>> THAT'S "SCHREIBER"! Ah, Sorry John! I was going by the "i before e, except after c" rule. Though I forgot about the addendum to it stating "except after c or schr". -GreG

John, Thanks, we figured out that it was Schrieber's Imagine line of IPAS routines. I've seen some of their plug-ins, or rather the results of them, and they are very, very cool. -GreG
John, Also, please note my user id above (74774,232). The one you used before (75300,1641) is no longer active. Wouldn't want any mail getting mis-directed. -GreG
John, I don't have a concrete date as to when 3.3 will ship. Impulse really went at the attributes/texture/brush requestors in terms of usability and functionality. I spoke with Impulse today, and it is being finalized. In fact, a feature (not yet announced) has been moved up for the 4.0…
Darin, Ok, I knew where you were going once I read you modelled a light. A light source is defined by the axis of an object itself. In the case of a sphere with the axis at the center, the light is emitted by the axis. Knowing this, lets take…
>> I think I'm going to do a complete re install of Imagine (should have thought of this before) before I post any messages to Mike.
>> Is there some information on the differences between the full version and the lite version available?
Sam, You should be be able to select all (shift-a) and scale the scene down within the stage editor. By all, that includes the camera and lights. This will keep all relative positions intact. Of course, you must update the SIZE bar for the objects for it to take effect.…
Sam, I haven't the foggiest. I haven't heard of this type of behavior from anyone else either here in CIS or on the Imagine Mailing List. Don't know what to tell you. Leave a message for Mike over in ANVENA, not AmigaVen. He'll never see it in AmigaVen. -GreG
Michael, The world octree size error means that your scene is too large, that is, the area it's occupying has exceeded Imagine's world. The way to resolve this is to scale down the scene. Forgive me, but I don't recall Imagine's world coordinate limits. If you try to create objects…
>> Is all this going to be available from the Stage Editor as well as the Detail Editor? It sounds terrific.
>> Do you have any idea what the pricing will be for the Windows version? Brett, See my reply to Bob in message number 12686 -GreG
John, Thanks for the info. Now that you mentioned it, I've seen mention of those in the 3DS forum. -GreG
Bob, I don't believe Impulse has settled on any pricing for the Windows version, it's really premature to do so. I have heard a few thoughts on the subject, but nothing concrete. What I have heard though so far, should make upgrading from IM4.0 affordable. -GreG
>> Do you get New Media magazine? Steve, I don't get New Media, so I haven't seen the article. >> I thought you did….now, on page 80 of May 95 issue there's a blurb about Imagine's FX. It is in the second column at the end of the Explode Volume…
Steven, From what I understand, it will be available for NT, 95, Win3.x w/Win32s. This will also allow you to run it in OS/2 through it's Win32s capabilities. -GreG
Michael, Apex's number is 415-322-7532 -GreG
>> I prefer Windows as my operating environment and would like to know more about the up and coming Windows version of Imagine.
David, I just tried the object following the path in 3.2, and yep…it doesn't start at the beginning og the path. It starts at the next interpolated position. For now, if you still want to use 3.2, you can use this workaround: For example purposes I'll use a 30 frame…
Hi Don, Welcome to CIS, and the Graphics User Group forum. Now, lets try and see what's going on with bones. >> The problem occures when I try to connect the second boned object (ie finger) to the base of the hand.
Ted, Make the "V" section of the "Y" first, then make the stem of it as a seperate object. If you don't need to have a seemless object, then just position the two objects to form the shape of the "Y". If you want it seemless, then slice the two…
Ted, Not possible to make a "Y" path using one path. What is it that you are tyring to do? Perhaps we can give you an alternative method. -GreG
Bob, That's great! At 130k the file is accessible to more people. I personally don't mind the larger file sizes, but the connect time can dissuade many people from taking a look. I just want everyone to be able to view everything that is uploaded! -GreG
>> Do you have any ideas of when Imagine for windoze may become available. I would really like to stay in one environment. Life would be so much easier:).
Bob, Oh, you didn't model the amrs? Ok….then they suck! Seriously, they still look great. As for the image size, just use a higher level of JPEG compression. No need to re-render it. If you upload the file with the same name, the original will get overwritten. So need need…
#More info on 3.3
Message #12499
Just some additional info on what's being done to IM 3.3 First, the Attributes Requestor, Brush Requestor, and Texture Requestor's will be unrecognizeable. Brush Requestor: -View brush -Specular mapping -Hardness mapping -Brightness mapping -Ability to set transparency of brushes to create depth by layering multiple brushes -Ability to quickrender from…
Robert, Great looking robotic arms in DVSGOL.JPG! I would love to make the file accessible to as many people who may want to view it, but the file size may scare many away. Think you can re-Jpeg the original to a size somewhere around 200-250K without much image loss? I…
Douglas, If the object wasn't created as a contiguous skin, you can still use bones on it. You may just get ugly results where there are breaks in the skin, depending on your subgroup definitions. If you want to e-mail me the object you're having a problem with, I can…
David, Once you got the object modelled, give us a look. With all the discussion I'm really curious as what this thing looks like! >> How much does this Web page cost you a month? Can you see who has logged in? I was made an offer I couldn't refuse.…
>> How do I get the caustic lighting to act like the squiggles on the ground? I would think that you make a transparent (filtered) surface and project lights through it? Or does the caustic lighting provide for this so that the surface of the water is not needed?
Shane, If you are still having difficulty getting the effect, e-mail me the grouped objects as you have them. It may be something trivial. But, to go over it again, and a few more tips on how I make the light rays and the "light-source" For the text shaped light…
>> This works alright (sorta) for a from-the-side view (looking down from about 45 degrees) but I'd like to have it head on – and when I try it that way, some fog-related bugs make themselves known (canceling each other, etc). ps. Cool web page! Thanks. BTW, the cracked egg…
>> as you can see(kinda )) I have boned and assigned subgroups for each bone. Douglas, The ascii art kinda got messed up, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at. >> Create bones, Group bones, create and assign big and small subgroups. Move bone and update…????
>> there was a thread about mapping…never mind, I'll start a new thread later. Phewww! Bless you.
>> Anyone hear anything about Steve Worely's textures that are supposed to be coming out for Imagine?
>> Real quick – How do you Copy and Paste FX in Action Editor. I would like to copy the FX which resides in FX1, at different points (frame groups) down the line throughout the duration of the animation so that the ball will BOING "on command".
>> What is "Caustic Lighting"? I liked your Coke picture. Was the green "electricity" post image processing?
>> Of course it could be the program handles memory so well that it is detecting a small memory problem that might go unnoticed by all the other programs.
>> thanks! duplicating the edge is exactly what I'm doing right now. I thought there is an easy, automatic way. > BTW, saw your www page. Looks nice! Thanks, it still has a ways to go. Need to add more to it than just my images. -GreG
Joe, When the files are public I'll take a look. If anything, as you describe them they might be good for reflection maps for metals. -GreG
>> Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to change the pixel and image resolution, not the image height and image length. I have an Epson Stylus Color and I would like to get a better pixel resolution than 360.
>> How would I go about that? Sam, I'd access the PC File Finder and search for memory diagnostic tools. One of your chips may be flaky. Actually, dos your BIOS offer a built in memory diagnostic? It may, I believe the AMI BIOS does. -GreG
Joe, If you upload them Friday, they'll be processed on Monday. As for them being "off the wall-ish", so what! You never know when you'll need a certain look. -GreG
>> Now one last question….what's a manual? (G) Bill, I dunno, I never needed no steenkeeng manuel. Hey! Manuel, come here, you steenk! Ok, now that that's out of my system. I'm referring to the 352 page reference manual for Im3.0, which admitedly is lacking. Hopefully this manual will be…
Sam, Don't know what could be causing the problems you are experiencing..especially after rebooting and running Imagine without loading anything else. First thing I would do is try a cold boot….that is, turn machine off, then on again. I have at times, few as they were had software (especially windows…
>> BTW, I don't know if anyone else uses Blob, but I think it's a really terrific little program!
>> All this is not impossible to do. I used slice a lot and it worked, but edges are too hard. The real problem is: All edges have to be slightly rounded and manually adding faces to make the edge rounded is just too much work.
David, It's always almost necessary to manually optimize a sliced area before performing another slice in Imagine. Otherwise, as you noted, SLICE will hiccup. >> Maybe we can convince Mike to add this feature ("enhanced merge") in one of the next versions, since it helps a lot.
>> Wow, That was a speedy reply! We aims ta please Christine! I just wish I could be of more help with Win95. Guess I should make space on my HD for it eh? What the heck, I can scrape up 20-30 megs right? -GreG
Stephen, Again, thanks for the tutorial. It really got my mind working in trying to recreate that exact look using textures and states. In the process, new ideas for various different looks developed. >> Also would be happy to se how you would create a Solar System in Imagine. Well,…
