Hilary, There is a DISCONNECT option in ExpertPrep that can be turned off for the RDB of the hard drive. As always, backup your drive before making ANY changes to the RDB, as data could be lost during a re-write. For the tape drive, you need to add a line…
Bil, Pages 2.3 – 2.5 of the manual describe the use of GVPSCSICTRL for proper operation of tape drives. The driver name is gvpscsi.device. Does ExpertPrep see the tape drive? If not, the use GVPSCSICTRL to rescan the bus. Does the tape drive lock the SCSI bus? Use GVPSCSICTRL to…
I'm not sure what is going on. This TV adapter should be sending an electronic sync as stable as a camcorder. Make sure that your VMODE in DOS is set to 640×480. Otherwise, the black screen on your final output may be the DOS screen, but the prompt is above…
I've never tried using FCII with the IOX, so I can't give you many immediate suggestions. Does GVPIOCTRL work with other programs? You message does not say. Final Copy does some pre-processing before sending information to the port, so it could be doing something wrong. SETDEVICE needs to be running…
Hank, The 1.98m version is available on our BBS for download (610-337-5815). GVP TECH
Yes, you can have both SCSI controllers in the same machine. IN order to address the A4008+ board, change the BOARD number to 1 in ExpertPrep.
Viona Development, makers of the EGS libraries, is supposed to be working on one, but GVP has not heard any word on it. I sent them a message about this fax on Monday and expect a reply by the end of the week. I don't expect there to be a…
Adding that flag is all that is necessary for SYNC to be active. As for SCSI utilities, there are several PD programs that can toggle your caches and burst mode options. Of course, Commodore provides CPU for this function.
GE, >>1. Can we use the existing board we have ? Yes. >>2. Can we replace the MC68ECO30 with another XX68030 processor ? Yes. >>3. Is there another newer chip that can be installed in order to give me >> an MMU and speed up the whole thing ? The…
It sounds to me like you're running into a low-level format problem. Maxtors have a lengthy low level formating process. The drive activity is constant during this process and may appear to be a lockup. If interrupted during this time, Fastprep will not allow you to do anything else to…
Dan, Your last message was confusing. When you select an EGS resolution from Workbench SCREENMODE program, Workbench should appear on the EGS screen. If it continues to appear on the Amiga monitor, then you did not select an EGS screenmode. If this test were to fail, you should have no…
Ed, You shouldn't have to alter any of the jumpers, but double-check against the manual. The directions for the A4000 apply, although the jumper numbers and positions may be different. As for your chipset, your RAMSEY (rev 7 ) and DMAC (rev 4) should be up the latest revision for…
Sounds like a loose wire somewhere or something is grounding improperly. Double-check your installation. There's nothing on our board that would cause this to happen. Also, when the light comes on, check the actual hard drives and see if the SCSI BUS is going on or if one of the…
The blue screen indicates that the board is now active and ready for use, so lowering your AUTOCONFIG RAM worked! Try double-clicking on the EGS-SCREENMODERESET icon and then starting the EGS-DISPLAYADJUST program. Also, try running preferences SCREENMODE program and see if the LEGS resolutions are available. You should see some…
Bruce, It is very important when updating to version 2.4 that nothing of the original software still exist. In most cases, users will place the LINEMAN program in their WBSTARTUP drawer for automatic activation. This will cause a problem when updating to version 2.4, since it will be looking in…
Mr. O'Brien, The board uses 4MB GVP SIMM32 chips. They are available through your supplying dealer or any of the mail-order dealers, such as Creative Computers or Select Solutions. GVP TECH
If the crash was occurring at a specific point, I would think about a settings problem but it really sounds like an I/O problem. Make sure that both the tape drive AND the hard drives have disconnect turned off. If the hard drive has it turned on, then it will…
I believe so, but Technical Support will not be there (they never send us to the good places). In the very least, our distributor will be representing us at their booth.
David, Start the system and run SHOWCONFIG. See if the controller is being seen by the system. If it is, then the problem is with either the drive itself or the power going to the drive. If the controller is NOT there, then it's either the power to the HD8+…
It's actually our OLD building that we moved back into. With the unfortunate trun of events with Commodore, we have had to scale down operations. Technical Support was, however, moved into a larger section, so we're happy. Thanks for asking. In the future, please start a new posting for messages.…
I/O would be my first check. Especially since the board started working again in machine #1 for a time. I'd swap and/or replace my 8520 chips. After that I'd look at power. Remove ALL of the other boards in the system and see if the failures continue. It would also…
Dirk, The GVP BBS is 610-337-5815. GVP TECH
The error is probably "Half a LEGS installed". What this means is that the memory portion of the board is not autoconfiguring. In an A2000, the memory portion of the Spectrum system uses 2MB of AUTOCONFIG memory space (similar to a Bridgeboard). On the G-Force accelerators, you can remove the…
Bruce, PhonePak will typically ASK you for your password. If you were not asked, then it will try to interpret your password as a ROUTE request, generating the error message. It sounds like you lost something during the upgrade. Try entering your password from the LOCAL phone. I have a…
80ns if fine. Memory is industry standard 16-bit SIMMS (I think its 32 pins. I always forget that myself). The 8 chip versions, 9 chip versions, 2 chip versions and 3 chip versions will all work, although I recommend that you stick to one type.
First, make sure you are NOT using the GVPCPUCTRL program to remap Kickstart in the first place. Secondly, you will need to add some Autoconfig memory for remapping. ALL of the REKICK programs that I'm aware of remap to the Autoconfig range. Since the GVP 68040 board maps ALL memory…
All SCSI units must be ON when connected to the bus. SYQUEST drives ADD power to the termining stream, which explains why the bus is not working when the unit is off.
GVP does not really fix these supplies, since it would cost more than the cost of the power supply to have it brought in for repair. There are several alternatives: 1. NEW SUPPLY – We may have some replacement power supplies for sale. Contact Customer Service at 610-354-9495 and check.…
What's the question? I have been using a Supra 14.4K modem on the I/O Extender for awhile now without a problem.
Martin, GVP controllers do not check for parity, so it shouldn't matter. I would start with parity turned off. GVP TECH
SCSI termination is not an exact science. Experimentation will be the final solution. My recommendation is to start by terminating the last drive on the chain. If that doesn't work, then try different configurations until you find the one that allows the system to boot and work reliably.
James, >> I resently fried my AutoBoot Roms on my GVP SCSI Controller. I just >>updated the roms to work with my A4000 resently, After that I moved it to >>my A2000 which runs a BBS program. And After getting transfer ERRORS, I >>attempted to go back to my older…
Have you tried another accelerator in the same machine? Was anything changed in the system just befoer the problems started (i.e. new drive added, new board, system moved, etc.)? If the system slowly degraded to the point where it will not boot with the accelerator in place, it sounds like…
Mr. Belant, There is a jumper on the Maxtor drive to control how it spins up. Change this jumper and that will fix the cold-boot problem. If that drive is the 7213 model, the jumper is J302. GVP TECH
Mr. Fairless, Expert Services is the only source that we are aware of. I asked my superiors in my company to order some, and it's just a matter of waiting for the wheels of bureaucracy to get spinning… GVP TECH
Martin, >In general should SCSI drives have parity enabled when connected to GVP SCSI boards ? It does not matter how it is set. GVP TECH
"I am still having problems with my Tandberg TDC 3600 and Maxtor 7040s and the A1291, Have now tried both another enclosure and A500 power supply which hasn't changed anything 🙁 What alse can we try or do I give up now (four months and a shorter temper later…)" Unfortunately,…
> Are there ROM updates for 3.1? They are supposedly available, but GVP has not yet received any such kits to test in any Amiga. Until we do, we can only say that we expect all of our hardware products to be compatible. GVP TECH
richard, Do you have the 6.2 software (available on CIS for download)? It contains E.S.P., our screen promotion program. Without this, no intuition screen will be able to come up on an EGS screen. As for Workbench, please elaborate. When in Preferences SCREENMODE program, you should have EGS resolutions available.…
The wierd reactions from your modem sound like a software setting in your BBS software. I would contact the author of the BBS software, as I have found that most of these issues have been resolved. It is probably one of your settings, which is not taking the hardware buffering…
Mr. Belant, There should be no problems whatsoever when upgrading to Kickstart 3.1. GVP has not yet received a ROM and disk set for test, however, so we have no tips to offer anyone who is upgrading, at least at this time. GVP TECH
Amiga UNIX on GVP 040?
Message #88069
Amiga UNIX was never reworked by Commodore to work with the 68040 CPU. There is no fix, patch, or work-around to make it so. Sorry.
Richard, The "NO LEGS INSTALLED" means that the hardware is not found. This could be because the board is not properly installed or another board is preventing the Spectrum board from autoconfiguring. In an A2000, you need to leave 2MB of autoconfig memory space open for the Spectrums video memory…
Tom, Your errors could have started from several sources: 1. Since you just started going online, your system may have a virus. 2. One of your CIA (8520) chips may be faulty and the increased activity introduced by the modem may be triggering this problem. 3. Depending on the age…
Tong, I have forwarded your request to our Sales Department. Thank you for your interest. GVP TECH
Dave, Regarding your questions: >>Is this reliable equipment? Yes. I am currently running a 1200 with the A1230 and 20MB of ram (1-16MB and 1-4MB). >>Will there be any compatibility problems? Your programs need to be 68030 compatible (most programs are). >>How will the accelerator react to 4MB PCMCIA ram?…
"Can anyone advise me as to why a Toshiba TXM3401 CDROM drive attached to a GVP Series II SCSI controller prevents my A2000 from booting? The CDROM has a terminating plug, the unit is set to device #4, and the ca ble seems okay. My hard drive LED lights up…
Cliff, Obviously the resistor modification had some affect on the system performance. Try leaving the bottom cover plate off on the A1200. I have seen some instances where the CPU chip is grounding on the keyboard. This was the main reason for the replacement cover. Also, see if you can…
Doug, The manual is incorrect. Your configuration is just fine. Plug in the board and play. GVP TECH
Skip, SCSI SCANNER support is being worked on, although I don't think that this specific model has been addressed. I will forward your suggestion. Nova Design is now handling the ImageFX package directly. GVP TECH
