I'll try and be a bit more specific. I have selected xprquickb in the default protocol and receive protocol in the Transfer Protocol area of the phonebook entry I have for Compuserve. After I have logged in and gone to, for example, this forum, I then select a file for…
Peter, the B protocols work beautifully if you have things set up right and have software that supports them. I've used ZModem extensively on bulletin boards. It is no better than BPlus protocols. I wish I knew what is wrong in your setup, but I just haven't been able to…
Peter, Have you set your serial settings for 8-N-1? If you are set for the 7-E-1 recommended for CompuServe, your binary downloads will always fail, no matter what protocol you have. You need to set for 8-N-1, and then turn on an option to 'strip high bit.' I don't know…
I wish you could too. At least X & Y did get going. I have since found that there is a problem locally with water in the phone junctions so the techs are going in to try repairs somewhere. Buth the other prots didn't even get off the blocks. Can't…
I uploaded messages via C/s Mail. They went up as binary files. It seems that their presence is known but their whereabouts are not. That's why I appended a piece from Peter Hill in case it might illuminate the subject.
Yes I was advised. I set at 8-n-1
Fine if only these B prots would work.
I was wondering if the files on the Ncom disc are compatible with your system for B,B+ and quickB as these all fail
Greg, I don't know why CIS chose not to support ZModem, but B+ protocols support the resume feature, making it just as good. —Betty
Adrian, It's in libary 9, in the Amiga Vendor section. I'd also strongly suggest you download the docs (APDOCS.LHA) from the same library. Asha @}–,–`–
Betty, You probably know–why is there no Zmodem transfer protocol available here on CompuServe (perhaps because they have "Quick B"?) ..I miss ZModem's file transfer resume feature quite a bit.. Gregory Donner [Internet: 102673.1743@compuserve.com]
Peter, I started off with NComm. Forget the research, and persevere with xmodem till you get AP and LHA132.run to unarc it. I know the frustration that you are going through, I've been there. Xmodem is slow but will get you there in the end, even if it takes a…
Peter, I wish I could be of help, but I just cannot answer your question. I don't know why you are having these problems. Others have downloade AP.LHA using various protocols: B, B+, QuickB, YModem, XModem, Kermit – all have worked. I haven't a clue as to why it is…
You'd been more specific 🙂 . But then, a pretty common problem is that you should set your serial prefs in Term to 8-N-1 even if you heard that CIS uses 7-E-1. To prevent garbage from CIS set "Strip high bit" as well. HTH, Joachim Sondermann-Bieker on Amiga AutoPilot 1.80…
AutoPilot is in AmigaVendor Forum, Library 9, and is called AP.LHA. There are also some documentation files for it – APDOCS in several formats – WP for importing into Word Perfect; ASC for a simple ascii file; LHA for a file that unpacks to print out a fully formatted manual…
Volker, AutoPilot may be starting the downloads over again – but B+ protocols are quite capable of re-starting. If you want to re-start a download, have you tried it in HandsOn? And AutoPilot definitely uses BPlus protocols as default. —Betty

Peter, I do wish I could help – but I'm at a loss. I don't use Termite (Nor NCOMM), and know nothing of the way it works. I can tell you how to make things work with AutoPilot, which I use, but not with term programs that I don't know.…
Peter, Forgive me, but I don't quite understand the reason for this research you are doing, and I don't know of anything that could be missing. I can tell you now, though, that for CompuServe, the best protocol to use it BPlus. It is fast, accurate, and allows for re-starting…
Chris.. You could always try getting XPRQUICKB.LIBRARY or XPRBPLUS.LIBRARY, which works fine with Terminus, but i've never used TERM so i don't know if you can use external protocols.. You'll have to read the term doc's on how to set them up for use etc etc. Anthony
Since I don't know what specifically what you are doing I don't know why you can't get it to work. Suffice it to say, tho, that if you have the XPR B+ or QB library, and you've selected one of those libraries for use with Term, it works fine.
Asha, Thanks very much, Ive followed your instructions and my amiga is now dearchiving like a dream. Many thanks, John
I have tried both Term 4.4 & 4.5 and cannot get either to use the Compuserve B protocol. How exactly do I set it up? I can get Term to work with all other online services without any trouble. I have selected the protocol and there appears to be no…

To Betty Clay 76702,337 Subject:attepted download of ap.lha For almost three hours I have tried using every protocol I can acess. First log on with Ymodem. There were 4 CRC errors, whatever they are, then at block 400 the system just died as it did before. Next log on with B+.…
>If you can use B+ protocols, the download can restart at the place where you left off.< Hallo Betty, thats new to me. If I have a crash during a download, AP starts everytime from the beginning. I was wondering about this, because with several mailboxes it works as you…
I'm glad you said IF. When you have read my other messages you'll see what I mean.
Peter, Many things could have caused the problem with your download – faulty phone lines, a problem in your computer, or in CompuServe's computer – lots of different things. If you can use B+ protocols, the download can restart at the place where you left off. Othewise, it will have…

To Betty Clay 76702,337 Subject: ProtocolsResearch I have made a series of copies of my NComm program disc. Each one has been configured for a different protocol according to the libraries on the disc. It is my intention to go through the practice forum and test a short upload and…
So am I. I am setting up a test program to research the protocols on NComm. The full message on this will be adressed to Betty Clay but no doubt anyone can access it for information.
Jack, Ok, just GO TERMINAL and reset your preferences. Make sure you are setup to support both upper and lower case and the other settings are correct. Save it for all connect speeds and make the settings permanent. Then you don't need to append the *TTY (btw…it's got to be…
Term supports B protocol via the XPR libraries … set it up. -Steve Ahlstrom

Which library is AUTOPILOT in & what is the file name? The "finder" didn't come up with it in either AUser or ATech Libs Thanks adrian
Don – I just tried doing what you suggested. I didn't see any default setting. I already had it set to other and tried using some of the others but nothing made a difference. I then tried appending the *tty to my user_id but the system kept saying invalid id.…
Thanks Don. I'll give it a try. -Jack
Peter, I don't know what caused your system to quit during a download but I suspect you'll have to start over from scratch again with the d/load. Sorry you had problems. Asha @}–,–`–

I was downloading ap.lha using Ymodem. At block 143,bytes 146432, the data, dcd and oh lights on my modem went out and the whole system died. I have had to re-log-on to be able to do this message. The portion received will be saved to my dh1. Please advise what causes…
Jack, that's because your terminal emulation (and everyone's for that fact) is different at 9600 than at 2400 as far as CIS is concerned. GO TERMINAL at any CIS! prompt and set up your terminal type and tell the system to default to that for connects at any speed. Your…
Chris, You can use it in the Amiga Forums while you're saving up for it. It will save you quite a bit of money so you could just put aside the difference in your phone bills and within a month or two will be able to afford it. Just a…

Asha I would like to switch to AutoPilot, but cannot afford the registration fee. On the subject of Term, I have tried Y-modem but after asking me for a filename, nothing happens. I have tried initiating a transfer with the download binary files menu option, but with anything other than…

Whenever I connect at 9600 and try to type a message on-line, the cursor doesn't return to the beginning of line when I hit CR. It just drops down one line and to the right one character. Everything works fine at 2400. Both worked fine untill about a month ago.…

When I access CIS with Term 4.4 I get terrible transfer rates with the X-modem protocol. The problem is no other protocol seems to work. I have the libs archive for Term so I'm at a loss as to what else to try. Is there any way I can get…
I whinged about the lack of Z Modem, I got a nice polite reply, the practical upshot of which was – 'Get lost' I did (on their advice) download the B+ XPR but it crashed my system, although I was using a rather old version of NComm (1.921) even so,…
Rafael, They don't delete it because some older term programs and some of the simpler ones simply don't offer anything except XModem. I had one on my newest computer that had only the one protocol! And if you have only that one, it will still enable you to download something…

I just heard that going through companies like CServe and AOL is slower than going through a direct carrier like MCINet. Does anyone know if that's correct? Just so you'll know, my brother just went to an internet class for work where the instructor started a searches side-by-side by going…
>I now have a 28k CI$ node. Should I change my link speed? >It's at 38400 right now. I've got mine at 57600. No problems. I think it's limited by QuickB
Betty PMJI, but, why don't CIS just delete the xmodem protocol and add the zmodem protocol to their menus? Rafa from Berlin, thanks to AP1.80 >…olive oil is the way to go.
Thank you again. You gave me this info previously but I did not act on it yet due to the possible. I will do so tomorrow then try Comp.B to get the Autopilot download.
