#193923 laptop & interactive Message #194106
Thanks. One big problem, however, and if you have any ideas I won't see them in time (off Thurs. am for the presentation) -> Using the Animator Scriptor, we can't get the script to quit looping after initated. I want it to run the script once and then exit out…
#193699 #laptop & interactive Message #193898
Thanks for the reply. I gave up on the laptop speaker after only 50% success. The 16 bit sounds are just so pleasent on a real system that I dropped this issue. Insofar as the interactive presentation…we are trying, believe it or not, FoxPro. Radio buttons can be configured to…
#193640 Creating Landforms Message #193654
Personally, I use QuickSurf from Schreiber. It runs inside of AutoCad and is quite competent. It is, or was around $850 when I purchased it a few years ago. Good Luck, Chris
#laptop & interactive Message #193647
Two quick questions regarding Animator Studio: 1. can Animator Studio be used to develop an interactive presentation? One where particular icons can be pointed to and cliked by the viewer to initiate different animations? 2. can the Animator Studio bundle be configured to run a presentation (with sound) on a…
Just a quick thought…could your problem be related to "superblack" in the options window? I know that matte objects are slightly visible when rendering using "superblack". If I use a matte (over a black background) or your mentioned opacity/vary.sxp technique, I never render over superblack. Good luck, Chris
#192063 Novice's 3d question Message #192566
In addition to Ted's reply… If for what ever reason you must have a three dimensional lofting path, I find it helpful to create a 3D guide in the editor. For example, I needed a pipeline that was lofted so that I could use an animated texture map along the…
In addition to Ted's reply, check you shinny values in the material editor for the materials in question. Many of the material which are called "matte" have shinny values of 5 and 24. This can cause unanticipated hot spots as well. In many cases you may want to knock those…
#189883 Montana Nodes Message #189904
No. I use the local access number, at 2400 baud, which is free of additional surcharges. It's painful, but I'm really cheap! Chris
#189699 Cool water bump map Message #189708
1) I didn't realize that uploading was "off-the-clock". Thanks. 2) I have not tried using a faster node in another location. It is certainly something to consider. I am still hoping that Helena, MT will make the CIS upgrade list, sometime! Thanks again, Chris
#189592 Cool water bump map Message #189707
Good point! I will certainly try to upload some version of the final result. thanks, Chris
#189356 #Cool water bump map Message #189493
I would love to post something, but my local access is only 2400 baud. This basically prohibits me from up or downloading anything of significance. I would like to add, that for the cascading portion, over the weir, a series of boxes using the IPAS Rain, is beginning to look…
#Cool water bump map Message #189307
Hi Gang. I just ran into a neat way to make custom water and I thought some others might be interested (especially those of us without Noise2_.ixp). I am needing to animate water filling up in a tank and then spilling over a weir. I'm not quite there yet, but…
#188787 noise2? Message #188871
Thanks for the info on Noise2. Chris
#noise2? Message #188687
Can anyone provide some information regarding NOISE2_.SXP? I am particularly interested in how to obtain it. Thanks, Chris
#187804 .tga files using vp Message #188251
Change your palette to either medium or custom. It sounds like you are using "high", which will render those peskie targas and reduce the flic colors after the entire video post sequence. Good luck. Chris
#186244 shadow hair-pull Message #186485
Thanks. I admit that generally it is my practice to turn off shadows casting attributes to the ground plane and such, but it is not alway foremost in my mind. I shall try to move it up in the stack and hope that nothing of importance pops off the top.…
#185764 #shadow hair-pull Message #186010
Thanks for the tip. Was this in reference to flashing shadows when shadow mapping? or in reference to the rendering time required when raytracing or using a large shadow map? I just want something that yields a reliable shadowy mass for instances when you cannot afford to raytrace! Thanks, Chris
#185726 #Critique Message #186009
I understand how difficult the task must have been. I still beleive that a quick and dirty critique, and I mean really quick and dirty, is deserved given the amount of time that submittor spend on these. There. I have officially made my statement on this! Thanks, Chris
#185458 #shadow hair-pull Message #185542
Thanks for the reply. I will certainly try your suggestion. It still leaves us lost for a shadow methodology which provides some shadow without the time required to raytrace. In the mean time I will continue to use my Canadian cost conversion for projects with shadows: "double it and add…
#185346 #Critique Message #185541
I have the name at work. It was Bill "something". In fact, based on at least some of my activity here on this forum, he called me and asked if I wanted to submit something. I hate to bug him at work. I don't want to sound sour; I'm not.…
#185477 #Critique Message #185540
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I realize that there must have a been a zillion entries. I also realize that a detailed critique would greatly extend the amount of time it presently takes to put together the demo reel. However, just to receive a form letter doesn't balance…
#Critique Message #185324
For those of us who submitted animations for the demo reel, and were not selected for inclusion, would it be possible to receive greater detail on what about the amination keep it from being selected? I ask only because it would be helpful for future work. I would greatly appreciate…
shadow hair-pull Message #185323
I have finally reached my break point! Help! Why is it that if you want a clean animation, with shadows, you have but basically one shadow choice – raytrace? Regardless of the endless permutations of settings for mapped shadows, they always flash somewhere in the animation. If you blast the…
Hello Lee. Are you looking for a person to relocate or would you entertain the notion of freelancers? Chris Martin PRC-EMI Multimedia Group Helena, MT
Super! Thanks for the info. Chris
Could you please provide me with your dealer's name and phone? Does Fargo sell their products directly? Thanks T.Chris
I remember a few months ago there was some info floating around about the FARGO dye-sub printer. I have since lost the info. Can someone send me in the right direction, again. I believe that prices and distributors were mentioned. Thanks, T.C.Martin
#177970 PAR for sale Message #178176

#177417 PAR for sale Message #177518
I ran into the "other" Chris Martin a few months ago, here on the board. We some some e-mail back and forth. It is was interesting. Actually, right after that I started getting lots of mail intended for him. Since then I have gone to T. Chris Martin. Still some…

Montana 3ds training? Message #172789
SW, We primarily do technical animation for government agencies. We also do some local and regional commercial work, technical illustration, contract modeling, etc. Didn't you used to live in Helena and run an educational software authoring firm? Didn't Jeff Thomas use
#171233 Montana 3ds training? Message #172137
Hi Guys. Sorry to jump in here, but I guess I can add something to this story. The young lady that is looking for 3DS training here in MT works with me. It is kind of a long story, but I think since our company is goofy regarding training expenses,…
#166185 wavefront rates Message #166532
Thanks for the reply. Only in my dreams could I ever expect to get that kind of reward for my work. I actually thought that with all of the new IPAS routines and a new animator down the block every month, the prices listed would have dropped significantly. We just…
#wavefront rates Message #165733
Several years ago, in a flyer for the IPAS disks, a set of generic rates were presented for "Wavefront animation (to Betacam SP tape)". Do you remember these? Well based on all that has happened to the industry since then, I am very curious as to waht these same rates…
We are just about to finish a 30 second TV spot for the local cable company where we had to fight these same battles. Brandon's suggestion is exactly what we ended up doing. We used seperate project files for the close view of the city and the far away shot…
#157802 scaling crash Message #157934
We aren't running smartdrive and we haven't contacted our dealer yet. This was and is my first stop for problems like this. Will try your suggestions straight away! Thanks, Chris
#157750 #scaling crash Message #157798
sure. whenever we merge an object from a 3DS or PRJ file and have to grossly scale the object up or down, we are in trouble. the problem doesn't occur until we jump to another module, like mat. editor, and then jump back. the result is very large, wild triangles…
#scaling crash Message #157701
just checking back for any new news regarding my crashing problem (gross scaling on merged objects). Didn't mean to sound grumpy on my last response to you regarding re-loading program and checking for viruses. We did a full virus check – no problem there. We did not reload due since…
Hi Andrew. Regarding your inquiry for "rough costs" for this project, can you provide more information? For example, length of animation, resolution, desired output medium, and timeline? I interested in your project, but need more of the above information before I would feel comfortable giving you a cost estimate. Thanks,…
switcher/router Message #157679
I need some help identifing what to look for regarding an a/v router. We have enough stuff now that PP (personal patching) is getting too painfull. We have the following: 1 betacam 1 VHA 1 Hi-8 2 NTCS monitors (one for each of us). There are two of us and…
#156636 Scaling bomb Message #156728
we check for viruses on bootup. haven't reloaded 3DS because we are two-for-two on different systems with different copies of 3DS. sounds embedded to me.
#156603 Scaling bomb Message #156727
will check drivers. thanks
#2036- #morphing package Message #3371
Sorry about the last response being so short. I bumped the "file it" rather than the "send" and didn't realize it until I went to log off. Anyway, I have now had a chance to read the thread so far and can honestly say," Wow!", again. That was fun. Glad…
#2036- morphing package Message #3370
Oops, hit the wrong icon. Did my initial response go out? Anyway, in short: heard back from only one or two people, bought ER, due any day. I am looking forward to reading this thread, though. Looks good! Thanks
#Scaling bomb Message #156584
Has anyone else noticed this possible bug. After merging an object from another #DS or PRJ file and then grossly scaling that object, either up or down, I will get a software crash if I leave the editor, go to another, module for example the mat. editor, and return to…
#151820 Msg in a bottle Message #151880
Opps, I replyed to the wrong guy and deleted the thread. Can you pass this on? Thanks. Just a thought – use Jonas' idea regarding slightly larger cloned object, but check out the waxpaper image from the world creation CD. This makes a great bump map for lots of things,…
Admittedly I have an obsession with these bars. For some reason, I am absolutely stuck to the notion that if I can provide "post-production" with good bars, then they can adjust my animations when going to "on-line" such that the quality is as good as we can get. Well, based…
#151015 world map Message #151097
Thanks. Actually I placed a querry there ae well and the original uploader mentioned the same file to me. It is called BIDWLD.GIF. Resolution is 2048×1024. Too big for my 2400 modem, will have to retrieve it from work, but can't wait to see it. Thanks again for the tip!
#world map Message #151014
Has anyone run into a nice, clean photo/map of the world? Obviously something that would map on a sphere would be the first choice, but an image that would go on a circle could also be used (one sided). I would appreciate any leads. Thanks
