Sell me a CD-R!
Message #118727
>>My company has three CDROM titles now, and we're about to make a fourth.>The discs often contain Unix files, so I'll produce a Rock Ridge- compatible ISO image file with some software under Linux, working from a hard disk image. I'll e that ISO image to a CD-R.
Level 2 w MSDOS?
Message #91035
I've got an ISO Level 2 CDROM that I'd like to be able to use on an MS-DOS machine. There's a couple long directory and filenames on the disc that don't work well with MS-DOS. For example, there are directories named like "VEHICLES_LAND" "VEHICLES_AIR" and "VEHICLES_SPACE". These all appear as…
I solved my problem with the Viper and Toolbook 🙂 The answer was as simple as turning off the Viper's Turbo Palatte setting. I'm now happily running Nautilus/Toolbook at 1024x768x256 using the Viper's blistering speed 🙂 Thanx Peter Szymonik p.s. Next question – where do I find my Subscriber Info…
Surprise, the Viper drivers work fine. 🙂 I found the answer to my problem – its as simple as turning off the Viper's Turbo Palette. I'm now happily running Nautilus at 1024x768x256 using the Viper's incredible Windows speed. Peter
Linda – I use the ATI Ultra Pro at 1024×768 at 65,000 colors routinely with no problems. Ron

What To Buy/Problem NEC
Message #52950
We bought an NEC CDR-84J Drive 280MS 300KB XFER 63K Buffer from Insight. This drive within five months began intermittently running at high speed without a command so that it vibrated the computer case. We had it installed in a Tangent (IBM Compatible) 386 20MHz. We would be in Word…
Kyrie, To read multi-session discs requires not only a drive capable of reading sessions beyond the first, but also software that can handle multi-session as well. If the drive or software doesn't have this capability you'll only see the first session on the disc. What drive and software are you…

DISCIS mem reqmt-s
Message #52947
Is anybody successfully running any of the DISCIS Kids Can Read series under Windows? I tried to install one (from DOS) and it said I don't have enough lower memory to run it… even though I tweaked around to get it to recognize 543k. Good grief… how much does it…

Sorry it took so long to answer. The title we have on the market now is called Multimedia Shareware Explosion. It is a shareware disk with many fonts, sound files, games, and pictures. Several manufacturers are currently bundling it with their multimedia kits. The price for this disk is based…

Cd trade
Message #52940
I have these CDs for sale or trade: Ringworld — $30 Sci-Fi adventure game based on popular novel. Sort of a Star Trek feel to it. Composer Quest — $30 Multimedia educational game that explores famous classical music and jazz composers. Includes lots of sound clips of their work, plus…
There is no special adapter needed for the double speed drives. I think ANY SCSI bus-based adapter is MUCH faster than the double speed drives, so you don't need to worry.
Maybe one of your cables is at fault! Have you tried changing either or both the internal and external cables?
You can also get the Trantor SCSIworks! package, which will work with PowerSCSI and supports the CD50 Teac drive. It lists for $79, and includes support for HD's, HP ScanJets, Tape and more as well as the universal CD-ROM drivers.
I had two Texel drives. One had the symptoms you described, and they got rapidly worse; I sent it back to be replaced. The second drive had minor symptoms that went away entirely with the upgrade. In addition to upgrading to 1.09 of the firmware, i also upgraded my Trantor…

Karin, >>Hi Linda! QuickTime for Windows movies are very new to the marketplace. Ron, >>Well, I had the exact same problems you described with the Texel drives, and they didn't go away until I got the 1.09 version of the ROM chip.
Well, surprise: there are lots of folks having problems with "the latest drivers" from Diamond. They apparently haven't done a very good job with the Viper's drivers, I'm sorry to say. I monitor this forum daily (although I am not a Nautilus employee), and I see a message from someone…
Thanks, I look forward to hearing about the results…
The Toshiba 3401 is great. I just got mine and am pleased. 200 ms access time. Cost was $429-
Peter, please ignore the second reply regarding lowering your resolution and number of colors. I didn't see your answer to my reply until just now. I will keep working on a solution to your problem. Thanks for your continued support and patience. Karin Gall Nautilus Technical Support
Peter, GPFs indicate an incompatibility between your video card driver and ToolBook. Are you running in a high number of colors? If so, try lowering them to 256 or lowering the resolution to 640×480 or 800×600. Also, have you updated your video card drivers lately? If not, you might want…

Marcus, yes, in Germany they do have the 15 volume (6000 pages) Bertelsmann Encylopedia on CD-ROM, but do You know for what price they sell it? Halte Dich fest: 2,800 Geman Marks! If one compares that with the American 21 volume Groliers, which I bought for somewhat 200,- or so…

CD-ROM test software?
Message #52921
I use Norton Disk Doctor to check all distribution disks before installing software. Not often, but once in a while, I come across a defective disk and have it replaced. Is there a need to do this with a CD-ROM disc? Is there a reasonably priced util for this? Should…
Brian: Two that I know of: 1. There's a file VIDST.ZIP that has a program called VID_TEST.EXE that will test your CD-ROM's capability with a .avi file. I downloaded from CIS but I don't remember where. You should be able to find it using BROWSE. It doesn't gove you very…
Two that may help are Support-on-Site and Microsoft's new TechNet. They are both CD-ROM's that are sent out monthly.
#multiple session CDROMS
Message #52918
Hi. We are about to start producing CD-ROMs in house and I noticed in an article a comment to the effect that CD-ROMs that are produced in multiple sessions require special CDROM readers in order to read all of the sessions. Can anyone here expand on this? One of the…

According to my Visa bill I bought the Hyperglot Berlitz Italian CD-ROM from PCZone. It WAS NOT in their catalog. I called them up because they had the cheapest upgrade to DOS6 and while I was talking to them I ask about the CD. I had seen it elsewhere for…
