm more clear now…one more question: can you give me an example of a "deformation" one might use? Thanks!:) Connie
