There is no special adapter needed for the double speed drives. I think ANY SCSI bus-based adapter is MUCH faster than the double speed drives, so you don't need to worry.
Maybe one of your cables is at fault! Have you tried changing either or both the internal and external cables?
You can also get the Trantor SCSIworks! package, which will work with PowerSCSI and supports the CD50 Teac drive. It lists for $79, and includes support for HD's, HP ScanJets, Tape and more as well as the universal CD-ROM drivers.

Steve, I am not sure about your troubles, but you can download the latest version of MSCDEX from the Microsoft Software Library. GO MSL. I think the file you need is CDEXT.EXE, but you can scan for MSCDEX and it will tell you the file name to make sure. Good…
