#Prob with IM anim
Message #81426
I'm trying to create an animation using your multi-frame function, using some Toaster4000-generated RGB frames. When I try to play back the anim, using ViewTek, the palette seems to go funny. The first frame is fine, but subsequent frames seem to have little glitches of bright green running through them…
JPEG/TIF alphabet soup
Message #75933
I'm working on a database application using Superbase for Windows (I'm in the home stretch, have just forked out for the developer's edition and they tell me they're no longer updating the program .. thought this only happened in Amigaland). But I digress … this database has scanned images in…
Well, if a person who knows enough about the electronics to design the Sync Strainer is puzzled, I figure I'm in good company . Thanks for the tip about booting twice. Not fancy, but if it works …. Barbara
#Using 1942 with T4000
Message #72699
I'm using my new Toaster4000 with a CBM 1942 monitor. I've got the sync-strainer whatsit attached and all seems fine. What I can't figure out is a simple way of switching the screen modes back and forth between NTSC for using the toaster and DbleNTSCNoFlicker when I'm doing other stuff.…
Don't know if this helps, but what I do with my QMS 600 dpi postscript printer is set the resolution through a DOS machine using the included software. When I print through the Amiga, using the Postscript option, everything works fine.
I'm a maid still waiting in the Toaster department. As has become the norm in this whole experience, all parties involved are pointing fingers at each other. Customs is the culprit now, apparently. (Honestly, after all the fuss about the relative merits of free trade — any time I try…
Good heavens, you know this area well. I live in Mississauga, just next door to Toronto. (Less hectic to live in and we've pinched all the big companies, so the city is growing and actually has a balanced budget – thanks to a feisty, female mayor.) I know many people…
Hilary, Haven't touched TRexx yet, because I'm STILL WAITING FOR MY TOASTER UPGRADE! It's been seven weeks now of incompetence, finger-pointing, and incredible frustration on my part. Because I'm in Canada, NewTek says I have to go through the distributor, the distributor says I have to go through the dealer…
That's interesting, Vance. Thanks for the information. Barbara

#Video Toaster advice
Message #37256
Vance, PMFJI, but who used the Toaster to cover the federal election? Curious, in Toronto, Barbara
Bill, yes, it sounds like it would be best to use post files and include something for people to view them with. I guess I'll have a look at Ghostscript and start the learning process. Thanks for your help, Barbara
Is a version of Post available for the IBM world, do you know? That might solve my problem of wanting to distribute a postscript file to a series of DOS users to print out. Barbara
Good luck in figuring it out. I'll let you know if I come up with anything. Barbara
I'll let you know if I come up with any solutions during my setup of the new Toaster. I'm very much looking forward to getting it — one of the main reasons for upgrading was the improved CG. I got an Amiga 4000 this summer as I was able to…
Michael, That sounds like a great idea for those who just want to view the document on screen. If they tried to print it out, though, wouldn't it come out as a bitmap with lots of jaggies? Perhaps I could really carried away and include a printable file and a…
Bill, you presume correctly, not all endusers of this file have postscript printers. It sounds like I would have to go through a similar process to create a printable file using Ghostscript as I would in using the CMD command and print to dot matrix within Professional Page. It all…
I did actually talk to ASDG tech support about this some time ago. They suggested I change the priority of the commodities that start RexxMast and PopTR. I believe it is all covered by using CX_PRIORITY in conjuction with the PopTR command (check out pages 148-150 in the manual, it…
Hi, I just got myself a Studio 16 and was wrestling with the same dilemma, put it in the 4000 or the 2000. My dealer suggested, if at all possible, to put it in the 4000 with the faster processor and more RAM. The specs say it will work on…
Bill — PMFJI, but I wonder whether Ghostscript would solve a problem for me. I didn't see the beginning of this thread, but I assume that this utility would allow you to print a postscript file on a non-postscript printer. What I have to do is create a file from…
PMJI, but is HyperCache Professional a commercial program or sharewhere? Where would I get it and about how much? Thanks, Barbara Also gronking with Gigamem
I have no suggestions as to how to correct it …. but I have the same problem too. TRexx is looking for RexxMast, which according to my calculations should be running, since it is in my WB startup directory. Apparently you can adjust the priority of those programs, which I…
Determining HD speed?
Message #124346
Is there any such animal as a utility that tells me how fast my hard drives are? I've had a boo at the HDTools and nothing seems to be forthcoming. I've accumulated various drives over the years and would like to know how fast they are as I'm planning on…
The output was text and I used the CMD command. Worked wonderfully. Life is so simple when you know what you're doing …. Thanks for the tip. Barbara
I was advised to use the CMD AmigaDOS command which redirects output from the specified device to a file. Worked great! Cheers, Barbara
Andrew Thanks for your detailed reply. I think I will ask Dom about Protext or else just make do with what I have. I was considering FinalWriter since I could get an upgrade for about $50. But given that it doesn't do some of the things I consider necessary, I…
Andrew PMFJI, but I'm debating whether to pony up the $$ to upgrade to FinalWriter. I own both ProWrite and FinalCopyII. I bought FC first and was disappointed in it. Not because it didn't do fancy formatting and stuff (I tend to use PPage for that on the Amiga or…
Yowza! I'm keen. I've been talking to folks at Commodore Canada about peer-to-peer networking for a while and the promised software seemed to have gone into limbo. So I'm delighted to see something has surfaced. I don't have any hardware, though. What would you recommend?
#Redirecting output
Message #38020
I'm sure this is a basic AmigaDOS question, but I don't know the answer. How do I redirect output to a file through preferences? I'm running the video editing software MediaEditor, which has a print icon. When you want to print the edit list, you just press the icon and…
I don't have the latest version so I believe that's why my search for the docs was fruitless. Thanks for the help. Barbara
Ah, I think I'm still at v1.02. I should upgrade perhaps? On that I'm confused. You have sent me an upgrade already, gratis. I believe there's something in the stuff that originally came with the software that allows me a free upgrade. Have I already used that? Thanks, Barbara.

Can you direct me to the right spot in the on-line docs of IM R/t: I want to bone up on using the Epson driver. I'm thinking about getting a scanner and I gather this driver is included. I checked in the Help index under E for Epson; S for…
Andrew, yes, I realize now what I saw was mention of the show hotel, the Radisson, and that faked me out, thought they had moved the show itself. So will be trooping up to the usual spot, either Friday or Saturday. BTW, who's Karen Jewell? Have they got an outside…
Nate – Yes, minors can go to the track here, but they have to be 18+ to wager. I don't know if this is still the case, but a few years ago when we were at the track, I looked for a pay phone to check in with our babysitter…
You want to do the town? There's lots to do and see, depends on what your interests are. Historical stuff: Black Creek Pioneer Village, Old Fort York, Casa Loma. If you like paroramic views, there's the CN Tower (tallest freestanding structure in the world) with revolving restaurant and observation deck.…
I'll be there either on Friday or Saturday (but hopefully leaving the kids at home). Are you local, or coming in the for big event? Cheers, Barbara
Nate, Thanks for your detailed message. I'm hoping to interest my client into some interactive stuff for their lobbies and it's useful to hear about what else is out there in the hotel world. The process should take some time, though, as there is a great deal of client education…
PMJI, but I have a hotel chain as a client for some print stuff and I'm starting to expose them to the possibilities of multimedia and video. Could you tell me what kind of stuff they had on the promos and where they used them?
So if I'm creating frams from Lightwave that I will compile into an anim using another program, it _does_ make sense to save them as RGB? Thanks for your help. Barbara
Thanks for the info, Jim Barbara
Thanks, I'll do some experimenting. Barbara
#Thanks for the service
Message #64133
I wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your company's service and technical support. I needed to compile some animations for this week and had tried to get a copy of ImageF/X. But it was going to take days for the local dealers to get it in.…
#Framestores vs RGB
Message #64132
Can anyone educate me about the relative merits of framestores versus RGB files… In working in ToasterPaint, I make ongoing saves as RGB files because they contain more information. And when saving frames to disk from a Lightwave animation, I've saved them as images, because the files are usually much…
Isn't that (each having an animation on a single tape) what you've just done, more or less? Barbara
I'd always assumed that the folks who make the "gang tapes" were an autonomous collective ….
Thanks for the info, I know the RAM will cost lots 'o bucks … hopefully though it will speed things up enough to justify the cost. Always something to spend the pennies on …. I'll get in touch with Jerry Hatchett about the tape, thanks. Just as soon as I…
This innocent discussion re my childrens' health is getting out of hand! Thanks for the info on GigaMem. I saw a review on it too and it seems interesting. Will probably follow it up sometime.
Thanks for the information. Do you have any prices?
Oh, we do feed them. That's why I can't afford any more RAM! Thanks for the info on the RAM expansion. I shall file it away for future reference, and occasionally ponder the prospect of 256MB (wow!) RAM with reverential awe.
My husband says to tell you we're not selling any of the children until they're a bit plumper. So, that puts off the RAM purchase for a while. 🙂 About RAM, when I was exuberantly putting in the order for the 4000 a couple of months ago, I enquired about…
I've been lurking around here for a while, and watched with interest the progress of the Gang Tape. I even enquired about ordering it. But, in typical fashion, I've never got around to getting a U.S. funds postal order and sending it off (I'm in Canada). I must ask the…
