#Open Letter to CEI
Message #174440
In his post "Open Letter to CEI", Mark Manes urged the likely future owners of the Amiga technology to build a laptop Amiga and finish AAA. That's good, but not nearly enough. Whoever is the new owner of the Amiga should read everything they can get their hands on by…
re:Using CMD_file for printing. Yes, that way you can do the actual printing after closing ProWrite. You can even try all your friends' printers by using the driver for their printers & taking the CMD_file to their machines to print. (Can you tell I enjoy this? I even wrote an…
What I got with both the 2088 and the 2286 was 3 5.25" IBM-format 360K floppies, with MS-DOS 3.3 and the Janus software for the BB, and an Amiga-formatted 880K 3.25" diskette with the Amiga side software. See if you can find someone with one of these BBs near you…
Did I mention that when printing from ProWrite I almost always capture the print8ing using CMD? It still takes a LONG time for the printing (to CMD_file) to be done, especially in Landscape mode, but the actual printing (copy CMD_file to PAR:) goes _MUCH_ faster!
Sounds like old Janus software. I don't know what Janus 2.x is like, but the version that came with my 2088 & my 2286 both have an AMouse program on the Amiga side. (Circa 1989, I think.)
#Amiga mouse as DOS mouse
Message #165232
I hope I haven't missed the beginning of this thread so that I don't know what I'm talking about, BUT… I have been able to use my Amiga mouse with both my old 2088 bridgeboard and the 2286 BB. I start, in order, PCDisk, Amouse and PC Color from the…
#Help?
Message #165231
Garry, what version of ProWrite do you use? In version 3.0 and up (I use V 3.3), you have to set the printer density within PW, as it takes precedence over the Preferences settings. (It's in the Page Setup menuitem, just above the Print menuitem.) I get some really, really…
>>try the HPPeripherals forum… They sent me over here! *B^) (Although one person said I should ask the forum sysop — maybe I have to find out who it is & send a msg direct!?) Ah well, who knows?
#Old LaserJet questions
Message #157419
[Posted both in HPPER/LaserJet and AmigaUser/DTP] A fellow member of my Amiga user group recently bought a used HP LaserJet (not II, III, +, or anything, just LaserJet) from someone who had bought it at an auction. It came without manuals or anything. It appears to have a serial interface…
Thank you DJG, bruno and Marion, for your suggestions. I'll try them. (Now where do I find a copy of Enforcer? I'll try my local Amiga user group BBS, I guess.) To quote a TV commercial I normally hate: I _LOVE_ this place!
#2286/A3000 indigestion
Message #152840
I'm having some trouble getting a 2286 Bridgeboard to work with our A3000 (25MHz, 2Megs chip, 4Megs fast) running 2.05. With the proper disk drive (1.2Meg 5.25"), at least it finally boots, but it won't recognize the virtual C: drive I had set up for my old 2088 BB, which…
Ah, I see! So, when I'm printing at my driver's 300 x 300 dpi, this RET is in there, making my print look better automatically! This I can live with! Thanks again. *B^) Pat L.
Thanks for the information. By the way, what is the RET? I must admit I'm a little disappointed, but anyway I _am_ pleased with how great my output looks now!
HP DJ printer driver
Message #150705
I just LOVE our new HP DeskJet 520, which works beautifully on our Amiga 3000 using the Workbench printer driver "HP_DeskJet." However, it only goes up to 300 x 300 dpi, and the printer documentation says it is capable of 600 x 300 dpi. Is there a newer driver which…
You should probably check the printer's DIP switches. It may be set for IBM ProPrinter emulation or some other incompatible setting. Since it works with the emulator, the cable is probably OK, printer OK, Amiga OK, etc. So that seems the most likely problem. I don't believe the Amiga comes…
[Oops! I posted this yesterday, but sent it to area #2 by mistake!] The following was posted on ASK BBS (503 944 8291) in Louisville, Kentucky by an employee of Mr. Horan's Computer Lab, the local Amiga dealer: —begin quoted post— 194/200: NEw FACTS Name: Danny Daring #42 Date: Mon…
More facts: Danny Daring, an employee of Mr. Horan's Computer Lab, Louisville, Kentucky (our local Amiga dealer), posted the following on A.S.K. (Amiga Society of Kentuckiana) BBS (Amiga user group BBS). He says it is the text of a fax they received from CEI. He is not a good typist…
Hey Eric! I assume you are trying to set up the "Pseudo PC Hard Drive" mentioned in pp. 87-89 of the BB manual. What steps did you go through on the Amiga side to set it up? Did you use MakeAB and put the path/filename in sys:PC/System/ABoot.CTRL? Tell us more…
2088/A3000 Questions
Message #94978
Hey, all you 2088 experts! I have a couple of questions for you: 1. Is it possible to replace the 5.25" drive with a 3.5" 720K drive? (I plan always to boot off the C: drive, so the "drivparm=" line in config.sys is no problem). 1a. Would this require a…
2088BB/A3000 Questions
Message #94170
Hi all! Boy! was I glad to find this area! We have a new A3000 with 4megs fast, 2megs chip and Amiga OS 2.05. I was having some compatibility problems between the Pascal compiler I got for the Amiga (PCQ Pascal) and the Borland Turbo Pascal used in the labs…
James — thanks for the feedback. We still have our old 500, too. As to the bridgeboard floppy question — I managed to get the virtual C: drive set up and now boot from that, so I disconnected the 5.25" drive so I could put the 3000's case back together.…
Gayle, thanks again. I read of your problem getting your system to recognize the high density floppy drive — you might try this, which I read about in the Bug Bytes column in Amazing: insert the HD floppy & wait until its icon appears; remove the floppy; insert it again.…
Paolo, yes many of the NEC multi-synch monitors should work with your 4000 just make sure it can handle horizontal scan rates as low as 15KHz to be ae to use all the graphic modes.
Well, Danny, welcome to Amiga-Land! I think probably the one thing that will make you fall in love with your Amiga is the easy multi-tasking — every time I get on a PC-clone or even a Mac, I get _very_ frustrated not being able to hit Left-Amiga-N or Left-Amiga-M to…
Well, I got the 8088 bridgeboard to work in the 3000! [Why bother, you might ask; well, that's another story! *B^) ] Since the PCInstall program that comes with Janus 2.0 writes a 1.3 bootblock to sys: and the 3000 is running 2.05, I simply copied the necessary files to…
It could be what your Amiga is doing (yes, it may be the Amiga rather than the accelerator) is doing an InitPrinter. That is, sending printer set-up codes to set it to all the settings in Preferences. There's an icon in 1.2/1.3 by that name, and although I never used…
Thanks, Gayle Lee and Steven — you answered most of my most pressing questions excellently! You know, I _wondered_ about that 'H' in the DRIVPARM line in the CONFIG.SYS. Thanks for clearing that up. BTW, the reason I want to run without the 5.25" drive is there's no room for…
About your problem copying files from one SCSI drive to the other: Make sure that: all partition names are unique ONLY ONE partition is a boot partition you have plenty of buffers assigned Also, check out both drives with HDToolbox — this may give a clue. From things I have…
#A3000/2088 BB Questions
Message #33700
Hi, folks! The Question Man here with some Bridgeboard questions. I have an Amiga 3000 running OS 2.05 with 6 Megs ram (2 chip, 4 fast), but I need to have a PC-compatible to run Turbo Pascal for a class, so I have just bought a used 2088 Bridgeboard (the…

The special issue of Time magazine, "Beyond the Year 2000" has only one advertiser: IBM. Every ad in the mag is from IBM, but on page 2 is a picture of Arthur C. Clarke (who has a short story in the issue–only the second time Time has published fiction in…

I have been watching CBM stock prices on the NYSE, and they have been going down, but so have Apple's, and everybody's. The stock market has been going down for some weeks. CBM tends to go up when the Dow Jones Averages go up, and down when the Dow goes…
re:problem finding MOST file reader: I have tried TYPE, but the file is compacted somehow. I will try MUCHMORE and the various de-arcing programs such as LHARC, ARC, ZOO, etc., but don't expect success. I will also try PPMORE, in case it was packed with PowerPacker. Thanks for the help
ZeroVirusIII docs
Message #7112
I have a slight problem with a PD or Shareware program called ZeroVirusIII. Namely, the doc file must be read with a program called Most V1.0+, but I can't find this utility anywhere. Has anyone ever heard of this?
