Clark, The only way to make a light visible is to create an object and set it as a light in the detail editor. Try making a light bulb and putting the axis where the filiment would be. Don
Troy, I called Impulse about the boing that doesn't boing. They told me to send them my demo disk and they would put a new boing on it. I did, and got a "boing v.2" which seems to work fine. Don

Imagine 2.0 Blues
Message #33469
And if you are using it professionally, with a heavy emphasis on logos, the selective edge-by-edge phong shading alone was worth the price of the upgrade. Not to mention the point re-sizing and manipulation. And the altitude mapping that works. And the DCTV support. And the… But you get the…
John, I have been using a lot of Interfonts in Imagine. I had some problems with version .9 (although I don't remember specifics), but I have had no problems with version 1 of Imagine and interchange objects. Don
Joe, No, when editing a brush, the World is defaulted. If you change a size in one direction, you will see the axis change, but if you press the space bar and then try to re-edit, you will see that the bounding box did not stay changed. If you change…
Joe, I ran into the same sizing problem. It turns out that you have to set the Local rather than the default World setting when resizing brush axis in just one direction. Not logical, but it works. Don
How do you think the programmers feel who probably think they beta tested EVERY NEAT, NIFTY THING this program can do, and us end users keep pushing it to new limits. For instance, it frustrates me that brushes and textures don't morph (they just change abruptly in the last frame),…
It's just dumping duplicate points and edges that are in IDENTICAL PLACES, so you lose nothing on the picture.
It just occurred to me you might have wondered where "Merge" is. It's in a pulldown menu in the Detail editor, about halfway across. The Amiga's at work and I'm at home, so I can't get more specific than that.
Select the object and select Merge. That's it. If you want to see how effective it is, save the "unmerged" object, and while both the old and new objects are in the detail editor, hit right-Amiga-F. You will see the difference in the point and edge count.
#Imagine Merge & Snapshot
Message #21496
As I use Imagine more and more as a professional tool, I see a need for a more thorough manual. I am sure you left some of the features out because you did not have them in the version you were using when you wrote it. Examples: After facing an…
John, I think it should work the way you describe. However, if you go BACK into Detail and change something involving size, angle, or position, since the old settings are in the Action track, your object runs into trouble. You make a big cube with a little axis, put it…

#Rotation in Imagine
Message #21276
John, Changing Attributes is independent between Detail and Stage. But the Action editor has information (size, angle, position) that can differ if you change them in the Detail editor. Don
#Assigning Function Keys
Message #20624
Rick, I have left a message here and also on the Impulse answering machine without result, so I'm gonna try again. Can you tell me the syntax that is used to assign function keys to specific functions in the CONFIG file? There is nothing in either manual that explains this,…
Scott, Hit Right Amiga – F in the detail editor and get a list of points, edges, and faces currently in that editor. Don
Use PAUSE 5 if you want it to pause 5 seconds. Or whatever number you enter. Don
Andrew, I responded "calling locally" (though I wasn't) and got a human voice. Unfortunately, the answer to my question wasn't a happy one. I keep getting "edge too close to edge" error messages when trying to slice (and thus add faces to) a complex logo, and the suggestion was to…
Rick, A few more discoveries & questions not in the manuals: 1) What is "Import" on the Project Editor. 2) What is the syntax for function key assignment in the config file? 3) Changing the path for anims or pictures in the requester does not work. It turns out that…
Joe, I have never seen Lightwave, but Imagine 1 (like .9) has a 4th screen that you can rotate the view 360 degrees in. Don
#Version 1 Comments
Message #20120
Rick, I got version 1 today, and as I sit here concerned that Exploding logos are gonna become a cliche (what a neat feature!), here are a few comments: 1) Although I've only started and skimmed it, the tutorial seems really well written and illustrated. Congrats! 2) Ham interlace quarterscan…
Brad, I kept having similar problems, and think I stumbled on the solution. when you read this, you will see that it may or may not be a bug, depending on the final instructions. Load your star into the Detail editor, and using Transformations position it at 0,0,0, and save…
Rick, Thanks for the info. I hope they got the bugs out, in that case. I've had a few crashes while quickly loading attributes onto a bunch of objects. The whole thing just freezes. Don
Steve, I am using the .fp version. Did you select your object (turn it blue) first? Don
Steve, You have to first pick a mode such as "Pick Points." Then use Hide Points to draw a rectangle around the points you don't want to deal with. Don
Apply in Imagine?
Message #19844
Rick, Is there a way to Apply or Cluster in Imagine so that the attributes of a whole bunch of objects can be changed at once? I have been loading them from the Attributes Load and Save selectors, which seems to to be the only way. Don
Dirk, Please see my message #19778. Don
#Rotation Question
Message #19779
Rick, A question on a simple 360 degree Z axis rotation of an object. I don't know if it's a bug or something I just don't understand. If I just set Allign at -360 degrees in the action editor, it just stays motionless. If I make two tracks on Allign,…
#Brush Wrap Tips
Message #19778
Rick, I saw some comments here on problems with brushes, and your comment that the Y axis should be sized at 1. I thought I was getting the hang of the brushes, but this puzzled me, so I looked back at things I had done with them. This only refers…
Morphing Unequal Objects
Message #19758
Rick, Here is a somewhat klugey approach to morphing unequal objects. Perhaps you or somebody else reading this can find a more elegant way (actually, the Point fix is pretty clean, it's the fact that you have to have the same amount of Faces that makes it more time consuming).…
Rick, It looks to me like the "temporary" movie that it makes if you don't have a movie file disappears after the movie is rendered. And I have been putting the movies in the Pix drawer, next to but not in the Anim drawer. It's fun getting up to speed…
I got Transperency to work OK, but only when Shiny was completely OFF. Don
Karl, Those are them! (bad English, huh?) Those that I have used have been complete fonts, and I believe they included punctuation. Only problem I have hit so far is that on some of them the did not put a full space on the space bar, so you have to…
Karl, That's the one! Don
#Imagine Delete
Message #19641
Rick, A minor point in the manual: The DELETE function in the Project editor does not delete "cells" and renumber. It just deletes images. I would suspect that's how they will keep it, as to change the number of cells it would have to work interactively with the Action editor,…
Karl, I'll get you the name next week…it's at work. I got a mailing as a "registered Interfont owner," so I assumed they sold their mailing list. Don

Digiview flicker
Message #17040
Try adjusting the "tracking" slider in the "camera" settings. I have had a similar-sounding problem and that clears it up.
#16113-
DigiView 4.0
Message #16124
We have a GVP '030 and Digiview 4 and it works ok. Are you waiting for it to finish scanning? Until the line-by-line scanning gets to the bottom of the screen, it looks like garbage. Then it abruptly clears up.
IFF Sphere Wrapping
Message #15952
Months ago I had given up ever IFF wrapping a ball cleanly (that is, without a mirror image on the other side) in Silver. Thanks to the ILLUSTRATED instructions in your Spring newsletter, I finally did it! The X axis being so narrow seems to be the "secret." Thanks! Don
Rick, The RGBN files act the same as in Scene or Movie; when it prompts, you can either tell it to keep or delete them during the rendering process. I have had no problems whatsoever doing this. I have used this strictly for making compatible files with Dpaint III. Actually,…
In Turbo's SV version you have the option of creating an ANIM-compatible compression instead of the Silver version. I have used it with Dpaint_III. The Silver version of compression, however, gives you FAR more control of the animation; it's just not compatible with anything.
Rick, By the way, let me put my two cents in on the "crisp vs mushy" controversy that started this thread. Silver may tend to look softer in part because: 1) Silver defaults to smooth. Sculpt defaults to facets. 2) Silver defaults to anti-aliasing on. Sculpt defaults to it off.…
Rick, Yep…a zoom function, a different color for points that are only connected to one edge, and more accuracy on the initial drawing. In fact, the ideal combination might be Digiworks and Interfont Designer tools (I know…different companies; it'll never happen). But, till something better comes along, it's one heck…
Adding to the above reply, I should clarify that, if you extrude an object with a window, the window will extrude, too. However, you can then delete the points that form the window extrusion. The main thing is, it makes creating odd-shaped object or objects with holes in them very…
Kevin, I recently got a program called Digiworks 3D (by Access Technologies) that creates 3d shapes from IFF images, and imports directly to Silver or Sculpt. With it, you can create your walls with windows and doors, and then extrude them with Story, if you don't extrude them in the…
John, I have not tried any workarounds other than using the Silver 2 converter when going to silver 3. Since I use Silver at work for broadcast TV production, as much as I'd like to, I haven't gotten into the 3D glasses…not a lot of broadcast applications.
Please see my message #11229.
You're right…you can't see the other axises…but I tried resizing them and they still did not appear…although, come to think of it, I did not change to Local. However, since they are identified as full-size axises, they should be visible right from the start.
Is the problem that there is only an X axis? I have had the same problem when rotating an object. I have found that using the Silver 2 module to import and the 3 module to export gets around the problem.
I use Silver a lot for commercial work, and am impressed with and enjoy it, but I have NEVER been able to wrap an object without getting the reverse image on the back. I have tried suggestions both from here and the hotline, and have simply grown used to working…
David, After creating, joining, clustering, etc., the brush and object, add an axis to the center of the object where you want it to rotate, select it and then select the brush, then JOIN. The axis then becomes the parent; if you rotate the axis, everything will follow.
