#CDK 2 vs 3ds Max Message #187630
Since both CDK and Max are C++ extensible, I wonder what is the real difference between these two packages? Mei-Tien

#Slow Paintbrush in AS Message #173577

Solid Modeling in CDK? Message #171959
As I review the CDK brochure, it mentions solid modeling and AutoCad a few places. It even has a built in solid modeling package…, I wonder if it is ACIS, just like AutoCAD? I am curious as to the importance of solid modeling and autoCAD to virtual reality simulation? Is…
#AniStudio Locked up Message #171647
Sometimes, animation studio simply locked up. Nothing works. I have to reset the system. It did not give out any warnings. Once it happened when I tried to play a script with four movies. I already reduced the color resolution to 256 to save memory. Please help. Mei-Tien
I ran into MMTASK GPF AASC.DRV at 0001:0282 in animation studio 1.0 for windows. Why? After I set the color to 16 M in Paradise, the screen showed up some strips although the program seem to work. I have 16 M RAM 486. Thanks. Mei-Tien

#163410 Windows 95 and 3DS4 Message #163973
That is a good news. I also have win95 at hand, but likes to know if most or all my window or dos software will run. Have you tried other graphic tools and games? Such as Director, Elastic reality, Fractla design painter?
Barbara, Thanks for the reply. Mei-Tien
What a fast response. Thanks a lot!! Mei-Tien
I just subscribed Planet Studio via their promotional mail. It should come with a CDROM of textures. I received the magazine but did not see the CD. I could not find telephone number or email address from the magazine(?). So I post it here and hope to get a response…

Mike, Well, I also wish to eliminate the AniPro for the animated texture map. I did download the project file and found the script was empty. Anyway, it is worth trying for new ways. Mei-Tien

> Sounds good. I know C++, but I wonder about the speed when the globe spinning in CDK2 in windows? Does the runtime run under window 3.1 32s? I wish to get an API manual for CDK2 for evaluation. Do Autodesk allow evaluation and 30 day return? Mei-Tien
#157544 preview make stopped? Message #157956
I think I have around 50 MB available then. I did not try to create a flic , I was doing a preview. Mei-Tien
Jonas, Thanks for the reply. I finally got Inside 3DS R4 and found it quite nice. > idle, I think. I did ESC and came back to 3DS in DOS. I don't think so. I checked statistics and found no swapping files. Not yet. Wonder if this is a RAM…
#preview make stopped? Message #156929
I made a preview for 1000 frames, it took quite a while, when I came back to the PC, found it was showing one scene and not moving at all. What would cause it? I have made a preview for this with 300 frames successfully. Thanks. Mei-Tien
Jonas, I have similar problems with WTK only with certain TGA files. I have a sony CDROM, never seen this problem with any of my other CDROMs. Since I got my 3DS from a forum member, he got it from a dealer, can I get a replacement from Autodesk? I…

Jonas, Thanks a lot, I find it. I guess there are still a lot of features of 3DS that I have not mastered yet, amazing.
#155265 #motion template? Message #155416
I thought the "file insert" is to add animtion to another animation like the bird walk example in the tutorial. Are you saying there is a way just to import a .3ds file with different objects but using the same names to achieve what I was looking for? Worth looking…

Jonas, That is great! I will look it up. Thanks. Mei-Tien
#motion template? Message #155244
Is there a way in 3dsr4 to apply different objects for the same motion setup without recreating the animation( motion) again for similar objects? Say change a man walking to a woman walking? I don't know what is the best approach to this, or if it possible without possibly scripting?

It will be very helpful if ER support some kind of Lasso command( or magic wand) which defines the outline of a picture precisely for us, then we can modify it for the shape that we need. Will this be in ER someday soon? Mei-Tien

Martin, Have you seen Inside 3DS R4? I browsed it in the bookstore yesterday and found it rather limited in its discussion of the R4 features. Sounds Nancy's R4 book is a better choice. Correct? Mei-Tien
#152045 #AP 1.3 tween feature Message #152204
Dave, Allright, I think I know what you mean now. Tweening is not good for character animation, period. Every frame is best traced and/or modified with the help of onion skin. 3DS does have some benefits except these cartoon look animations. Mei-Tien

From: Mei-Tien Hsing Animation Vendor A Forum · Elastic Reality February 10, 1995 10:39 AM
Jason, An example of cartoon style tweening done in ER windows was what I was trying to find. Anything available? I saw examples of face morphs etc, not cartoons. Thanks again. Mei-Tien
#151727 #AP 1.3 tween feature Message #152038
Dave, I thought I understood, now I don't quite know if I really know. Anyway, it does not sound encouraging to use AP 1.3 tweening for character animation. Thanks again. Mei-Tien
#151726 AP 1.3 tween feature Message #152037
Nik, Interesting. it sounds like it is similar to elastic reality, the only benefit I can think of is that I do not need to retrace the figures. Thanks. Mei-Tien
I saw there is a message in my mailbox for this forum, but CompuServe "could not get this message". Somehow I lost the message and could not get it from the threads either. Wonder if there is a cure. I was hoping to get some ideas from my previous posted…

#151493 #AP 1.3 tween feature Message #151669
Dave, Thanks a lot for your explanation. I used 3DS a bit, but I found it is useful to have 2D in some cases. However, I am interested in minimizing the work required for inbetweens in 2D. I noticed there are people using 3DS for 2D animations, and wonder why?…
