Ian, I just did something that I think is similar to the effect that you're trying to get. I had to make a car form out of the street – where the street starts to bulge as it looks like something is pushing itself up. the amorphous from then slowly…
Jim, thanks, I'll check it out this evening -Kyle
Jonas, I thought of this because I'm doing this little animated gremlin character. I modeled him with metaballs, and it seems however I place the mapping coordinates. I get streaking of some kind. I've used .sxp's for bump maps and he looks good, but as soon as I animate him…
Hi Ian, can you be more specific as to how it should move, or what parts of the scene have to change when it moves? etc… -Kyle

I would like to be able to specify different sest of mapping coordinates for individual texture/bump/illum/etc. maps within a material -Kyle
Hi Jim, what's the # for that? -Kyle
thanks
Michael, thanks!~ -Kyle
Hi Michael, thanks for the good info! how much does it cost, and who do I call to get it? thanks -Kyle

G I was wondering if you could clear something up for me. Is it just the render or the entire program that is going over to the SGI platform? thanks -Kyle

When you get the dialog that says "Image not found in map path" I would like an option that says "Image not found in map path, would you like to add it now? yes/no" thanks -Kyle

Shadow casting omni lights
along the same lines, for fade-in and fade-out sections, I'd like to define them on the same line segment, maybe use different colors for fadein and fadeout transitions. I just don't like to cut up my .ifl files so I can fade in for just part of the sequence. thnks…
#Video Post Wish

color coded Video Post entries – where each type of entry (image,KF scene, ipas process, etc) can have a user-defined color assigned to the frame envelope bar -Kyle
Michael, ahhh . . . 4 – 8K resolution . . I see. Well, good luck. 🙂 You might even use deform to get the skin box in the general shape, then move sets of verts. to get the added detail you need. -Kyle
#Mat Editor wish
Message #147923
In the Materials editor, I would like to declare my color values for ambient, diffuse, and specular light as RGB values it would make it easier to match colors metween ipas routines and standard shaders. -Kyle

I would like a small minus (-) button that works the same way the plus (+) one works in the load / save file dialog boxes. -Kyle
Hi Michael, I'm jumping in on this thread a little late but here's a suggestion anyway. use Deform to animate your box. It will keep the corners of the box from curving. look at the "jumping brick" animation I uploaded to the ipas library a while ago. I could send…

The ability to deal with assigned shapes with the same tools that you can deal with selected shapes. assigning shapes by selected set, quad, circle, fence, etc. thanks -Kyle
Hi Laurisa, Without going into a detailed explination, here's a quick fix: Copy the Key from frame 0 or 30 to frame 29. This will fix the problem. -Kyle
Hi Jeff, It souds to me that your default rendering resolution is set to 640 x 480. If you render to with display on at 512 x 486, then, in order to fit the image in the screen, 3ds will render 512 x 480. Either set your default rendering screen…
Hi Robert, It seems to me that Mirage is filtering an image that has been fielded (2 sets of fields), so then the fields don't work correctly when I record them to my VTR. everything looks really jaggy around the edges, almost blocky. thanks for your input -Kyle
Bill oops! I sent a reply to you that was supposed to go to Robert A. Weil. silly me 🙂 but it is the reply I wanted to send to you. -Kyle

#Mirage with fields
Message #143116
Has anyone out there been able to render a scene with fields that uses MIRAGE without it looking like doggy doo? The only other way I can think of to do it would be to render everything without fields, then process the frames again to field them. thanks -Kyle
thanks ! you too
Michael, There is a file called NOALPH.ZIP here in the asoft forum. it contains an .ixp process that clears the alpha channel. put it right after your background image in the video post queue, but before the KF scene. and you will see that glow works how you want it…
Hi michael, > if you put a image over anything else in the Video Post, you'll only see the image put your image behind your KF scene and it should work OK. also, if you just want a gloy around the outside of the earth, set your filter to be…
another option regarding the same wish: it could work on the same principles of the camera dolly — you would select one object, then another and based on the resultant 3d vector , you could dolly one object along that vector. maybe you could call it an 'object dolly' -Kyle
yeah, and be able to turn the option off for those who only operate on 3 axi anyway 🙂 is it axi or axis's, or axes? . . . i dunno 🙂 -Kyle

I would like to have a new movement cursor. It would work like hitting TAB when you are moving an object, although a dialog would come up and you could specify an angle or 'new axis' that you wanted to move the object along. So you could move an object…

Reza, They have many thousands of photos. You will have to call them to request specifically what you want. However, it's likely that you will have to play with the images a little to make it seamless. -Kyle

#File Saving Wish
Message #141111
Yost Group or Jonas, I would like an option of setting an automatic file saving, where every so many minutes your .prj file would be saved. for added fun, another option could be implemented where each time 3DS saves the file, it will give a greater # (i.e. myproj00.prj, myproj01.prj,…
Hi Greg, the best place to go for good texmaps of the planets is NASA or JPL labs. (since they're the ones who took all the pics in the first place) I used some JPL maps of Jupiter and Io in an animation I did, and it came out great.…

Hi James, here's what you'll need to do. 1) either create a new cube or delete your emmitter points from your existing cube. 2) go into the 2d shaper and create 2 concentric circles, then assign those two shapes and go into the 3d editor 3) CREATE/OBJECT/GET SHAPE to bring…
