#Emplant Mysteries
Message #174282
HELP! I finally got my Emplant running and need to xfer files between the mac partition and the amiga side. For that matter I understand there is some way to switch between both OS's like there is for the Goldengate or Bridgeboard. Anyhow I've got these PICT anims that are…
This is an encouraging development. I am going to check out your vendor lib stuff and talk to my dealer about using this to help with those ugly rendering jobs. Does the '60 permit parallel processing and do you have any plans to take advantage of it if so ?

Regarding TRW's access to low earth orbit telecomm satelites as an example of defense contractors not using their technology, I get the feeling that the problem is that the defense division simply is such a different culture that they view that as out of their turf. It's a corporate culture…
#CBM and SAMSUNG Status
Message #152937
What a literate, investigative group. You guys should help with the OJ thing too! The scenes I saw had a very modern style PC chassis, that's what struck me strange. Makes better sense now, thanks. Would be a shame if Samsung pulls a Lazarus on the Amiga and then N.Korea…
I saw a video clip on a news show the other day that I SWEAR had an assembly line with PC's sliding down rollers and being packed into boxes. The PC's had SAMSUNG stamped on them. Had a footprint like a cross between a Sun and a 4000. I even…

Sounds like a good plan, satellites are the wild card in all this highway stuff. My friends at TRW don't seem to grasp the import of what they built for the defense industry in this regard…

We use market research to get classic info on users, but we use the actual system itself (whatever it happens to be) to log activities on usage. Usually we can get ID numbers for the device (set-top box, PDA, CD-I player, whatever) and we use this to match the market…

The problem with Email is that the lack of semiotic bandwidth makes context hard to figure. We lose so much when voice, tone, gesture, posture, breathing, etc.. are unavailable. I once did a full psycholinguistic analysis for AT&T of transcripts of EMail and GAB line conversations…but that's a different story.…
Well, basically I've been buiding systems to track actual usage of interactive systems in test on the "information superhighway" for people like SONY and Bell Atlantic. The tracking will ramp up to replacing system like Nielsen. I know Scala is the preferred interface for Ameritiech info hiway efforts and thought…

John, I know you guys are into the desktop thing with Ameritech. I've been doing analysis of test market data for similar companies, including holographic neural net analysis of actual user's patterns of use through an interface (think about Nielsen, now think about dinosaurs). I wonder if we might have…
Thanks, I'll try them out. It actually gets weirder if you want to go "multimedia" on the PC. Then you need to configure for MIDI as well. So I've got to fool with the setup for the WInStorm/Winsound card which request 3 setup IRQ's for the board itself, for SOunblaster…
Super, I spent all weekend trying everything! Please forward ASAP I'm dying here…Anyhting would help.
Hey, I've got the Vortex 486 and am running a sound card that works ok in DOS but adds a high pitch over the sound in Windows. I've tried every IRQ and DMA combination that seemed plausibel (well , at least a whole bunch) and it won't go away. The…
What is this about NewTek not even monitoring their own forum. Makes you wonder if CBM and NewTek deserved each other…Businesses which do not monitor users comments are doomed.
I'm not so sure that's possible, with all the coproceessor dependence the Amiga was built upon…
You're right, an A5000 with 060's and a few improvements here and there would still be a killer box that would keep me preferrring Amiga's for quite awhile. I'll just keep "emplanting" away for office compatability as I have been to date…Hope it happens (hint to UU)…
Well put. A lot of ground has been lost the last 3 years. It would take alot to gain it back. I dunno if it can happen, Toaster notwithstanding.
Just a consumer, but I'll support the line if it shows capability for growth. I'll buy shares from moonlighting consulting jobs to back up the words. But it don't mean a thing if it ain't got "vision"… I gotta see a chance for the surviving technology to grow and evolve.
Haig is a real player, a principal at America Online…with ties back to QLink and the C64 days. He'd love to kickass in the category, especially with Apple…try a keyword search on these names in any good pub database and you'll see the pattern (I do it for a living)..Intersting…
You bring up an important point. The Amiga is not a machine, it is a vision of what machines should be like. As such it has usually been a few steps ahead. The franchise for the name "Amiga" is to an audience that has the discrimination to buy computers that…
1982 was a long time ago…Part of me agrees with your assessment and part of me wonders if the immense base of installed users for products like Lotus and the relative size and stability of 1994 markets vs 1982 might alter the picture somewhat…
An emplant for aPC that does AmigaDOS and Workbench and maybe sound…? I guarantee you I'd scarf one up for the stupid 486 I'm writing this note on just to work with a better OS than Windows and to remain attached to the visionary community that singlehandedly forced PC's and…
Go for it Jim, may the force be with you…The survival of the Amiga to date is already a minor miracle. Who knows what other miracles can be pulled off by the most passionate userbase for any PC…
There he is again, Al Haig. Some years ago I was working with a Fortune 10 Telecom co. looking around at 0nline info service vendors. I was impressed with what was then QLink. Very hard to get details. Offices near CIA suburbs. Listed Al Haig as principal. Never answered our…
If it's not a big deal, why hasn't NewTEk done it? When the Toaster first got hot, story was that Mac and Intel types floated over to Topeka with bags of money to do the conversion. NEwtek couldn't hack it cuz the OS and the chipsets for the Amiga were…
Jim, I do strategic planning in marketing with a focus on the "info highway" and a variety of blue chip accounts. If there is anything in my skill set that you could use (advertsing, market research, business case development, trends) please let me know. The Amiga is a Community as…
Hows OS/2 at multitasking? What about the native GUI speed (vs. rather pokey Windoze)? As for Amiga…probably will become like '57 Chevy. Priced by connoisseurs who swap parts to keep them going…
I have 3.0 and there is no narrator or speak! Seems to me there's some way to get it back but I haven't figures it all out yet…
I only caught the end, but it seems to me the visuals keep getting more ambitious. If only Lightwave had the Essence textures that Imagine does…
I'm heading up now, after I find out if I can resurrect speech on the 4000…
Doesn't some of the Toaster's magic require good multitasking and a blitter? Neither are common…
I'll probsbly watch a tape of SeaQuest or Robocop and say goodbye to the Toaster as a market as well…
Do you like OS/2? Should I drift there from AMigaland?
Yikes…sad, I fell like I've lost something beyond a good computer, a community of tasteful fellow geeks with nowhere to go but Windows I guess. Also, the end of the Toaster hurts just as much..not a good feeling…
HMMMM…I guess we'll have to check out tomorrows conference re: "liquidation" to see the latest..(sigh)
The only things that strikes me about all this is that if CBM was heading for Chapter 11 it ought to have happened by now (it's in their best interest to file fast vs. slow). Thus, I suspect something else. It is very difficult to gain a PC market, more…
Yeah, I've no verification on this. My dealer thinks its Phillips to watch cuz CD32 is killing CD-I in Eurpoe…
Well I actually booted it on 4 transputers off the pc side of a bridgeboard setup. It exists, weird as it seems!
I, too, have reservations about a SONY scenario, and I work with them. They are very keenly tuned to marketing to lifestyles, etc. All I can say is IF it is true that SONY had already obtained 15% share a few months back, then maybe there's some hope…
So sad to see talent and technology marred by incompetent management. I do strategic planning in marketing for a living, Commodore may be a case study. The Amiga is like some creature that even endless stupidity couldn't kill. The entire Amiga community waits next in line to be cast aside…
No, apparantly Tim King, that name rings a bell, I'll check the file at home to verify, but the name King is sounding very familiar on this.
BINGO…I met the guy King I believe!
Yeah, this guy was a Brit. Very proud of the EXEC, said it has never had to be touched. I might have his name in some materials at home, I'll check tomorrow…
Hey, this sounds faliliar. I kept having similar problems, except it got worse. Sometimes on large file transfers to the larger drive the system would hang in mid-transfer. Ugly. At first I thought it was a problem in the settings in the Hardrive program (specifically, whether one drive was using…
When I first got into the Amiga I was doing alot of Neural Net stuff, so I learned quick that multiprocessors might be critical. I began working with Inmos transputers and parallel processing slaved to the Amiga (or PC). In that environment there is a Unic clone for parallel processors…
Hey, this is too much. I'm just becoming a "beliver" on the Mac emulation, but a PC emulation too! WoW. Count me in (tired of BridgeBoard and GoldenGate, except access to AT slots)…

I sense a problem here. My Emplant is about a year old, but my dealer did a recent upgrade and I think he just dumped the latest files to my harddrive without using Installer, because I have only a small drawer called documentation with one or two one page notes…
I'll check out those online docs IF I can get the screen to stay in place long enough to do so. Every time I get to that last screen where those prompts occur the emulator fires up and I am into MacLand. So I haven't even had time to try…
