Ron, I just (finally!) got my A2500/30 with XT bridge board (yay!) I am getting ready to install the Sota 386si board, which if memory serves, is the configuration you have. Any tips beyond the documentation on anything that might rise up and bite my butt? (about the 386 si……

Guess what, Paul. They did. 1008×800 is a pretty good resolution, neh? There's also a 1280×400 (I think). The 640x480x4 resolution is the VGA-type resolution, but make no mistake and do NOT buy a VGA-only monitor, be sure to buy a multisync type of monitor. The VGA will either not…

From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 27, 1990 7:01 AM
OK, that's not so bad. After all that would require additional technology that would have slowed the release of the 3000, which Commodore could NOT have afforded at this point. You have to have more intelligent arbitration of Hard disk requests than the OS now supplies. What would be neat…

Nope, you're alone on this one Ethan (grin). Actually, I don't THINK there's any real speed penalty to it. Anyone have both machine so we can run a benchmark? Ben Lott works for Leigh's, so he should have them available. Whaddya say, Ben? –Gabe

#99962 AmigaVision Bundle? Message #100294
From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 27, 1990 7:01 AM
There is some talk (speculative at the moment) that it would be bundled with A500's which are purchased with 1 MB of RAM or more, which is what it needs to run. Makes no sense to give someone software that does not work. –Gabe

Well, the 2000 seems like the machine you will stick with then. That is, until CBU comes up with a one-slot killer '386 bridgeboard with VGA, Serial, and space for 2MB RAM (minimum). (Yeah, right, I'll believe that one after I convert from Judaism and start believeing in Santa Claus)…

From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 26, 1990 6:13 AM
Ron, It's a new Amiga, not a new bridgeboard. I am sorry to take this position, but it's clearly new Amiga technology that the 3000 represents, not new Bridge technology. Additional bridge expansion was CLEARLY not the intention of Commodore. –Gabe

How to Count Slots Message #99810
From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors April 25, 1990 6:40 AM
Ron it doesn't seem to be all THAT bad. The number of slots NEEDED is decreased by one because of the inclusion of the SCSI interface on the mother board, and then by another because you have space for 18 MB (total) on the mother board — 2 MB chip…

As I mentioned in my messages, I did have the opportunity to sit next to a BYTE reporter. He indicated that past "injustices" were probably due to BYTE keeping coverage in proportion to overall market share (I pointed out that this has a stifling effect on the marketplace). He also…

Ray, That's a very clever way to run things! So basically, you have an Amiga, a MAC II, and an IBM AT (you *do* have a bridge, if I recall?) in one neat little package, all running with a 68020. Now, that's a Ronin Hurricane board? And at what speed…
#93334 CertDeveloper Betas? Message #94016

Well, Betty, for those of us who consider CI$ to be the be-all and end-all (for whatever reasons, so no discussions on that topic, please) the inclusion of Compuserve would be a breath of fresh air. Until then, I guess we wait. –Gabe
From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Ramblings March 8, 1990 11:42 AM
I think the issue here is one of beta versus gamma or perhaps focus group testing. That Commodore has never really listened much to users is a given; that they ought to is a fact. Look at how far Apple was able to get when they did so. In any…

Naah, you can put in things like (Larry, are you listening..) "standard" but replaceable system requesters, menus, pointers, window and gadget designs and the like, and the code to support the concept, libraries, and a couple of default fonts, as well as higher and better resolution support. –Gabe
From: Gabe J. Feder AmigaTech Forum · Hot News and Rumors February 5, 1990 1:47 PM
Well, if they DO fill it up, then they can "lock" it, saying that certain items will be subject to future change, and add REALLY new functionality to a second chip or (perhaps) one that has 1 MB. This could be one of the steps taken for the 3000. One…

I'd have to agree with Larry that the restriction to machine code compatible processors is a bit TOO restrictive, and that the Amiga would (if we eliminate the CODE COMPATIBILITY restriction) be easily considered a multiprocessing system when you count in the BB. Nobody (I think) has taken advantage of…
