I need to make some cash, so I would consider getting rid of an SQ5110C and 4 – 88 MB carts. (And one 44MB cart.) What is it worth to you? (I know the prices have dropped considerably recently, so I'll have to do some research to find out how…
Percepiton GPI trigger?
Message #190034
Has anyone figured out how to use the GPI input/output connectors on the Perception card?? (I'm moving lots of stuff from my PAR, and it would be nice to trigger the PAR when I start recording the segment on the PVR.) I've looked in the manual, but can't find anything…
Thanks for info about HIIP loaders. Getting images out of LW isn't a big concern for me, but it's good to know all the bases are covered.
Yes, if you have an Ethernet connection, with TCP/IP, you can FTP from the PC directly to the DDR: drive on your A4000. (The PAR even takes TGA directly, though you can save to IFF since the files are smaller.) If you upgrade to the PVR, be ready to wait…
If you have AmiTCP running, then you've got everything you need on the Amiga side. On the WinNT platform, you have to install the TCP/IP networking software that comes with WinNT. give it an IP address, and you're ready to go. Oh yeah, you'll need a couple of Ethernet cards,…
Sounds good! BTW, I'm trying to find LHANT (LHA for WinNT – supposed to support full filenames), and checked out the NewTek BBS. There's a copy of LHA for Intel there, but it truncates the filenames to 8.3 characters. It sounds like a real handy utility for LW users moving…
Thanks for the info – it explains why you got your board so quickly. I'm, still waiting to hear about my backordered Perception recorder – and it sounds like I'll be lucky to get if before the NT drivers come out….. BTW, have you found the LHANT utilitity that they…
God dammit! I ordered my card at the same time, and was supposed to receive it after SIGGRAPH! Now they can't even guarantee it by the end of the month! I never had trouble with Safe Harbor before, but they're going to get an earful tomorrow!! I guess I'll have…
"..trying to state were NewNet sits as far as Multimedia from where I sit. I am not in fims or TV, but games." One man's facts are another man's folly. Glad you could offer your opinion. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
Chuck: A little off-topic, but you mentioned HIIP…. What sort of HIIP savers will ship with 4.0? Will other savers be available for free? (Or is this why Elastic Reality is so happy to have HIIP in every program? };^) Thanks! Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D…
Ack! No more lawyers!! :^O It sounds like NewTek has made a decent compromise. I haven't had a chance to check the notice yet, but the rumours sound right…. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
Just happy to hear that you will have a permanent site for upgrade information. Also glad to hear that NewTek has chosen to, again, try to be responsive to the needs of their most vital asset – their customer base. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction…
If you can wait until Oct. You'll be able to read an article about it in VTU. It includes step-by-step instructions on setting up TCP/IP for the Amiga and Win95 or WinNT. In a nutshell: If you're making a one time leap from the Amiga platform, look into TwinExpress, or…
How long ago did you get it? Safe Harbor, and DPS-America both refuse to give me any sort of estimate, short of 'maybe….at the end of the month.' If they'd have let me know before SIGGRAPH, I would have tightened the screws on DPS. As it was, I still have…
Let's not get into a religious war. I delete enough of those threads from comp.graphics…. If you feel differently, great. I don't give a rat's ass whether it's in the 'lead' or not. This is a NewTek/LW forum – I was trying to be polite. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom…
Yay! That's more like the old NewTek we knew! Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
"My point is, that they ended an upgrade offer, before the product was even finished, and notified _no one_." That's almost exactly why I think they've made a terrible marketing decision! (I had heard about the price increase about one week before the deadline passed, but they sure didn't try…
Where the hell did you get your Perception card?!? I ordered mine from Safe Harbor 3 weeks ago, only to find out now that they "might get _1_ in at the end of the month, and there are 8 people" ahead of me!!! Thanks for the tip about bus speed!…
I went for a Micron Millenia. (They seem to be this year's favorite clone maker.) Ack, never considered that the Perception might not fit! (Oh well, it won't be the first time I hacked a case! }:^) Bad news on the Perception though! I ordered it 3 weeks ago, and…
LightWave does still have a lead – but as you point out, the competition is running pretty fast….. HIIP should solve your image/anim output problems. Elastic Reality seems to be interested in giving away the interface just to set a standard. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D…
Chuck: To your credit, I was aware of everything you just posted, so the message is getting out there. Keep up the good work! I can understand Michael's confusion, though I had a feeling he was misinterpreting parts of the current upgrade policy. Your text file should solve all these…
I've got the Warp from Macrosystems – they say I'll have to send the board in for an upgrade if I want an '060. (Not what they said when I bought it, but is that a surprise?) I'll be getting my 133MHz Pentium this week. Eventually, I'm going to have…
And the rumours continue……… I'm just glad I haven't bought DEC, yet! Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
Thanks! I can understand your frustration – at least all your clients upgraded before the deadline. (It was hard enough explaining it on the show floor. I'd hate to be the guy who actually sold the stuff!) I haven't looked closely at the original offer. Was there ever a NewTek…
Please forward that message to Sean, as I'm sure he'd appreciate it! I, alas, didn't enter anything. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
I got to see a little show about the project at SIGGRAPH (missed out on Richard Hart trying to look fascinated about a big fat digitized dead guy! }:^) I have a friend who has access to a free T1 line….Never found out how big the database was, though…… It's…
You're running the same speed as my 'Warped' 4000. I just saw the 'Cyberstorm' and thought 060….Oh well…. Good Luck! Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
Oh, I'm not upset. The sucker who runs out and buys 3.1, thinking all his GVP problems will be solved might be, though…..}:^) GVP Gemany might be a reliable source, but I _rarely_ found the US tech support to be 'reliable'. And, I'm sure 3.1 fixes alot of system bugs,…
Whatever, I hope you get the upgrade you want, and didn't just give NewTek some money because they scared you into buying without notice. NT has to remember that they aren't on the Amiga platform. On the PC, They've got real competition in the field of 3D rendering. It's not…
Vent away! I wouldn't blame you for jumping to another package, if only to spite NewTek. Surely NewTek must realize that they'll probably lose more customer's than they could ever replace with the extra few hundred bucks made on the packages sold. (You figure if only 2 out of 3…
Wayne: This doesn't have much to do with the project this guy needs solving, but it was so, …uh…., fascinating I thought I'd bring it to this thread. There's something going on called 'the visible human' project. Sponsored by the Nat'l Center for Atmospheric Research (of all places), they took…
Maybe the $12Mill is coming in the form of free NT licenses? }:^)> "Oh, what a tangled web we weave….." Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
Maybe if you keep the 'upgrade' unopened, you'll be able swap it for the platform of your choice in the next week or two? As you pointed out, the only messages about it have been contradictory, and the 2 week 'warning' was basically worthless. Oh well, they've got us over…
I already got my upgrade, but I'm behind you poor guys 100%!! I think that it was _very_ unprofessional to weasel out on their upgrade offer without any prior warning. While I understand that this might garner them a _few_ extra dollars in the short run, they will be hurting…
Well, it was fun, but I'd sure hope to see some better forensic simulations. (As comic relief, they served quite well…..) Congrats on the Stephen King piece! It was definitely one of the better ones there. Personally, I liked some of the compositing stuff by that german(?) group. Did you…
#Alpha Negitives?
Message #118877
I heard a rumour last week that DEC and Microsoft had come to some sort of agreement where all DEC platforms would be bundled with WinNT, or something to that effect. At least it's a more plausible rumour to spread around…..}:^) (Maybe it was the genesis of the 'buyout' rumour?)…
Hilary: What version WorkBench are you using? Last I remember, you don't have the required software drivers for the CD-ROM? (They only come with WB 3.1) There's a shareware CD-ROM driver package here on CIS that I tried (AmiCD?), and it seemed to work OK, so you'll need to get…
Thanks, Chuck! You read my mind! (Since you answered my question before I even had a chance to ask it! :^) Keep up the good work! & Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom – ELF Works 3D Construction Co.
You'll have to pardon my previous message. It might have come off a _little_ harsher than I'd meant it to. }:^) There are a lot of 'startups' out there who love to call and try to milk me for as much free info and stuff as they can get -…
Hilary: Do you need the CD-ROM software for your Amiga? BTW, the shareware driver up here seems to work pretty well, to! Have Fun! };^) Erik Flom
I hate intermittent problems like the ones you're reporting, since they almost impossible to isolate! I wish you the best of luck in trying to track it down. Is there any repeatability to the crashes? Anything that might point to a software or hardware related bug? As you said: "Oh,…
Yet another file type to save your image as: Look at the 'ReadPict' and 'WritePict' operators. They will save your image out in a Macintosh PICT format that you can then put onto a LoDensity IBM disk, and transfer to a Macintosh. Actually, you'll probably have the best luck saving…
Actually, this may still be up in the air!!! Your questions prompted me to actually see how the SN panel worked, and I realized that the menu button wasn't there?!? When reading the manual (Shows how desperate I was! :^), it has a section for ScreamerNet, but the section begins:…
I just checked the Xetec CD driver disc, and they claim to support the drive. They mention a problem with the CDS-435, with ROM version M60, but no other Chinon models are cited as having problems. Sounds like you've got a winner! (And you can always take it back easily…
"you're petty, dull and mean spirited." Now there's a good way to start another thread _vital_ to NewTek users. Why don't _you_ learn how to 'SKIP' messages, rather than berating other people. I for one, enjoy listening to people argue the (relative) merits of the Flyer. I DO NOT enjoy…
Bruce: I was concerned about this too, but was reassured by Chuck B[NewTek] that you _can indeed_ run up to 8 machines using the currently existing 'ScreamerNet' interface on the LW standalone for the PC. I haven't used it, but I was told by NewTek that _one_ license/dongle will allow…
I understand why your GVP is working fine – no external devices. I found my A3000 flakey without the onboard terminators, but never saw the yellow screen that you keep getting. (Sounds like something not related to the SCSI, though….thermal intermittent, loose chip?) Erik Flom
Thanks for the old file anyway. I just wish I knew where to find a list of screen colors for the A4000.. Thanks, Erik Flom
