David, >> But then about half the smokers are drinking Bud long-necks instead of fine ales, bitters and stouts, too! > I should think that this would be enough to get one exiled, eh?
#196650 3DS classic to MAX Message #196931
W, I concur with Kevin Krell. Your project should import to MAX, minus any IPAS routines. You wouldn't be taking advantage of many new features. The only product I know on NT is Lightwave. It's basically the same as the Amiga version only ported to NT – it should take…

#196384 Nov. Users Group Mtg. Message #196438
Bob, thanks for the directions. I'll file them away for future use. It wasn't either subject that piqued my interest, it was the fact that I finally had some free time. Only problem is I usually stay up most of the night on Friday's (4am last night) and desiring a…
Bob, please e-mail directions or an address. I may show up tomorrow – if I can get up that early and you send directions. Why don't you publicly announce the meetings up here, anyway?
#196365 #True Reflections Message #196382
Greg, Lightscape sounds interesting. I'll have to ask Adesk for a demo reel or samples. Are there any Lightscape images on Ci$ that you know of?

Eron, 1) What motherboard are you using? (Give model, part number or any other form of positive ID) MF: ASUS PCI/EISA 90/100 dual cpu. Don't have model # handy. 2) Was it easy to get it working with the Perception Video Recorder? MF: Not bad. Using the last PCI slot…

Eron, >> Does the Discus output files to the SGI file format? If so, then couldn't you do your capturing on the SGI
#196025 #PVR USERS? Message #196311
Mike, I've had a PVR and capture board combo since July. Took a bit of getting used to, software wise, after the PAR. Now I'm fine with it. System: ASUS P54 EISA/PCI, no risers necessary, but no room for a sound card with all slots full. Diamond Stealth 64 4mb…

#195715 #Benchmark standard Message #195782
Steve, I think the benchmark chevy.3ds we have is fine – except resolution. These parameters were established long ago by the tech support guys at Adesk. To avoid problems with display cards it has always been said that the "no display" button should be active (same effect as rendering to…

#195630 Star Wars Message #195702
Brad, you could create geometry in 3ds and render it moving past a camera (or camera moving backwards over it). Use depth-cue or fog, or lighting to have the text disappear into the distance. If you use fog and turn off "fog background" then you can render the text against…

hi again Message #194839
Amit, my Internet e-mail address is: foster@metrolight.com we use everything. We have 15 Pentium 100's and also use 20+ SGI's for rendering with the 3ds SGI renderer. Each SGI is close to 2x faster than our Pentium's, and much better when paging to disk. I personally just use 3ds4, but…

Laurent, see my reply to Andrew Paquette.
#194678 #Alias/Wavefront Message #194832
Andrew, we take Alias files into Wavefront and save out an .obj file. We then use a utility called obj2asc which converts the obj to a 3ds ascii file. No UV co-ords unfortunately but it was free on the Internet I think.
Colin, >> I'd love to hear of your adventures with version 1.0 when it arrives
