> We're installing two Matrox MGI cards. < Does NT detect that you have two cards installed and offer the option of extended desktop? I'm just curious at what point you specify this option. I was hoping it might work with other cards too. — James — Choreo Motion —
Thanks for the suggestion, man, I'll give it some consideration.
James: We're installing two Matrox MGI cards. Some of the stations have the older Impression model; the newer ones use the Millenium. All running MGI drivers, except for the Intergraph TD's, which use custom Intergraph drivers. Apparently, Intergraph paid the $$ to license the necessary OpenGL code or something. I…
Aaron: We're using two Matrox PCI cards. Both their Impression and their Millenium models can be installed in this configuration, and their NT drivers support it. Works very nicely. JSH
> We have about 30 NT stations currently configured with dual screens < What display card and drivers are you using? — James — Choreo Motion —
Cool! Dude! Thanks for the tip! What type of dual port video card you guys use?
Aaron: I'm gonna guess that MAX *will* support dual screens, assuming your current Windows NT display drivers do. We have about 30 NT stations currently configured with dual screens, and all NT applications work across both screens. NT "sees" both screens as one, big virtual screen. You can size and…
That's too bad, since I have a 17", and plan to get another 21" soon. I just thought the addition of dual screen will be really helpful to some extreme people.
Hi Aaron,
#MAX Dual Screen
Message #196514
Max is really cool, and NT kicks ass. I'm really anticipating the 3D Glint family of powerful chips, and Open GL stuff. But… I'm just wondering, will MAX support the option of Dual Screen display? Like with one screen of commands, such as Material Editors, Track View, Core Components, and…

#Max Wish
Message #196308
Jonas, Here's a simple wish for MAX. When loading or merging meshes, materials etc., have the drive options go to "F" and not stop at "E". My setup has the 4 gig base drive divided 2/2 between DOS and NT. So the two CD drives are designated "E" and "F".…

Hi, Mark; Thanks for your reply to my question about how to rotate 3D models in real-time. Excuse me for being so late with mine. Yes the program I had seen this effect in was on CD. I had already considered your exellent suggestion to use Flics to rotate my…

How do I go about getting info to purchase 3d Studio and possible other AutoDesk software? Please respond as soon as possible. I am in the process of opening a business for multimedia productions. Thank you!

I would like to use MAX on PowerPC Will it be Possible? NT is already capable of running on a PowerPC.
Hi Peter, > I'm not familiar with stitching, is this a QT VR issue? > This is the next generation of 3DS being designed and optimized for NT. Please search the library with a Keyword "MAX" for more details. jonas[adesk]
On the subject of rendering from 3DS to produce images for the stitcher – how do you set up the camera in 3DS because you cannot set them to the recommended 15mm AND 97 degree FOV. Any advice as I am getting bad stitches and feel that this area is…
Yes, unfortunately I have already done so. I can if necessary remove my scanner to make room, or even the network card. Howver, this still wouln't solve the problem. Peter Landeck

How can you change the dimensions from MTEXT to DTEXT?
Just a thought but if you have an internal modem you can unplug it and buy an external modem. Perhaps you've already done this. Murph'

3Ds Max Video Post Wish
Message #194715
Jonas I am not sure how to forward this wish list item, but since you replied to the only other message in the topic area, you get it. When I was at SIGGRAPH this summer, and being wowed by MAX, there was one area that I thought still needed a…
Hi John, > Cameras are included in the open architecture also. jonas[adesk]
Hey Jonas, >The MAX import/export open architecture is available for developers. < Would this include camera types? It would appear that an "omni" camera would be needed, or else you'd have to stitch together lots of views in a MAX plug-in (which is better than, but pretty much the same…

#QT VR render- made easy
Message #194291
I know it's late, but I've been fiddling with QT VR files on the web, and would love to see MAX render one of these files in a click of a button, instead of having to get a MAC, and run all the images thru the stitcher, etc. A few…
Jerome & James, James & Jerome. Mmmm, nice discussion. It seems you have some solutions… What I though its aplicatte a good boolean math engine through the AXP interface to do the three elemental boolean operations when rendering: i.e. if I substract object A from B, and A is moving…

#Alpha support
Message #192533
Please put in my vote for Alpha support for MAX. This would be the coup-de-gras for 3D.
I know I won't be switching to MAX right away because my IPAS routines won't work with it and God only knows when they will be updated AND how much that will cost us. Moving to NT with R4 would be very nice, especially if we can use multiple processors,…
> Do you know anything about 3rd party mesh cleaning utilities? < As others have pointed out, Optimize is a good option. There is a demo version in the Libs that may help you decide if it's the kind of thing you're looking for. Alternately, there is TSE which would…

Hello Germany! Gary hasn't been on the forum — and won't be, for awhile, because we're busily working 3DS MAX. (And I'm just rushing thorugh here myself.) Hopefully, one of the forum sysops or ASoft regulars can help you with your question. Jonas will probably drop by to pick up…

Hallo Gary, we german people are too far away from all the news-pulse beating around the 3D-World (Siggraph, features, upgrades [never seen the upgrade R4c1] etc.); living on an island? So I remember about a question send to you, asked a long time ago: >>what's the currently best and quickest…
#Want Mesh Cleang Util
Message #192045
Thanks for the info. Do you know anything about 3rd party mesh cleaning utilities? Routines that reduce poly count may also do other useful operations .

>> I am looking for a database clean and fix utility to work with 3ds that would do the following: – Orient all normals in an object so they are facing the same logical outward direction.
>> You would also loose any keyframe data.
Actually, based on a set of messages in the script section, there is not a rename function in TSE. You would have to copy the object to the new name and delete the old one. You would also loose any keyframe data. LAM
I'm sure it would, but my scripting knowledge is at present limited. Anyone nice enough to do it and post it to Cserve? – Neil
I'm not aware of any fully automatic way of dealing with normals, but you might look at the Yost Group's IPAS Disk # 7. "Optimize" displays visible "vector arrows" along with a real-time shaded display to let you interactively flip normals for cleanup. The disk is available from 4DVision (Schreiber…
>> Is there an IPAS out there that takes a choosen number of objects (like a few hundred of them) and renames all of them to a prefix (like Object) followed by a number (In the form Object01, Object02, etc). Or maybe there' s a script.
